Most of my fellow Americans believe that China is a communist country. It isn't, of course. There has never been a communist government in human history; the philosophy of communism specifically repudiates the right of the State to even exist. China is a dictatorship by committee, that is to say, much like the mafia, it's run by a small group of old, incredibly wealthy men.

In the US, "communism" is just a fearmongering buzzword with no real meaning and it's used interchangeably with "socialism" as if they were one and the same.

Born and raised in US. Never thought of them as the same. Haev told people 1. the difference and 2. how far we are from either and 3. how right-wing even the "left" is in the US compared to other nations. Only friends from other countries sympathize. And they believe capitalism is a system that rewards hard work (um no, it rewards people who have capital to gamble on businesses -- that's why it is called "capitalism.") Pro healthcare and Pro gun control. It's almost as if they don't want everyone to die.

The majority of Americans actually support a national healthcare program or a national program with private options. 90% of Americans support mandatory background checks to buy a gun. However, we also have essentially legalized bribery in our political system, so politicians often find it in their interest to not give us what we want. We also have various anti-democratic representation structures in our constitution that privilege smaller, rural states votes over the majority of Americans that live in more urban areas. In short: It's effed.

Can’t speak for the Australian right, but the New Zealand right defunded the s**t out of our public healthcare during the 9 years they were in charge. Throw in Jacinda, who thinks if she moves at a glacial enough pace on fiscal reform then maybe the right wing party won’t repeal it the moment they get voted in next, and our healthcare system is overloaded EVEN WITH no community outbreaks of covid. 🤦‍♀️ To paraphrase Mean Girls, in public healthcare countries all the attacks have to be sneaky.

Very true. And there is no counter-weight on the other side because everyone even a good portion of democrats frown upon socialism. Decades of vilifying all sort of lefties and labeling them has done some numbers on political pluralism. And the price is absence of choice, which none of us feel because our eyes are fixated on the opportunities in front of us. The land of opportunities, if you define opportunity "wealth" and "success".

I don’t see how we have a huge issue with left radicalism in Germany, considering that one of our CDU politicians was assassinated recently by a right-wing extremist, as well as several attacks on synagogues and a bar. I think cars burning at G20 is on a very different level than what right wing parties brought us incl. die Stürmung des Bundestages.

Thats BS. We recently had Problems with facist terrorism (NSU), structures of right wing people in police and Army, who were discovered by leaking chat groups and several politicians and activists beeing threatened to have their Family Hurt or get their car burnt by facists e.g. in Britz or Neukölln. Even Seehofer, a conservative politian admitted that we are having problem with right wing extremism far more intense than left one( the latest was caused by the RAF 30 years ago) last year.

I don't think there us a "middle" since CDU, CSU, afd etc lean to/are the right and FDP is a joke. I miss a party that is tolerant, eco friendly and has common financial sense. I seriously can't decide for a party so I vote a "person" or use the wal-o-mat
