I often visit flea markets looking for old cameras or something like this. One day I saw a stand from a Frenchman who was selling a mass of very old photographs, only portraits. I bought some pictures from him. I had an idea in mind to do something with old vintage photographs but didn't know what. When I viewed the pictures at home I decided to transform all these people adding them to the present.
It's about time, the past and the present. All people in these pictures are strangers from the past, most probably dead for a long time. Now they all come together in the present, like ghostly appearance on different locations and cities.
For these series, I combined two photographs - one picture I took with my own self-made anamorphic pinhole camera and one old vintage photograph. The pinhole images are all 6x6 film photographs which I developed on my own and scanned the negatives. Then I also scanned the portraits. At the end, I combined these pictures using photoshop and added some 'ghostly' effects.
The name of this series is 'ghosts of...' and they're created by me, Frank Machalowski.

Every moment is so important - and then the moment passes, has passed, is gone forever. One of the oxygen molecules in my bloodstream was once inhaled by Julius Caesar, another by a dodo long after photosynthesis was invented by what we know as plants. These are shadows of eternity lurking in each fleeting moment.
I imagine these ones would just stand still, staring at you as you pass...
I love how each one of the pics seems to be telling a story of life and tradegy. I surprise myself wondering what these people's lives were like, what were their dreams, which ones they fulfilled.. and what tragedies took their lives for them to be stuck between dimensions like that (in the context of the pics of course, because I hope their actual lives were long and happy, but that we'll never know)
Because of the light and her expression, I picture this as being an angel showing some lost and desperate one the path to safety/salvation
Yes, that is exactly what I thought as well those are my favorite books. Seriously
Load More Replies...Wow... They're the perfect balance of beautiful and creepy. Very well done!
This collection should be put on show in an art exhibition. The photos have lots for people to ponder on.
I kinda liked them but one view is going to be enough. They're unsettling for some reason.
There are already too many people pretending ghosts exist. I hope this doesn't encourage them.
what difference does it make to you? If someone has a belief that is contrary to yours then what does it matter to you? It doesn't affect you in any way. Furthermore the only people who would be "encouraged" by these photos would likely be those with diminished capacities or small children with fanciful imaginations as the post author explained what these photos are about so you'd have to be pretty stupid to gather that this is any [further] kind of "proof" that ghosts exist. What is "too many" people "pretending" anyway? You really have no idea about the spirit world as far as I can tell. In fact not one of us do. It's something that's unknown. I personally don't believe it but I don't s**t on someone who does. That's for arrogant pricks who think their opinions and religious beliefs are the only ones that matter.
