Artist Turns Stretch Marks Into Art In Order To Encourage People To Be Proud Of Them
Japanese art style called ‘Kintsugi’ is the craft of repairing broken pottery with a mixture of gold, silver or platinum lacquer and powder. Japanese philosophy treats rupture and its repair as a part of the object’s history and therefore should not be disguised or hidden, they are accented and celebrated as the most important parts of the story.
This is the idea behind the project by a Pakistani artist Sarah Shakeel who is conquering many web users with her unusual photos. The artist is transforming the stretch marks into works of art using digital collage techniques.
The artist is inspiring people to accept and be proud of their stories and encourages followers to send pictures of their stretch marks for her to turn them into art.

Share on FacebookBedazzled stretch marks! I’d need to have my cellulite dimples done as well 😂
I love it! But, instead of someone painting over my stretch marks in a picture, I want someone to paint my stretch marks for real. I wonder if I can get them tattooed in colour. I wonder if I should get them done in gold or blue, maybe I'll stop in at a tattoo shop that next time I'm out.
Unfortunately there is no metallic tattoo ink. Tattooing might be troublesome though as the flesh in stretch marks are more tender and fragile.

All of these pictures show how hard these women must have worked to attain such wonderful figures. As a man, I can wholeheartedly admin that the majority of men do not actually appreciate how much women put their bodies through. Childbirth would literally break a man down to his core in such a way, making recovery nearly impossible. Women kick a*s, think of this post as a testament to that. I absolutely loved this post.
Childbirth DOES break a woman down to her core... but the fact that we rise up and march on is the real beauty. Life is messy, we just have done an incredible job as women and society in covering up the mess.
Load More Replies...I like how all these women with “stretch marks” in the photos are thin or fit looking... if my body looked like that I’d share my stretch marks as well lol
So what do I do next? Paint my stretchies in bright gold, of course. People with stretch marks are kick-a*s!! <3
I got my stretch marks from having my beautiful son Eli. No regrets, all worth it.
What I want to know is why are there only thin people of one ethnicity showing off their “stretch marks” ? Not very diverse inclusion of every woman (or man) and their beautiful bodies.
Bedazzling stretch marks? Wow I am so proud of mine now ... not. This isn't art this is bollocks
Why is boredpanda so obsessed with putting sparkles or glitter on stretchmarks o.o Why not leave em be because literally almost everyone will have them eventually.
I think it is a post to celebrate bodies and all the bits that come with them. So many people are hung up about stretch marks. My daughter has just turned 14 and is obsessing about her stretch marks, she has an amazing figure and is a beautiful young lady, but kids her age only see the negative. I suppose when we live in a age where people follow and look up to celebrities who get something fixed they don't like then people may feel this way about themselves. We should all be empowering each other and accepting that these things are what makes us human. I have stretch marks as I have 3 children and I am proud to wear them with pride, where my mother sees them as a sign of weakness, that they appear on a person who is unfit lol. I think shut up woman, my kids left their mark and I am ok with that.

It reminds me of the art form called kintsugi. What is Kintsugi? There is something rather magical about the Japanese art form of Kintsugi and how it transforms something broken or in the traditional sense imperfect and makes it more beautiful and into a work of art of its own. Instead of hiding away the repairs so that the user or viewer cannot see them, Kintsugi celebrates them and makes them into the focal point. Kintsugi means quite literally ‘golden joinery’ or 'to patch with gold’.
sorry, what? Stretch marks? Sorry, I didn't see any...I was distracted...must.look.again... hmmmmm.....
So everything aesthetically unattractive is now just f*****g fabulous. I get the concept. Awesome. Can this fad end already before everybody goes completely brain dead? Asking for a friend.
Why should we be proud of stretch marks..? We shouldn't be ashamed...but proud...!?
Maybe proud is the wrong term, I think accepting would be a better term.
Load More Replies...I disagree, if someone was ashamed they'd cover it up completely like the entire thigh etc, covering just the mark, emphasises the stretch marks and draws more attention to them, thus showing you're proud of them.
