My cats bring me dead mice and pigeons. Sometimes they bring fishbones they gather from neighbours :)

Innacurate. Those are gifts. You feed them, so they know you're not a crappy cat.

Exactly. They depend on us for food, they know we are the masters of food. This is just faulty logic. My cat brings me live mice, so I can have fun too. It's just a gesture of friendship.

Another way to look at it is that cats are colony animals, and they share food within the colony. If they have food, and they're not starving so much that they need it all themselves, they'll share it with their colony mates, which you are. So it's not that you're a crappy cat so much as a cat that is off doing their own thing. And if you feed them, you're clearly doing your part, too, so it's just fair.

No they don't... They bring stuff to trade for the yummy stuff in the can they can't open. My white fluff ball prefers rats almost as big as her. I think she want me to make a coat of rat skins. Somehow she only leaves the empty skins on the doorstep. What I don't understand is how a solid white cat sneaks up on all these huge rats.

Wrong: they see us eating all the time, they know we can "hunt". It's a present out of friendship, an amazingly complex social behaviour

There's a stray cat in our neighborhood that considers my porch his home. I feed him with scraps and sometimes dry food my kitten refuses to eat. He brought me a dead mice once. So sweet.

Because we asked the cats, and they told us...? Truthfully, we can only infer that this is the reason...there is no way to know, with absolute certainty.

Scientific tests also showed that they stress out when separated. They believe that by reducing the stress they will raise their milk yield. But considering cows are herd animals, this isn't really surprising.

Many prisons in the US have a program that has select inmates train shelter dogs, some for specific tasks such as disability service dogs. Marked improvement in inmate behavior and outlook have been noted in these programs and, of course, it improves the lives of the dogs involved.

Greyhounds As Pets NSW have a similar program at a women's correctional facility here in Sydney. The inmates help prepare ex-racing greys for life as a pet, teaching them things like how to go up & down stairs, basic obedience, etc. It's great for the dogs, as well as the inmates who can even earn a government-recognised certificate. (Our foster grey participated in this!) :)
