This Maine Coon Cat Is So Big Many People Think That It’s A Dog At First Interview With Owner

It doesn’t take much effort for cats to win people’s hearts and go viral on the internet. Today, there are many pet videos or images all over the web. However, some animals end up standing out because of their peculiar and unique characteristics, as well as the creativity and care of their owners.
This is the case with a cat named Kefir who lives with its owner Yuliya Minina in Stary Oskol, Russia. It didn’t take too long for the cat to stick out because of its enormous size. The owner told Bored Panda that Kefir is 1 year and 9 months old now and weighs around 26.5 pounds. Even though the cat is huge already, Yuliya expects it to grow a bit more. “It’s normal for Maine Coons to keep growing up until they are 3 years old.”
“It’s funny how others react when they see the cat because it is huge. Many people think that it’s a dog at first.”

The owner shared that they got Kefir from a cattery. They loved that the cat’s fur was so beautiful and white. That’s where the name, which means dairy drink, came from. Kefir immediately refused to eat dry cat food and started being fed only meat and natural feed.

According to the owner, Yuliya, Kefir is a gentle cat and likes eating natural feed

Yuliya revealed that the only drawback to Kefir’s maintenance is the large amount of wool that the cat leaves around the house. However, it is treated like a true family member and always sits together with Yuliya and her family by the table when they’re dining.
Yuliya added that Kefir has developed a habit to jump on her at night when she sleeps. “He didn’t do that when he was smaller and it wouldn’t be that inconvenient, but now the cat became very big and heavy. It’s not that easy to sleep like that.”

“But in general, this is a super-smart cat. It weirdly can feel the general mood in the house. Kefir doesn’t meow, doesn’t yell, and doesn’t harm the furniture. A truly perfect cat.”
For those who might have doubts wether these are real photos of the cat, Yuliya assures that she didn’t use Photoshop.

When this kitty head boops you, you're going down ;o)
That thought makes me very happy
Me too! I love to boop kitties :P
Kefir also looks like they have a massive attitude...which makes me love them even more
"Cattitude" :)
Maine coons are the sweetest, cuddliest cats
I've heard the Maine C**n has a very dog-like personality (outgoing, walks with its owner, plays games, etc.). Is that true?
Yes. I had one when I lived in Florida. He didn't make it do to fiv+ but he was the bestest Boi.
We adopted a pair of cats, one Maine c**n and one Norwegian forest cat. Both are pretty affectionate, but the Norwegian is by far more dog-like and affectionate. She demands our attention often and constantly sits on or next to one of us. I'm sure they're not all the same. We have loved having both large kitties (17 and 18 pounds).
I refer to our MC as our doggie cat. He faithfully follows me around the house, waits for us at the door or window, and always wants to supervise. The males are notorious clowns and he gets extra goofy in cold weather. At around age 5 or so he became a lap cat too. We walk him on a leash outdoors and he loves it.
Yeah, a 20 pound lap cat. oy.
It’s alright, you can say “Maine C**n” as in raccoon. As Morgan Freeman said: Don’t talk about it! You and all others bring it to light when you use ** or are politically correct. I believe you were being respectful but if we continue with being PC in this area it will become more and more rigid and eventually we all become in “locked step”.
Yes! I had a half breed Maine C--n. He was basically a dog. Had to be by my side at all times, loved playing, loved people. He was the best cat ever. We just adopted a kitten who looks like he has Main C--n in him, but not sure on it. Would love a full breed, but they can be pricy.
No, he is a cat. Cats are the most beautiful boy in the room.
Oh, yes! Our Bjorn even plays fetch with us, steals our socks and slippers and enjoys playing hide and seek. A proper goofball. MCs are great!
I mean the MC that my mom had wasn’t very playful, except if you pulled out some catnip! She loved that stuff.
They are a special breed for sure. Cured my longing for a cat AND a dog lol
Yeah. I had a cat that was half Main C00n... He was feral when we got him, so it took a lot of effort to housebreak him. But once he did, he was the most loyal and loving cat I've had. Followed me around everywhere, played 'throw' with me. (brings me his toy, expects me to throw it)... I miss him, his name was Bob.
Bo, that is a cat personality. All graces belong to felines.
Yes. we had one named Lily, who, unfortunately, succumed to a heart problem. But, she was just so smart and funny, and, very unfelinelike, she loved playing in the rain. I’ve heard this is another characteristic of Maine Coons.
I have one and she follows me everywhere. Also bites ankles.
Maine C**n? I suppose Racc**n, Cocc**n, Tyc**n, C**nskin, and C**nhound will have to be censored too. BP what is with all this unn*cessary c*nsorship?!
@Jonny Man I put a comment explaining why it's censored a bit higher up in the thread if you're interested. If not, the TL;DR is that the word in question means something *very* different in British English than it does in your native tongue. It's good to remember that the US isn't the entire planet and american English isn't a global language🙂
Sadly (and not too unexpectedly), this may be more prevalent in England now, but "c**n" and the racist roots are 100% American. It originated with the old South Carolina Minstral character "Zip C**n" in the Jim Crow South. People suck :-(
Yes. One of mine plays fetch.
My husband had a friend years ago who had a Maine C**n cat. I didn't know that Maine Coons grew that large, although I knew they were larger than other breeds. I would say that his Maine C**n weighed about 15 pounds. I have also heard that Maine Coons have unique personalities more like dogs. I would like to get a Maine C**n someday.
The one that I knew did like to play 'fetch'.
