When you welcome a smol awoo into your home and heart, you don’t want to think about the day when it grows up and loses its puppy fat. But the day comes when your pupper grows into a dog. And keeps growing. And growing. And doesn’t stop. You check the Canine Instruction Manual that came with your pet and you finally realize—aha! You forgot it’s one of those giant dog breeds that make you think Clifford, the Big Red Dog might be real.

Bored Panda has collected photos of the biggest, most playful, floofiest, and young-at-heart dogs that you’d want to hug all day long and get lost in their fur, so scroll on down and give the bestest boys and girls a boop on the nose with an upvote. Is your soul yearning for some more giant dogs who don’t understand how big they are? Check out our previous big doggo posts about canines who forgot their size here, here, and here.

However, just because a dog is big, it doesn’t mean that it has to be obese (aka a chonky chonk). All jokes aside, if you want your family pet to live a long and happy life, it’s vital that you help it stay lean and avoid entering the ‘overweight zone’ which requires extra effort on your part. Bored Panda spoke about canine fitness and doggo diets with the UK’s leading vet charity, the PDSA. Read on for our full interview with them if you want to learn how to help your dog live a quality life.

Bonner, Newfoundland, Can Often Be Spotted In Our Rehabiliation Unit Encouraging Patients

Children's Hospital Los Angeles Report

The PDSA explained to Bored Panda that a dog’s food is “an essential part” of their fitness. So you can’t just focus only on getting lots of movement—you need to give dieting and nutrition some proper attention, too! Similarly, you can’t get just the diet right while ignoring the importance of exercise.

“Making sure they are fed on a complete diet which keeps them at their ideal weight is important to keep them fit and healthy. As a general rule, we tend to give our pets too much food which can lead to obesity and reduced activity levels,” a representative of the PDSA told Bored Panda.

Once A Lap Dog, Always A Lap Dog

Once A Lap Dog, Always A Lap Dog

vladgrinch Report

It’s better to err on the side of too little food than too much when we’re living in a society of overabundance, then. What’s more, you should do a bit of personal research to learn what the ideal weight for your dog breed is for its age. If in need, talk to a professional to get their take on what’s what.

Getting serious about health means putting in the time and energy to make your dog’s life better. And that means treating your pet’s health like you would your own if you’re all about fitness. So get your kitchen scales out!

“The best way to monitor your dog’s food intake is to weigh both them and their food. You can discuss your dog’s weight with your vet and check their body condition at home. Once you have a starting point and know what their target weight should be, start weighing and monitoring their food and treats to see how much they’re getting,” the PDSA said.

Just remember—you’ve got to take into account any leftovers of extras that you might be giving your dog. So no munching on cheeky treats in secret!

I have 2 cane corsos, both were rescued. One had his ears already cropped when I got him and the other has her super soft and floppy natural ears. I would never condone the cropping, but I will say my girls ears are constantly getting infections. I clean them weekly and they still need to have medicine inserted into the ear canal by the vet every couple months. However. My sweet boy with his cropped ears has never had one problem. While personally I wouldn't have the vet crop my dogs' ears, I do see both sides of the argument.

People who crop dog ears are f*****g disgusting. People need to stop treating their dogs like customizable accessories. Its inhumane and cruel, and it just shows the world that you're such a selfish and disgusting person that you would put your dog through that just for asthetics.

People who use the dogs for defense or fighting cut the ears down to keep them from being a good target for another dog. Less to grasp on. Same with Rottweilers docked tails, which started when they were war dogs. sad

Not necessarily....My parents had a Doberman when I was little and her ears and tail had been docked. My parents told me that Dobermans, and basically other bully breeds, are prone to severe ear infections and vet advised them to get her ears docked for this reason. The reason for the tail docking, if I remember correctly but I could be totally mistaken, wasn't for looks (this could also be isolated to my parents' reasoning for getting this done) it was bc they're very high-energy, hyper dogs...and since they're already so muscular, mix that with hyper...their tails are like weapons when they're running around. I was a baby when they got her, so they opted to have her tail docked bc they were thinking of my future safety for when I would start walking. She was very gentle, loving and protective over me...but my parents also had a german shepherd and a husky that she would run around with. But, as I said, my parents' reasonings could just have been isolated...the dogs were their babies

They were cut off to make him look a certain way because some humans are barbaric. The whole process is incredibly painful for the dog, too because it involves adhering the cut off ear to plastic so it heals in a certain shape. Then the plastic is removed, causing more pain. Outright animal abuse, which is why other countries have banned it.

I rescued my dog from a puppy mill in South Dakota, the place was shut down bc of how bad it’s conditions were and the dogs were sent across the US to find new homes. When we got her, her name is Bean btw, her tail was docked and she had scars on her legs from barbed wire. She is now prob about 16 years old and living out her last few month, with cancer may I add, with the most spunk I have ever seen her with.

First of all Cane Coros are known to getting ear infection. Having their ears cropped helps to reduce their ears of becoming infected. Now that the Cane Coros is recognized by the American Kennel Club. Cropped ears are considered the standard with the breed. Organizations such-as the AKC and Westminster kennel club. Should change the standard so breeds such-as the Cane Coros and other breeds. No longer need to have their ears and tails cropped.

THE RIGHT TO HAVE SOMEWHERE SAFE TO SLEEP, HAVE DECENT FOOD, TO NOT BEING FORCED TO BREED AND THE RIGHT TO NOT BE ABUSED IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM! l know it's what would happen in an ideal world etc, but we have to keep working at it! Okay everyone, I understand your side of the story and I understand your voices want to be heard but this has gotten out of hand. We can’t just call people disgusting because their dog’s ears are cropped, sometimes they are for medical reasons. We should all have enough common sense to realize what we’re doing is wrong, downvote me if you want but just remember it’s not always the owners fault.

Really everyone? We can’t just act like this is worse then fur farms or dog fighting. Downvote me if you want but there are pros about having a dogs ears up. For one, it’s not a painful process, they simply numb the dog and stitch the dogs ears up and make them where a cone for about 2 weeks. Normally ears are cropped due to style but can also be for health, ear cropping does prevent many ear problems. People often manipulate others to not cropping their dogs ears and shame them over doing so. I can see both sides of this argument and there are advantages and disadvantages on both sides, but I know people bring this up to cause drama in light hearted websites so please worry about the worse problems we have going on in our world then shaming a man with his dog’s ears cropped.

Allow me to explain: there is no dog in the world who was born with cropped ears. It is an inhumane process that is terribly painful for the dog, all because their owners didn't like the way their ears were shaped. Please learn from this information, and know that the dog WAS NOT born that way.
