Mechanized industrial production may produce MORE footwear than traditional handicraft shoemakers, but that doesn’t mean its products are better in quality. As this video by Turkish advertising agency .NESS shows, shoemakers are experts of attention to detail and craftsmanship, something that a lot of people still value. So even though most of today’s shoes come from big factories, there are still some cordwainers who aren’t afraid to get their fingers dirty. Have you owned a handmade pair of shoes?

I think this is a lost art. This was absolutely fascinating to watch! There are people who feet with defects . I've seen them when I floated to podiatry. These shoes would solve many of their problems & prevent some surgeries. John L., don't ever lose your artistic passion.
Actually, I have seen some shoes costumising shops in Korea. Not many, though, and not by hand. The ones that do it manually are the ones that fix your shoes, and I have seen a lot of these ones.

There's always room for highly talented people, who are good with their hands and brains. I make beautiful things for the interior design field, and I view my worka as a part of me. I treat everything as if it has my name on it, even though I don't advertise it. Its too bad that people like myself are growing smaller in numbers.
Custom made shoes are a dream. We tend to forget just how important our feet are to us as they carry is through very day keeping our skeletal system upright and in balance. When our shoes are cheap and don't provide proper support, our hips and pelvis are directly influenced. In Vigevano, Italy (known for making shoes in this manner) a custom pair of shoes may cost 200-300 Euros (less if you're a repeat customer with a form already made your foot), but it's like walking on air. They last forever, and can be resoled when the leather wears down. I have shoes made from flats to pumps, to high heals and would never buy ready-made again. Hats off to these wonderful artisans!
Nothing like custom made footware. I agree they are Heaven on one's feet.

All shoes are made by hand... But not the same hands, sadly, tiny fragile hands.
