Meet Ava Morrison-Bell, the 11-year-old from the UK who has got some serious character – in a good way.
When asked at school what her teacher could do better, Ava courageously answered that collective punishment shouldn’t be used as it is not fair for the people who didn’t do anything. But that’s not all… She then backed up her statement with historical evidence, stating “under the 1949 Geneva Conventions it is a war crime”. Not too shabby for an 11-year-old, huh? Her dad tweeted a picture of Ava’s little note and it has gone viral since with over 380k likes and 116k retweets. Keep on scrolling to check it out!

When these teachers asked for feedback on what they could do better, they didn’t expect to get such a response from an 11-year-old
The girl’s dad was also surprised, so he shared her daughter’s note on Twittter
And the Internet loved it so much, people started suggesting how to reward her
Eventually, Ava’s dad caved in and rewarded her as promised

Share on Facebooki would see no reason to ground her whatsoever, as written above, she was asked for a feedback and she delivered. polite, smart and honest - nothing you should ever punish as a parent! good work.
Right, but if you think like that, then you'll never have an excuse to brag to the whole internet about how smart your daughter is!
Load More Replies...collectivism sometimes sucks...why don't teachers punish individually based on an individual's behavior instead
Is it me or is the handwriting in the reference to the Geneva Convention completely different?
Looks like she wrote the first part then went and looked up the Geneva convention part, hence the slight difference in the writing.
Load More Replies...She is wise beyond her years! Also her parents deserve credit for raising such an intelligent well-spoken child!
Smart kid doing the right thing; voicing out with sound reason and standing up for what she think is right. Way to go!!!
My teachers have always advocated the 'special desk in the corner' while I was going to school. Never heard of collective punishment.
My 6th grade teacher called said desk "Siberia."
Load More Replies...Well, for the techer or the father to learn her the difference between a collective punishment and a crime war. It's not the same, and one shouldn't encourage to do such a comparisons.
No offense, but I'm still trying to understand within which war these "war crimes" would have been committed.
Many times such punishment happened during second war :)
Load More Replies...The entire class gets punished for the action(s) of one or a few students.
Load More Replies...ground her? For giving an honest opinion ? I hope that was a joke.
Some people are a little too sensitive for mildly humourous comments about war crimes...
Load More Replies...It is a different handwriting at the end if the feedback, the letter 's' is written in different fonts in the starting and at the end of the feedback, and the space between the letters also varies. It is kind of a publicity stunt by THE DAD
Not sure the Geneva Convention reference is pertinent in this case as this is a peace time complaint.
A decade ago, I had a principal who punished all of the school teachers via collective punishment - she would send out a morning bulletin (random times, mind you), and apparently a couple of people weren't reading it (she knew of course because she asked for a return receipt). So as punishment she had us all meet in the morning in the staffroom so she could be certain everyone would get the message. First morning we meet at 8:30, she's not there. She's not there until dead on 9am, when she comes in the door and simply says "your kids are waiting, go and get them in". All I can say is, Val you were a S**T principal!
I used to work at an elderly highrise, and on the early morning of 09/11/2001, an elderly German woman came into the office and told me she had been married to a high ranking Nazi official. She said that while he was at Hitler's summer house, there were a group of 50 Greek POW's, and they were being marched across the compound. Eva Braun's car was getting ready to leave the property through the gate. When her car pulled up to the gate, one of the Greek POW's broke formation, ran up onto the running board, and spit on the window. A Nazi soldier who was guarding them open fired on the 49 POW's still in formation, and killed them all, leaving only the 1 alive. Then someone came into the office and told us that WTC had been hit with a plane. Weird day. This little girl knows her history, and collective punishment WILL only incur the wrath of many and create resentment. I can't believe it is being used in our school system.
This was written by two different people. The handwriting in the first half is completely different from the second half.
Teachers in our schools used this method such that the 'innocent' kids would rat out the 'criminal' kid..
An intelligent youngster. When I was eleven, I doubt I could have understood what a Geneva Convention is.
I agree .that punishment is stupid I had it at school when I did nothing
Rather than punishment of any kind, the teacher should use restorative practices. It resolves issues and builds community among teachers and students.
Good on her. It's strange that the father even considered punishment. And to add to this: A teachers' whole career consists of clear feedback and improvement.
