In October 2019 German film maker Dominik Seemann released his short film “The White Marble” (Weisse Kugel) which tells the story of a young family facing a dystopic future where overpopulation is countered with a “lottery of death”. People randomly get small marbles sent by the government: a white marble means live, a black marble means death.
Now if one family member gets a black marble and another one gets a black one, imagine the inner conflict parents will have as well as their kids.
Also the film shows what’s going on in the background. You see protesters, politicians, opposition and corruption.
As dark as the theme of “The White Marble” is, no one would have believed reality would catch up so quickly.
In April we saw hospital staff having to decide which patient to help in terms of limited space and masses of infected people.
Protesters all around the world and politicians are arguing about human rights.
“The White Marble” is currently available in its German original language and English subtitles. Most of the scenes have been recorded in English too, the international version is still in post production.
