87-Year-Old Grandma Uses Microsoft Paint In A Way That Would Probably Surprise Even Its Developers
Some grandmas spend their time in the garden, some knit, but 87-year-old Concha Garcia Zaera enjoys a hobby that’s rather unusually among her friends. She draws. Using only MS Paint. She discovered the program after her children gave her a computer, and she hasn’t looked back ever since.
“My husband fell ill and I had to take care of him, so I couldn’t go out very often,” Zaera told El Mundo. “I began painting little things: first, a house, the next day I’d add a mountain… Step by step, I was adding details, and in the end, the result was a very pretty thing.”
“I have no imagination at all, so I get inspiration from the postcards that my husband used to send me or drawings that I find and like.” According to Vanguardia, Zaera spends about two weeks on one piece and focuses intensely on the details.
Zaera used to post her masterpieces on Facebook, but one of her granddaughters suggested that she should use Instagram instead. On March 9, she had about 300 followers. As of this post, more than 108,000 people are following the humble artist. “I do not understand very well why my drawings draw so much attention, I think they are very simple things.”

"I have no imagination at all" ?! you've taken a basic, almost joke of a design package and created actual art, your stuff's incredible.
She says that because she needs to look at a reference picture. She has the talent but she can't just imagine a scene and draw it.

It remind me old school games, like "zak mckracken", "day of tentacle", "king quest"...
That's what I was thinking! XD Would't it be funny if they were actually drawn by old ladies using MS paint? :p
Load More Replies...Many years ago I bought a graphics tablet and I never learned to use it. It was difficult to look at screen and draw to the blank tablet. Of course there are now available graphics tablets that have screen, just like a digital paper, so those are much easier to use because you look at the same place where you draw.
Load More Replies...Reminds of old video games, but the ones with better graphics. This is all so lovely: the pictures, the grandma, her hobby... Everything about this post.
Now I'm even madder that the MS Paint is being...well in my opinion killed. :( Fascinating pictures, lady! Really impressive.
Pamela24 Paint is not completely dead - Microsoft just replaced it with Paint 3D (which also has tools to draw 2D art). There are also plenty of other free art software and mobile apps that often are much more versatile than Paint ever was. And if someone really just needs the original Paint there are probably many websites where you can download it even though it is no more available from the official Microsoft sites.

Those are incredible! I used to do a similar thing when I was a kid using a free art program on an Amiga A1200 and I would really focus in on each pixel. They weren't anywhere near as good as these though and i don't think i have the patience for it as an adult :O
finally! Eatsalot doesn't say something absolutely stupid!

Good hand- eye coordination! I can barely type. Lol

I think it's obvious she got so many followers haha. Noone uses paint for art so its unique and creates an interesting visual style. The drawings are actually pretty good. Perspective is off here and there but in general they are pretty good. Especially considering she's doing it with a mouse. Wich is like drawing with a brick.
Those are very beautiful painting. ... Microsoft should never take MS Paint away from the latest Windows. Look what can be done with it by a true talented person.
Granny You Have Proved That Talent And Hardwork Go Together. Great Job. You Are A "DIVA".
I tried that. Once! I lasted about fifteen minutes and had smudge. I was real proud of myself for not taking a hammer to my computer.
what do i think!!!! man it's amazing. outclass.. unbelievable !!!
"...no imagination..."? really? the pics are impressive. as for using postcards as reference source, that is perfectly reasonable in making art. i use reference images myself when i photoshop my cartoons. :-)
Google "Paint.Net" Paint.NET is free image and photo editing software for computers that run Windows. It will now work with layers
I'm inspired to get an Instagram account specifically to follow this grandma's art! AMAZING!
Talent for sure, but incredible patience. I've done one or two of this kind of stuff and it's painfully tedious.
This was truly something. It just goes to show that sometimes your talent comes from the most unexpected things.
I can't even draw a proper circle on MS Paint and it has a circle tool.
How fantastic to see people using imagination&showing us all the positive sides of life. Your talent is out now&I hope you continue to explore the possibilities
Absolutely charming. I've worked in photography and filmmaking all my professional life. I'd be proud of any of these. Keep up the good work.
The actual point of this article is much more important than the fact that the woman is old, and self-taught, and using a crude computer graphics program. The point is that it proves that true artistic talent can appear in the most unlikely people. This woman could create very attractive art even if she was using handfuls of colored rice, or kid's crayons. What I love about all this is that her talent was finally, and almost accidentally recognized.
Wow!! just Wow. How can such a talented lady say "I have no imagination". It would be hard for most people to draw anything using MS paint.
Ha, and I felt chuffed with myself when I drew a crappy anime girl when I was 7 years old...
I agree with her. That drawings are very simple and I have no idea why they draw so much attention.
She says she thinks they are very simple drawings. Um, no way, it's hard to do that in Paint!
Wow, these are amazing paintings! Microsoft should never take away MS Paint from the latest Windows. Look what it can achieve in the hands of incredibly talented person!
I wish I'd kept my rendering I did with paint bored at work back in the day. It was my Screensaver and showed the earth & moon with some caption. My boss didn't approve thinking I should constantly be selling even if I was more then capable and very dependable. Ingrate
Wow! All I can draw on MS Paint are shaky squiggly lines. This is amazing!
I can't draw a good cartoon wolf on MS paint and I find it easy to draw wolves. Mannn
Wow. These are amazing! If only I'd been able to use Paint like this in high school, 20 yrs ago, lol....
From my experience, most people who are good artists are very humble. People who understand anything about drawing and painting know that it's a matter of practice, time and patience, rather than talent, and that it really isn't anything special, just something they enjoy doing enough that they got good at it. And most don't think they're as good as people think they are.
