Shopping for everyday items after a long day at work is that mundane task some of us truly dread. There's just something so annoying about an overly helpful shop assistant when you just want to shop in peace. And some supermarkets are so big that you can spend 20 minutes just looking for the cheese section.
However, some stores have found ways not to only solve most of the problems, but to make shopping more fun. These genius ideas collected by Bored Panda, are found in various superkarkets and stores all over the world. Which ideas would you like to implement in your local supermarkets? Tell us in the comments below!

This is so genius. Sometimes I enter a store, especially perfume or makeup, and the assistant follows me like a shadow of mine. What I do is just leave, even if I really wanted to buy an item. Shops should realize that this hurts their profits rather than increasing their sales.

My Local Grocery Store Is Selling Unattractive Produce At Reduced Prices That Would Normally Be Tossed Out!
I always thought this was one of the dumbest thing ever, especially since they all more or else taste the same.
The Misfits! Clever! My grandpa would say that I can trust the unattractive produce more, it means they grew naturally. No or maybe minimal chemicals, pesticides, fertilizers in it.. compared to the perfectly shaped produce.
Once a checkout lady while scanning my groceries (at Waitrose, UK) asked if I wanted a different bag of pears (prepacked bag of organic pears) because the pears in the bag I picked looked like they had a few faults/marks on them. There was absolutely nothing wrong with them. I told her that I'm fine, that I don't expect them to be perfect looking, as they are organic. I think she was just trying to be nice and attentive but it's sad that she thought that there was something wrong with the pears just because they didn't look perfect. We've got wrong standards re food these days. I'd take a fallen and beaten natural organic pear from a garden over a perfect looking one from a mass producer sprayed with god knows what every time.
All stores should do this. Way too much food gets thrown in the garbage.
Awesome. Maybe someday Americans will buy fruit with flavor instead of fruit that looks perfect and tastes like styrofoam.
Mine too.. it's amazing what people won't buy if it's "expired" or the can is slightly dented or fruit is a little overripe.
Sometimes ugly produce is different from less ugly produce. For instance, a tomato with dents in it is probably worse than a perfectly round one.
Fair enough - this, or they could donate it to food banks. Anything but the tip.
e of our supermarkets in Australia market these as 'The Odd Bunch'..Woolworths..l normally grab my fruit/veggies from this section..
Yea, but now days everyone thinks it should look perfect. If not, won't buy.
Not sure about this idea....when I shop for produce, I search for the best looking item in the bunch. I see several people come and go with their plastic bags filled with tomatoes (for example) and I'm still standing there, looking for a few absolutely perfect ones! Granted, they all may taste the same, but presentation is everything!!!
So glad someone is sticking their neck out and doing this! I have a feeling this will become more common very soon. Love it!
Call odd-bods in Woolworths Aust. Cheaper coz they dont fit into the "perfect"/just right column. Still tastes the same
This is a great idea! This is where you'd find me shopping, cause I myself and a MISFIT! Hmmmm, but why is there a phone there? Now I could see if these were reduced donuts. The phone would be so you could call your locale police precinct and alert them to the sale! :-D
Probably an interstore PA system from the checkout to produce centre if teller needs to check something.

So many great ideas that i really like but on the down side I also see how a lot of these add to cost or leave a store vulnerable to costly litigation. It comes down to how much extra people are willing to pay for an enhanced shopping experience.
Some if these are sooooo smart and usefull!! They should put them in all stores!
How can you be only 12 years old Flinkie!? You seem so smart!
Load More Replies...I've seen the "free fruit" basket at my grocery store the last few months. It's usually empty, so I guess the staff doesn't refill it in the afternoons. Anyway, last time I was there, a father told his kid not to touch anything in the basket because "everyone else has touched that food." I'm all for being careful with your kids, but does this guy think that nobody touches his food when he is in the produce section picking out fresh vegetables or fruit?
Great ideas but many of them already appeared on Bored Panda and it wasn't only once or twice. I liked to see the new ones though.
