The horrific mass shooting at a school in Parkland, Florida, has reignited protests for meaningful political action in the United States. According to Quinnipiac Poll, an independent, non-partisan public opinion poll, currently 66% of American voters support stricter gun laws, and it's the highest level ever measured. People are expressing their thoughts about these issues all over the internet, and some are resonating with the public so much, Bored Panda has decided to compile them into a list.

From brutally honest jokes to interesting insights, the entries below will certainly stir your thoughts about the uncomfortable debate American society needs to have. Scroll down to check them out, and upvote your favorites!

A kid should never have to worry about such a thing. Yet still, this is really happening. Heart-breaking. I think if I had a child and was in this situation, I couldn't hold up my brave parent face and would have broken down crying, that my baby is thinking about things like this. It even hurts me that a child I do not even know, is thinking about things like this.

Australians don't know whether to laugh or cry. We are horrified by what we are hearing. Since gun control was enacted back in the 1990s we have NOT HAD ONE MASS SHOOTING! Domestic shootings have crashed and now, pretty much the only people with illegal guns are the criminals who will get them no matter what we do. Only Australians legally allowed guns are defence force personnel (and not in public) police (in public) farmers (only on their farm) security guards (only on the armoured vehicle) commercial shooters (only in their trucks) sporting shooters (only at the gun club/rifle range). Police here check their gun owners in their own districts every two years and every single licensed gun has to be accounted for and the storage comply with regulations - gun and ammo separately kept.

Off course not. People who profit either directly or indirectly from having guns in the US want them to handle guns. And the ones that fooled by the marketing from those people. Seeing as the majority of people in general are stupid many people are probably in favor of guns. Either the ones making a profit of the ones that don't but are too stupid to see the disadvantages.

Quite funny that she's saying THAT is a problem and not guns in general. Just look at ALL the other countries where guns are forbidden and compare gun related deaths/wounded... enough said. But yeah let's continue to put the focus elsewhere! We need MORE guns! It's like saying when there has been a fire in a forest that we should put more stuff on fire there!

Here's my problem with this. You're asking an adult to kill a child, possibly even one they've taught or know personally. Who thinks it's a good idea to make them have to live with that for the rest of their lives? Also, there's gonna be running and screaming children everywhere, what if they accidentally hurt or kill the wrong one??? Its ridiculous.

59 is not elderly. Bifocals aren't a disability and having grandchildren doesn't necessarily mean a woman is feeble. There's not much common sense in the idea that armed teachers will do what politicians won't but that's no excuse for dismissing someone's value as a human being.

Like everyone HAS TO carry a gun. Like nobody is going to be trained if that happens. What about a simple damn metal detector - can protect banks, courts - anyplace with a crooked politician that probably deserves shooting and wherever "wealth" is piled - but don't do anything for kids. Put them in a "gun free zone" where 98% of all mass shootings now take place. That's a "brilliant" alternative. For the murderers and people behind this thing. (this exact scenario was CIA training prior to 1990. School shooting FOR THE PURPOSE of getting fools to beg to have their guns taken away - as criminals and police thugs keep theirs and further enslave your lemmings. It also explained a 9/11 scenario to "justify" attacking israel's enemies...)

Wearing bifocals, says nothing about her eyesight except the fact she can NOT see close up. It does not say she can't hit a target across the room from her to save that child, I did wear bifocals, had eye surgery, do not wear any longer. I wear reading glasses to see close up while reading. But, even before eye surgery this did nothing to prevent me from hitting a moving target across a room to save that child that would not have had a chance if I did not have a gun.

I retired at 70, and I absolutely not want to be armed, (although I sat by the door with the fire extinguisher in my lap for about 4 hours during a lockdown (not a drill) one day). I was there to teach children, not to shoot peopl

You're right. Perhaps a younger more physically able teacher in a nearby classroom. Do you think one out of every dozen teachers would be capable? Do you think that would help? I do.

So much ignorance coming from these posts. They're not just handing every teacher a gun. The teachers have to a) volunteer, and b) pass a training course with a 100% score that includes an active shooter scenario.

May clearly be the case if teachers can carry a gun. Can you imagine, the teacher with a gun lurking around the corner with gun drawn and a cop around another corner lurking with their gun drawn and they both jump out. You can imagine what will happen next.

A teacher in Utah shot herself in the bathroom by accident in 2014. You can watch Youtube videos of enraged teachers smashing instruments or throwing things at students. I don't trust anybody with a gun in such a tense situation -- even a teacher.

I know it can be unpopular. I’m from Brazil, where guns aren’t easily purchased as in USA. I’m against such an easy way to get your hands on powerful guns, but the problem is more deep rooted. The true problem is not the guns. The true problem is that a person have a killing will in his heart. Are we ignoring the fact that someone -wanted- to kill a lot of teenagers? Why? There is more than just guns wrong in United States. There is killings with knives and rocks too. We need to work on creating children that don’t want to kill others. A society that doesn’t let violence grow. Armed or not.

Better yet, send all those who so staunchly protect their 2nd amendment to Afghanistan. They can prove that having a gun betters your odds to staying alive against others with guns. Once I see how they fare, maybe I'll change my mind.
