As the USA experienced the 307th mass shooting in 311 days on November 7th, 2018, in Thousand Oaks the gun control law debate returned to the headlines. This time, the National Rifle Association (NRA) played a major role in them, too. And it has a lot to do with a tweet the organization released just hours before the tragedy in California.
“Someone should tell self-important anti-gun doctors to stay in their lane,” the NRA wrote. “Half of the articles in Annals of Internal Medicine are pushing for gun control. Most upsetting, however, the medical community seems to have consulted NO ONE but themselves.”
Immediately, outraged doctors from all over the country began responding, and some of them even included chilling real stories from their emergency rooms.
Dr Morris was one of the many health professionals who used Twitter to hit back at the NRA, joining others under the hashtag #ThisIsOurLane. “People need to see the reality of what we deal with. Too often, we get stuck on the same old philosophical arguments about gun violence,” Dr Morris told the BBC. He was deliberately vague about the details surrounding the photo he tweeted “because it is representative of countless times that this has happened to every other person who works in trauma and me.”
“We are anti-violence. Violence is the real problem; guns are simply a vector. What we hope for is the opportunity to study the problem and apply sound scientific methodology to making things better.”
Eventually, Ann Coulter tried to back up the NRA but people think her attempt fell on its face. Scroll down to check out a summary of this heated Twitter debate on gun licensing and laws and tell us your thoughts in the comments.
Recently, the NRA put out a tweet in an attempt to silence the doctors speaking out against gun violence

Somebody needs to pull Ann Coulter's head out of her own orifice.
The most common disease afflicting Republicans these days is cranial/rectal inversion.
AlphaPuck: When we stop hearing things like 'libertard' and 'snowflake' and 'obuma', then we can talk, until then, look in the mirror. BTW, This entire post is stats and empirical evidence.

@JP I think you need to look at the definition of empirical. This post is entirely personal experience based. Not 1 single stat in the original post.

Is name calling the only argument people like you have? How about stats and empirical evidence?
Too far in, I'm afraid.
Jo Choto, our current medical knowledge is not up to the level to pull a head that far up some ones own anus.
In theory, if pulling doesn't work, try pushing...
Ann fucking Coulter has her whole upper body up her orifice.
Lower body too (I know that this makes no anatomical sense. Just go with it)
lol you just made my day
The American obsession with firearms is totally unfathomable to the rest of the world.
Too true Elizabeth
I was in London in 2016 and no one asked me about Trump (they DO have Boris Johnson after all) but everyone wanted to know about my country's obsession with guns. I was taught weapon safety by an NRA instructor back before they were just corporate lobbyists. I know how to use them (I earned an Expert badge with an M-16 in the Army) but I have no interest or need to own one.
absolutely gobsmacked.

Charity, faith, human spirit, innovation....these are also American obsessions and no, we don't care what the rest of the world thinks
Sorry GeeGee but these days the obsession seems to be anti-charity, pro-gun, flat earth, young earth, "intelligent design" instead of evolution and other batshit crazy nonsense
And thats the Problem In the UK we had on school showing. The whole country demanded gun control and it has never happened again thank God. Is there a single month in the USA when there isn't a school or some other mass shooting? Surely you should care about what American motherst of murdered 5 year olds think. Or does it take one of your family members to die first

So is our country! They don't have the gumption to do what we did to get this far.
Pro-gun, anti-vaxxers... Are they're trying to eliminate the human race?
@AlphaPuck That's the point- I will never have to pull a gun on anyone cos they are illegal here so they should be!!
You miss the point Troy Penny - guns are difficult to get hold of so the criminals just don't have them. Break ins, for example, are usually burglaries commited when the home owner is out. Guns give a false sense of safety to the criminal in this scenario making them take more risks that tend to be bad for the home owner.
what?

Because criminals always obey the law!
Sounds like a good idea to me! The human race has done more damage to this world and other species than any other factor - except perhaps astroid collisions...

@Paul K. Johnson Yes the FBI report is based on civilians pulling a firearm in order to stop anything from a simple assault and up. You dont have to kill to stop. That is something that every gun owner knows good and well. Pulling a gun on a criminal will stop them from a crime most times. So when you say "a good guy with a gun killed a bad guy with a gun", that is a small fraction of what the FBI reports.
Right... because you count all those times someone pulled a gun unnecessarily. Funny how I've stopped all kinds of situations from escalating - including a home invasion - without ever drawing a gun. Yeah, those numbers are bullshit. Look at every other country on the planet that doesn't have gun ownership like the USA and somehow they get through it all without everyone pulling guns on each other.
Pulling a gun on a bad guy will rather more often result in the good guy getting shot. Would be sure more good guys get shot than bad guys. Period

Until one of you have actually had to pull a gun in defense, I would suggest not trying to tell me how I should have handled my situation. I drew my weapon and the threat on my life was immediately stopped because people like me who know how to assess situations know when its the right time to draw, and when its not. You don't get to tell me how to handle my 2nd amendment right. Just like I am not here telling you cannot speak with your 1st amendment right. You can not like my opinion, but you can respect it, much like what I do to you

Pro gun people save up to 2.5M lives per year per the FBI and CDC. I think you are referring to criminals and anti-vaxxers.
And that's horseshit. I know you count all the people who the good guys kill in movies and tv shows but fictional saved lives don't count. One gun nut tried to show me how many times a good guy with a gun killed a bad guy with a gun. He found about ten cases spread out over six years. That's less than die in half a day from guns. By the way, we're talking about civilians with guns - not LEO and military.

@Paul K. Johnson. Not sure were your "gun nut" got his numbers, But we had that many cases here in NC alone...including an 11 year old girl that shot two intruders that kicked in the front door of her grandparents home. One of them died, the other spent a week in the hospital before he was transported to jail. We had a guy shoot another criminal that tried to carjack him, one that shot a man that was beating the crap out of a pregnant woman. One that was on drugs that was attacking anyone he came across. So on and so forth. Perhaps your "gun nut" found the ones that made national headlines...not the local good gun owner vs bad criminals. Do a little reading first before removing guns from law-abiding citizens.. https://www.forbes.com/sites/paulhsieh/2018/03/20/any-study-of-gun-violence-should-include-how-guns-save-lives/#643c9db45edc
