Goldfish Owner Makes A Cork ‘Wheelchair’ To Help His Sick Fish Swim Upright

In the most adorable animal wheelchair we’ve ever seen since the doggie wheelchairs and turtle wheels we shared earlier, an image has surfaced of a goldfish in an adorable sling, which people are calling a ‘goldfish wheelchair,’ designed to keep her afloat and upright.

‘Fish wheelchairs’ (or slings or buoys – call them what you will) like these are used to help fish swim upright while they recover from swim bladder infections that make it difficult for them to do so on their own. Green peas can help solve buoyancy issues related to constipation, but infected swim bladders or other issues may require specialized medication. Consult your vet!

Using a simple cork, this owner saved his fish’s life

There are professional veterinary versions, too!

There is a beast with heart of cold stone that dashes like lightning, shreds flesh from bone. // Bewitched by this beast, I fell to my knees. My mouth babbled madness and mumbled soft pleas. // I stared down the ravenous, gnashing dark maw of a cute cuddly kitten with yarn in its paw

I think it's wonderful that someone has thought to invent these things because fish are not always considered as even having feelings by some. And they are so easily disposed of & replaced, which is wrong. Phillip Larking the Poet had obviously considered the same thing when he wrote the following: Living toys are something novel, but it soon wears off somehow, Pass the shoebox, pass the shovel, Mam we're playing funerals now'. Sad but true :'(

i once had a fish i cried for. She was obviously sick a could not swim just like this one. The doctor said he dind know what the problem is and she was suffering like this for a long time. I was trying to find help everywhere a we did everything they told us but nothing helped. In the end she died. Now i am thinking what if she had the same problem (bladder infections) but noone helped us :(

We don't normally study fish in vet school, so you would have to go to a specialized doctor in fish... in the whole spain only one university teaches that, so I guess it's difficult to find...

It says above the goldfish with the clear & green tube "goldfish wheelchair" that it is a professional veterinary version but that device was designed and created by Einstein's (the fish) caring and dedicated owner. It looks professionally made as if it were purchased from a bet but if you read his story you will find out that the owner spent hours figuring out how to make something from recycled tubes.
