The sphynx cat is a cat breed native to Canada and has the distinction of having no fur. In Blanco’s artwork, this cat plays the role of an optical illusion. The artist took quite an unusual approach and as his canvas, he chose an old gas tank. After the artist is done, the gas tank disappears and becomes an incredible 3D painting. As the final result, we see a giant, gray sphynx cat hiding in the grass and looking at a dog whose owner is trying to keep him away from the cat.

According to the artist, the sphynx cat was chosen on purpose: “I used this cat because it is my girlfriend’s cat. During this confinement period, I am inspired by what we have around us.” When asked how long it took for him to make this giant cat, he said: “I took about two and a half days to make this fresco.”

For this fresco, Blanco used a technique called anamorphosis. When asked how it works, he said: “It works from one point of view. You have to put yourself at that exact point to see the optical illusion, so I took some points so that it would work. I had to take a picture of the tank to see if it worked for the optical illusion. […] It’s quite complicated to explain.”

Blanco has been drawing since childhood and is a self-taught artist. Passionate about street art, he began his career by customizing T-shirts, sneakers, and caps and later on received many individual orders such as frescoes for children’s rooms, trompe-l’oeil in public places, etc. He has created artworks for hotels, various theaters, restaurants, and businesses.

I've seen some great artwork around London but Sphynx On An Old Gas Tank is probably the best I've ever seen.
Sphynx On An Old Gas Tank would be a great name for a band.
Load More Replies...Nice work! I wonder what the cat-tank looks like from a slightly different angle, maybe like a different glitch in reality.
Sphynx are not native to Canada silly. They originated there. Moose are native to Canada. Sphynx were bred.
Fabulous street art. I have developed a new appreciation for this talent...
