Frat boys have gained a certain reputation over the years, and it’s safe to say that it isn’t exactly a positive one. Alcohol-soaked parties, hazing, gang-rape… These are the kind of things that the frat boy image sadly conjures up for many people these days, often excused by the pathetic explanation of: “Boys will be boys.”

Still, fraternities and sororities are an essential part of college life in America, and come with their fair share of advantages; building friendships for life, fostering a community spirit and having a whole lot of fun in the process!
This Tumblr thread is about the nicer side of frat boy life, and a reminder that ‘boys will be boys’ isn’t always a bad thing.
Sometimes boys being boys is just a goofy innocence, full of enthusiasm for even the most mundane things. Being so easily entertained is a strangely endearing quality, who else could get so excited about some frozen jeans than a bunch of frat boys?
Beer makes you do weird things sometimes. I’ve woken up many a morning to various ‘trophies’ collected triumphantly the night before, from the classic traffic cone to a large Finnish flag (I was in Greece at the time). These guys obviously thought that this particular snowball was their night’s prize, and must be returned to base immediately for approval from their peers.
It’s not all goofy, drunken antics though. This story, presumably written by an English major, shows that frat boys can sometimes put their naive enthusiasm to genuinely good causes, and save the day for people in need. This girl puked and passed out after a frat house party (all pretty standard so far), and had to go back next day for her keys. What happened next might just restore your faith in frat boys. Scroll down below to check it out for yourself, and let us know what you think in the comments!
This is my favorite thing. I hope the next generation teaches their boys to help girls instead of belittling them (and vice versa).
All generations of decent men know that. Sorry you've made such bad male choices.

Well, in America we only hear stories about frat boys being rapists and stuff. It's probably normal behavior for frat members to be nice, it's just that we never hear about it.

The gpa at our the uni I work for would shoot up if they just shut the shitheads down. Entitled passel of morons.

This is cute and I love the story, but I and my friends experienced both the good and the bad of fraternity culture. It def. has the ability to do a lot of good, but there are bad apples that can sour a lot of people to it. I don't judge based on being frat members, but I also have seen a lot of the bad this culture can do. Just watch out for those people who can be vulnerable in these situations and speak up when you see something gross. Otherwise have fun and enjoy your frat! :)

With stories about bad experiences being so rampant, and the a*****e kinds if men being so loud, we need a good story like this one, just so we don't let the bad overshadow the good. Right now it feels normal for you, and that's great! But, see, I believe the good in people, even if it's the smallest thing, should never be taken for granted. These things should be taken with gratitude, and receive an occasional praise. Because not everyone is willing to step out of their own comfort zone to reach out and help with a little-big problem of a stranger. It's just kindness.

Overweight and low self-esteem I was struggling, and some guys constantly bullying me in the halls had no idea who they were. He indicated I should play along so I did.... He walked with me to the food Hall and invited me to sit with his friends (all black BTW) for the rest of the year this group of frat boys and their friends (girls) included were my group of friends. Markell really helped me and became one of my closest friends for the next two years. One day I was asked why I sat with all those "n******" and not "my own kind" I said get are my kind, human, not to mention I don't see you asking me to sit with you." And I continued to my friends.. the only white girl at the table. So yeah frat boys will be frat boys.
I love this! Frat parties can be quite large drunken events, but for the most part..most frat boys are decent people. They, like all other victims of media, get a bad rap from a few isolated incidents of men that couldn't be bothered to behave like gentlemen.
I lived across from a frat house, and on the Friday of parents' weekend, when they all started drinking at dawn, I saw a guy open an upstairs window and pee out on the lawn, the BATHROOM window. Later, I saw them pee off their balcony in the backyard toward a toilet they had on the law.

During the LA Riots (yeah, I'm old) I was home alone since my housemates were hunkered down elsewhere and the phone lines were out. One of my housemates used the campus phone system to call the frat house a couple of houses away from our place and told them that I was home alone. Within three minutes three guys were on my porch with baseball bats telling me to pack a bag and that I was coming with them. We camped out on the balcony with a few other people that they had rescued and I was offered three different rides out of town to stay with guys' families who lived in San Diego. Thanks, SAE!
Why is nobody saying "girls will be girls and they leave their keys lying around and forget about them and make other people look for them"? Stop this gender generalization.
The bewildered looks of hungover young men at the hungover young woman appearing lin their disaster-zone, testosterone cave dwelling and invitations to love dog movies, too, is such a blast to the past. Never went to frat parties, but just parties. Sweet young men delighting in a hunt, a search and rescue, a quest, and triumphant, shambling off again for the next new moment in their new, almost-adult lives...
