This Girl And Her Dog Just Saved A Mom Goat With Her Baby, And It’s The Sweetest Thing You’ll See Today

Meet 11-year-old Hamdü Sena Bilgin and her dog Tomi, who just became heroes after saving a mother goat and her baby. The girl lives in a small village outside the city of Rize, in Turkey. Her family runs a small farm where they raise goats for their milk. Hamdü Sena, along with Tomi the dog who is always by her side, are goatherds – they protect and guide the animals. One day when she was herding the sheep on a snowy hillside far away from home, the girl found one of the animals in labor. Hamdü Sena was afraid that the goat and her baby would be too weak to make it back on their own, so she did something really clever.

“After the goat gave birth, I led the rest of the herd back to the farm,” Hamdü Sena told The Dodo. “Then I grabbed two backpacks from the house and went back to the goat and her baby with Tomi.” The girl took the mother goat on her back, and put the baby in Tomi’s backpack. They safely returned them home. The pictures were taken by the girl’s 15-year-old brother.

Hamdü Sena modestly commented: “The snow was so thick, I was exhausted,” she said . “But it was worth it.” The story went viral, with people all over the world praising the girl, saying she embodies love for the animals.

I'm from Turkey, born and raised.. Turkey has never been an easy country to live in, and I'm talking about more than 1000 years.. When people ask me, why I still have faith in Turkish people and the nation, I show them people like this. Thank you for making me proud and bringing tear to my eyes, Sena..

There is a resilience in people like this, because there has to be. It's a matter of survival that many people of privilege can't grasp. The hardest thing many american 11 year olds will have to do today is turn off the Xbox

So, it's all robots doing all the work in American rural settings? Many 11 yo's from everywhere around the world does similar stuff. It's the urban elite that doesn't. I'm Turkish, never had to herd anything. It's not about locality, it's about social class.

Only amazing people do amazing things. Saving anyone (human or not) is absolutely the best, wonderful, normal, humane, ethical thing to do. That's why I always wandered why our parents (otherwise great people) thought us to love some animals but eat, wear and use others like vegetables?????

I started out as a farm hand in my youth, lived in a rural area and getting up at 4:00 AM was our usual day. Animals to be fed and watered before heading off to school. I grew up in Hancock County, Indiana, USA.

Why does it say 'herding sheep' twice when there were no sheep? I think you mean herding goats!

This is how her family makes a living. Both of those goats are worth a substantial amount of money over the course of their lives. Even if the kid is male, he's for the table.
