Great-Granny Has Accidentally Been Praying To Lord Of The Rings Character For Years

It’s said that everyone needs something to believe in, and in this case, a great-granny from Brazil has been praying to a Lord Of The Rings character figurine FOR YEARS, mistakenly believing it to be Saint Anthony.

The hilarious discovery was made after her relative, Gabriela Brandão, a freelance makeup artist from Florianópolis, took a look at her funny grandma’s figurine and noticed that something wasn’t quite right

Because it’s 2016, Gabriela used Google to find out whether she was wrong, and instead of finding “Saint Anthony,” she found LOTR character “Elrond.” Yes, Elrond from Lord Of The Rings. Elrond, the half-elven Lord of Rivendell.

Before the reveal was made to a confused great-granny, Gabriela uploaded these pictures to with the captions “My daughter’s great-grandmother prays to this figure of Saint Anthony every day, but looking more closely…”

Gabriela said: “We tried to explain right away, but she didn’t understand at first.”

You’ll be pleased to know that a proper figurine of Saint Anthony has replaced Elrond, and great-granny is praying away happily once again.

Unsurprisingly, this funny fail of an unsuspecting grandma was shared over 4,000 times.

When Gabriela came to visit her great-granny she noticed something weird about her statue

A quick Google search revealed that  instead of Saint Anthony she was praying to Elrond

“We tried to explain right away but she didn’t understand at first,” her great-granddaughter said

In her defence, the two of them do look alike and her prayers have probably been heard either way

"In her defense, the two of them do look alike and her prayers have probably been heard either way" Ha. Hahahahaha! She may as well keep praying to Elrond. It's just as effective as praying to anything else.

this is how praying to any piece of plastic/wood/stone ends. it may seem funny, but thinking about it deeper - it's not.

She may have been praying to the wrong figure, but her intent was the same, and Saint Anthony still heard.

Well, we were always taught as kids that even if it looks like that, we don't really pray to statues and crosses anyway, those are just representations that might help some people concentrate on their prayers.

Not so bad, especially considering that Elrond was not that far removed from having special powers of that sort. His mother (Elwing) was the the great-grandaughter of a decently powerful demi-goddess named Melian (who had a famous Girdle). His dad became constellation or something when he wanted to be (probably the northstar is the jewel on his brow). His great-grandfather once dueled Morgoth and wounded him seven times before finally being crushed. If you are going to pray to someone from LOTR, he might be your guy. WAY more relatable than Galadriel!

One of his other great grandfathers stole a Silmaril from Morgoth’s crown for Luthien’s hand in marriage.

No fear, the likelihood of having the prayers answered is just about the same...

4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness [of any thing] that [is] in heaven above, or that [is] in the earth beneath, or that [is] in the water under the earth: 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God [am] a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth [generation] of them that hate me; 6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. — Exodus 20:4-6 (KJV)

You know the Bible was written by men, right? It's not the actual word of God. That's why it's full of contradictions and full of very flawed thinking, like this bit from your quote: "for I the LORD thy God [am] a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth [generation] of them that hate me". That is not a God, that's a petty tyrant.

If all that praying was counted in our land should be filled with Elves & hobbitses now! Since it is not, may be praying is pointless! (This is a joke! Hold on to your panties!)

Elrond is just as good as any Christian saint to pray to. It's the thought that counts. Especially given that the Lord God has FORBIDDEN praying to any graven image at all!
