Woman Draws A Creepy Character That Keeps Appearing In Her Nightmares
We all have bad dreams from time to time, including nightmares. The latter usually feel more intense and vivid in comparison to merely bad dreams, while they also can make a person actually wake up and experience intense, nightmare-related feelings after waking. From a scientific point of view, a number of psychological triggers can cause nightmares, several of which being depression, anxiety, and PTSD, or simply a prolonged period of sadness.
However, when this young woman took to Twitter to share her recurring dream, the majority of people threw all the psychological explanations right out of the window. Purpah—a 24-year-old illustrator and character designer based in LA—shared that she keeps dreaming of the same character, who by no means appears friendly.

This young woman shared how she keeps seeing a bizarre and terrifying creature in her dreams

“There is a scary character that keeps appearing in my dreams who is AWARE that he is in my dream and says stuff like ‘Even when you wake up, I will still be here’ and honest to God I am terrified,” the woman starts off a now-viral thread with over 80k likes. “I want to draw this creepy monster but at the same time giving him form seems like a bad idea,” she continues. “I’ve written down every dream he’s been in and saved them so I have a record of all the [crap] he has pulled,” the woman carries on in the next tweet. When someone prompts her to draw the horror character, she promises to do so and piques her followers’ interest by saying that “he looks nothing like what you would expect.”
She’s written down every dream where the character was involved

After the Twitter thread gained attention, some people suggested drawing him

And the illustrator promised she will

And soon shared the drawings

The creepy drawings posted by Purpah show a creature with long, wavy hair, big ears peeking from the sides of his head, and a face that looks like part lamb and part wolf. “My dreams seem to have a French Renaissance look to them when he is there,” Purpah writes. The Rennaissance style clearly shows in the character’s attire as he’s dressed up to the nines with a high hat and an old-school tuxedo. The dream character was also given a name—Somnus.
Someone suggested drawing the dream character in a funny way

But the dreamer didn’t find the idea amusing

And there were those who said that maybe the creature is a good guy

But Purpah was convinced that he wasn’t

The dreamer goes on to illustrate why the dream character isn’t a good guy: “The first time he showed up he lured me to a theater where he put on a life-sized puppet show using real people and put me in control of the levers to move them to try and prevent them from dying in all the booby traps he set up on stage.” Spooky stuff.
Here’s what other people thought

Some suggested that Purpah spray her bed with holy water, while some noted that recurring dreams might be caused by psychological issues. Nonetheless, the thread gained lots of attention from folks on Twitter, prompting some people to share their own dark drawings of characters from dreams as well.

