The perfectionists of the internet have pointed out how imperfect Google’s ‘G’ is and all hell has broken loose. Turns out, it’s not only the ‘G’ that’s a problem, even a bar in Chrome’s search box has imperfections. Although the logo was redesigned only 2 years ago, the internet is buzzing and people are questioning Google’s visual decisions, but there are actually very simple reasons behind them.
“The Google logo has always had a simple, friendly, and approachable style,” the company describes its identity. “We wanted to retain these qualities by combining the mathematical purity of geometric forms with the childlike simplicity of schoolbook letter printing.”
“The final logotype was tested exhaustively at various sizes and weights for maximum legibility in all the new digital contexts.” It is set in a custom sans-serif typeface and maintains the multi-colored playfulness, a reminder that Google always tries to stay unconventional.
This explanation, however, will never satisfy true geometric perfectionists. But what about you?

Google logo is triggering some perfectionists
So they started fixing it
But while people are questioning Google’s visual decisions
For example, the asymmetrical form of their logo

Its varying thickness

And other not-so-visible mistakes

When I see the Geometric and the Original logos, side by side, I still prefer the Original. Symmetry is not always the best solution.
Wow....I know Bored Panda is for bored people, but studying the google logo is a whole new art form of boredom
Not for logo designers. Regardless... asymmetry does not mean it's wrong. So I feel this is something rather silly to get all in arms about.
Load More Replies...When you look at the side by side comparison of the two the asymmetric one is just simply more visually pleasing. The symmetric one looks off. as a professional designer, I hate the symmetric one.
So what? Cant we make logo asymmetrical? It's an art not math. I like google logo the way it is than the so called perfect logo whenever i look at it, it's kinda bulky and heavy.
As a designer, sometimes absolute alignment is distracting and there needs to be a bit of unbalance for the object to blend in and not be too distracting to the overall design goal. Whoever complains about it not being symmetrical doesn't understand the different facets of design.
Designers actually know why the G is not geometrically simetric. Simmetry is not the answer when talking about letter design. This was proven with the Kabel font.
Wow. Design using an imperfect circle. Like almost every other logo. I won't be able to sleep at night.
I don't know what's worse - people who spend their time scrutinizing a logo, or that I just read an article about.
+ it. Add an edit function to comments, for f**k's sake.
Load More Replies...It is because a natural balance. See this as a human face. When both side would be exactly the same it would be ugly. The balance in this is a baser mostly upon feeling. That what all font designers use. The balance of what feels right. Instead of mathmatical rules of geometry. That's why nature and everything is imperfect. Perfect in it's imperfection.
That "meme" at the end just obliterated the remaining 3 brain cells I had left.
People really think the most valuable company in the world made a mistake in designing their logo? An instantly recognizable company logo? With the corrections it's obvious the original looks better. What a stupid story. Are they going to crack on the McDonald's "M" one of the top logos of all time next?
It's specific dimensions also makes it more likely that you will spot fake branding, because fakers will assume conventional symmetry. I think a lot of good logos have this element to their design.
So a handful of people who aren't designers or know anything about typography are having a hissy fit that the logo isn't symmetrical. Nothing to see here, next!
In typography, and in graphic design in general, the optical appearance is more important than perfect mathematics, or perfect geometry. It is not because a letter or a logo is perfectly built mathematically that its appearance (the way it is perceived by our eyes and our brain) is pleasant… It is obvious to me that who wrote this story about this Google "G" has absolutely no idea about graphic design, and probably about any kind of visual Art.
While I was reading, I imagined all the thousands of hours many many many people working for Google have spent anaylzing the new perfect logo (it has probably developed a whole new brand book as well because of the changes in angles for 3 degrees no one seems to have noticed) and feeling relieved I wasn't one of them. Maybe by at least making me read this c**p of article Bored Panda tries to make up to it.
The people wanting to "fix" this logo have no clue about the rules of typography. Visual truth is not mathematical truth. The writer of this article doesn't give the correct reasoning for the way things are, either. Typographic ignorance all around.
Who bloody cares?? Seriously if this all that's wrong in your life be grateful. And go and see a therapist about your obvious OCD problems.
I now feel more Superior, stupid, and ashamed. bored panda you used your "driving the internet crazy" quota up for the month.
People who have the time to do these types of worthless and pointless analyses are the same ones who complained Optimus Prime had a mouth in the 2007 movie. Get a dog ... and a job, preferably both.

this is quite a misleading explanation… the actual reason is optical aberrations we prefer to mathematical perfection more info here https://medium.muz.li/optical-effects-9fca82b4cd9a
Now what was this all about?? Is this really what people invest time and energy in??? Talking about losing focus...
Geometric Perfectionists sure have a lot of time on their hands
These are born by people's uncertainty and unsettled state when it comes to definition of "Good Work". Since simmetry has a mathematical definition, so it is TRUE, and probably can't argue on that but even if flower grows it's leafs out of ORDER, it never ends beautifully symetrically since there is always also reasons and circumstances for the tables to turn differently. Question I care about is why can't we do these things instinctively and assured and not to f*ckin worry about it.
Remember, this is the corporation that knows EVERYTHING about us, All of us. Do you think they give a damn what you think about their logo?
They better be talking about this in geometry class. Great application opportunity vs the droning abstract examples that won't engage as many kids
Finally! I'm not the only one who thinks that this should be fixed!! (It's the little things)
Try again. http://www.dictionary.com/browse/googol?s=t
