A memorable logo is one of the most crucial attributes of a successful business and Portuguese graphic designer Pedro Almeida started a personal series called “Power of Brands – Minimal Logos” just to prove it.
The 28-year-old artist strips down famous brands’ logos to basics and challenges you to try and recognize what major brand they stand for. You will be surprised how logos left with minimal shapes, outlines, and main colors are still very familiar. It goes to show how big of an impact visual communication and an effective logo have for a brand’s identity.
Can you recognize all the simplified logos? Which version do you like better? Let us know in the comments!
“My intention was to contribute to increasing the perception of the value of visual communication, with the hope of raising awareness of the importance of graphic design and the development of a visual identity,” the artist told Bored Panda.
“Simplicity is the key thinking to have a successful visual identity. Look at Apple products—they are all visually clean and minimal, they sell design. If design was not important, Apple devices would be cheap. Not only Apple—all successful brands have a visually simple approach to graphic design, because simple is beautiful. Your brain hates complexity. The more complex an image/graphic is, the more time and effort your brain needs to decode and deconstruct the visual noise to understand the image/graphic,” says Almeida, who has 5 years of experience of working for Portuguese design agencies as well as freelancing.
Almeida is focused on visual identity creation and is in love with research and the creative process. “Visual communication was one of the first ways of communication between humans. It all started with cave paintings approximately 40,000 years ago. I consider it to be a universal language, just like numbers. Thanks to graphics, you can recognize a country by its flag, drive safely thanks to road signs, find your way to the airport, and so on. That is why it shouldn't be underestimated.”