Share on FacebookI am not a psychologist, nor do I play one on TV, but let me have a go at this. The character represents a real person, someone the artist knows (hence the statement "even when you're awake I'll still be there."), who is not the person she thinks he is. Subconsciously, she realizes this person is a user and manipulator and perhaps even dangerous (the puppet dream), but, perhaps due to emotional involvement, can't bring herself to face this consciously, so instead her subconscious suspicions manifest as the classic "wolf in sheep's clothing" in her dreams. How did I do? ;-)
Sounds plausible to me. You sure you're not a psychologist? ;)
Load More Replies...I think a book or pad with the dreams and him in them could help unlock unknown elements that when drawn could show a small pattern. Maybe an object shows up you don't realize in every dream but don't remember until you draw it out as detailed as you can. May seem stressful but this vision is leading you to something. Not violence. But maybe creating a saving device. Or an animal trauma you buried in your past. A person you trusted but wasn't true.
Drawing a character, giving it a name, drawing him in different poses...where I come from this is called a FurSona! No for real, if there would be something aware of being a dream and haunting my nights I would be scared too!
Somnus strikes me as a demon that would be on good terms with Alistor from Hazbin Hotel.
I keep having a dream that revolves around a certain one that I had. It was really vivid, and I remember all of it. I was kidnapped by a man who was wearing a white mask over a ski mask. I was thrown into a room and I had to pick the lock. I finally succeeded, and I ran through a long hallway that was slightly slanted upwards like a ramp. When I came through the other side, I was in my own house. Everything seemed normal, except everything was darker and there wasn't much of anything. I couldn't find my dogs either. I saw my mom in the kitchen, and I told her what I did. But then her eyes widened and she hid under the dining room table. I turned around, and there was the man. he was now covered in blood, as was his knife. He said, "Oh, there you are." and then he ran towards me. My mom screamed but couldn't help. The man plunged the knife deep into my shoulder and laughed. My vision was going crazy, fading in and out. The man kept stabbing me, laughing maniacally. Then I woke up.
I don't know what the dream meant, but I keep having dreams that revolve around it. Are there any dream interpreters out there?
Load More Replies...I think this is really creepy, and im not implying that she has mental health issues or anything, but i think she needs to find someone to help her. Possibly, she could actually know the person that shes dreaming about and just have put a creepier face and voice to it. I think that i her dreams her subconsciousness is hinting to her what may be happening. I fully agree with what John Baker said.
So I have this dream about every night. In the dream I'm Detective Pikachu and Beyonce is forcing me to marry her... The always throws me in a pool but when I try to yell at her I can't. We get married and she steals all my money and uses it to produce Isabelle (Animal Crossing) Chapstick. Chapstick that looks like Isabelle... I sorta see it as a nightmare in someways. The pool is really creepy and dark. Also I'm always in Scandinavia??? Idk it doesn't make sense. I just wanted to throw out my weird dream too.
what the? i always have dreams that threatens my life or that i am trapped sometimes i am in there and i know it is a dream, but i can't get out and scares me.
Load More Replies...Well I dream about this dude named George. I have never met a George in real life. I never actually see his face but he's like an ''extra'' in my dreams, like part of the ensemble. Overall a very boring person that for some weird reason is in my dreams all the time. But honestly it's funny.
he better not pull a freddy krueger i like demons and all but i would like to meet this particular entity
Well... Maybe it's just a hoax. Trying to be noticed as an illustrator?
I keep having a homeless person showing up at my dreams. She looks like the creepypasta Sally, but I never see her near a forest. Most dreams I take care of her, and last night I had a dream that i... married her? It's all confusing
Without knowing anything about Purpah, it's hard to understand what's going on in her dreams. It all depends on how old she is, what she likes to watch on TV, her favourite genres, her fears and phobias. Its not clear if she's into drugs or not, or if she's in an abusive relationship, or full of optimism but trusting the wrong people. The dream character is like a demon thing and they can put on many forms, depending on what the dreamer is afraid of. All I can get from this is that she's got anxiety or worries. She should also visit a doctor and check with a therapist who might help her with those bad dreams.
All i can think is that you have taken care of people in your life (the puppets that he made you prevent from dying in his traps). I also believe that this is a manifestation of some stress in your life. Maybe you are under a lot of pressure or are in charge of caring for a lot of people. Either way, very interesting! Please share more in the future!
I have recurring dreams, some that turn into nightmares. It causes even more stress. I take medication to prevent my nightmares from becoming truly horrid, but I still get recurring dreams.
WAIT WAIT THIS HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE. I drew a character as an attempt to try and get through some stuff, and it backfired- She became the one giving me the depressing thoughts. Just out of nowhere, I'm imagining her putting me down. I couldn't stop imagining the scenario until she was finished. eventually a friend suggested I draw an opposite of this character, and when I did, it stopped. Said character is one of my favorite creations nowadays. I don't know if I make sense lol.
He's handsome, and reminds of that damned bridge I keep seeing in my dreams.
Holy s**t I've seen him b4. Honest to God he looks so familiar. Yes I'e read this post 2 times now but now I'M SURE I've seen him before.
Lol ik its late now to post this but, I see the same thing in my dream. This weird character with long legs and a hoodie with white eyes always is in my dreams watching me from somewhere.
This should be a cartoon of some sort maybe with him being the antagonist?
Not near as interesting or creepy but I have a recurring dream about a couple. I dont know who they are but a very fun nurturing gay couple in their 50s. I know every room in their home, what street they live on, one of their nephews. I think about once a month I go visit them in my dreams. I wake up feeling like I spent time with friends.
He looks like something out of a Disney movie, actually.

Pray to Jesus Christ! It’s evil coming from the devil! Have you ever prayed? And your name said that you are possessed? My gosh girl come to Jesus and ask him to break the chains that the devil has upon you!!! In the name of Jesus I cast out this evil entity from my mind and spirit! In the name of Jesus free me! I believe you died for me on the cross to free me of this evilness! Get beneath me satan right now I command you in the name of Jesus! I am and always will be your child. I want to be born again and I know that is through you Jesus Christ. Amen. Repeat this over and over again and put your faith in Jesus!! I went through the same thing with evil things like yours in my dreams. I didn’t want to sleep anymore I was losing my mind! I’ve been a believer in Jesus but got lost into sin and it got so bad to where I was being attacked in my dreams so I lost sleep and felt so scared it was always hard to even breathe from the fear I had 24/7. (Read my 2nd post)
she has some serious brain damage... provoking the creature? it's just imagination you silly billy as if something would happen, geez, get some science education.
