I Created An Art Series In Which Post-Punk, Goth And New Wave Bands Appear In Black And White Cult Film Classics (11 Pics)
I am Butcher Billy and I'm an illustrator and designer based in Curitiba, Brazil. I've worked with Netflix, Marvel, Black Mirror, Honda, Warner, Amazon Prime, Playboy, Stranger Things, New York Times, Universal Music and others.
This is the latest art series in my ongoing project with post-punk, goth and new wave bands from the late '70s/early '80s. This time I'm imagining a multiverse in which the protagonists of black and white cult film classics, from celebrated directors, are replaced with my favorite frontmen and women in music. Each piece will include seminal songs or lyrics that strangely may or may not have taken inspiration from those films.

Perfect! Many of their songs evoke such a noir-ish cowboy feeling in me. Especially The Killing Moon. Omg: I rewatched Donnie Darko at my friend's place last week. That song, at the very beginning of the film, has been replaced!! By INXS!!!! It doesn't fit AT ALL, and ruined the whole thing for me. What's worse, the subtitles are still playing the lyrics from TKM. I wonder if it was a copyright dispute? But why would EATBM (omg I never realized that their acronym basically says "eat poo"!! Hahaha!!! B.M. is shorthand for Bowel Movement) .Why would they want their song taken out of such a modern iconic movie!?! It introduced a whole new generation to their music! My friend is actually one of my best friend's daughters, so two generations: millenials and gen Z! If it was a case of copyright, it was probably the record company, or whomever bought the rights to that album if/when the original label folded. EATBM probably don't even own their masters from that time. Sigh.
