Sometimes we get so used to everyday life, it becomes hard to imagine that things can be different. But they can. Whether it's out car getting scratched in the parking lot or our poop splashing in a public toilet so loud, everyone knows what we're doing, if there's a problem, there's a solution. Bored Panda has collected a list of genius ideas that have the potential to make some our day-to-day struggles go away, and while you in particular might not benefit from all of them, you'll still probably appreciate the effort that went into making them a reality.

My Local Vet Has A Sign And Candle For When Someone's Pet Is Dying

My Local Vet Has A Sign And Candle For When Someone's Pet Is Dying

As heartbreaking as it is to say goodbye to your pet, it's what most of them need during their final moments. "I beg you DO NOT LEAVE THEM,” a message shared by Hillcrest Veterinary Clinic in South Africa read. "Do not make them transition from life to death in a room full of strangers in a place they don’t like. The thing you people need to know that most of you don’t is that they search for you when you leave them behind. They search every face in the room for their loved person. They don’t understand why you left them when they are sick, scared, old, or dying from cancer and they need your comfort.”

These Lines Go Up The Wall So You Can Park Perfectly In-Between The Lines

These Lines Go Up The Wall So You Can Park Perfectly In-Between The Lines

Everyone wants to drive until it's time to park in a cramped corner. This particular one was found in Seattle, under the Amazon Go store. And even though the driver on the left didn't back backwards, it actually has a lot of benefits. Most importantly, reversing into a parking space gives you greater control and makes it easier to manoeuvre out the space. Avoiding reverse parking usually leads into much more difficult situations, trying to wiggle your car out of a tight space when you parked front-first.

This Toilet Flushes By Using Your Foot

This mechanism is located in a toilet in Mexico and you don't have to be a germaphobe to appreciate it. Unsanitary public toilets can lead to gut infections, lung and skin infections as well as STDs. If a stool doesn't look clean but you really need to use it, consider using tissue paper to open its door, using the toilet seat cover, and if there isn’t one, cleaning the toilet seat with a tissue paper before using it or even hovering closely above the toilet.

My Grocery Store Started Selling Overripe, Discount Bananas With A Recipe For Banana Bread On The Bag

This solution comes at a time when it's needed the most. Americans waste 150,000 tons of food each day – equal to a pound per person. Also, fruit and vegetables were the most likely to be thrown out, followed by dairy and then meat.
By the way, interestingly enough, banana bread is actually a somewhat young dish. It first became a standard feature of American cookbooks with the popularization of baking soda and baking powder in the 1930s.

Supermarket Trolleys In Sweden Have A Map Of The Supermarket

Supermarket Trolleys In Sweden Have A Map Of The Supermarket

It's about time we got something like this. Rick Paulas of the Pacific Standard has compared the current design of many grocery stores to casinos. "There are lights and sounds that re-focus attention every micro-second, carpet on the ground to offer cushion for our feet, an open-flow space from the slot machines to the poker tables to the roulette. But what's more important is what's not there: clocks on the wall, bathrooms, escape routes. The reason is obvious — can't spend money if you're not present—and they point toward why supermarkets attempted to get their customers lost."

This is awesome. When I was a kid (in NYC no less!) mom would say 'go to the park!'. That was Central Park. We would go with the other kids in our building and catch tadpoles and crawdaddys and bring them home. She taught us to ride the subway when we were about 8, 9, and 10 (me the youngest, and my two older brothers). That independence has served me well.

It's kind of sad that children should carry this around to warn others that they are just "free range" children that actually are playing outside with their parent's consent. Not that that won't stop people to call the police and CPS on them. Because letting your child play outside is child abuse and not vaccinating them is "a right to choose not to vaccinate." /S

From what I have heard, yes. Part of this is due to news and how they report things but another part is I believe because many can't seem to differentiate between local and national news. I think many see what is reported on the news and somehow subconsciously translate that all that happening in their own town, or even part of town, making so that all of the hundreds or thousand of incidents could happen to them rather than just a small fraction of the incidents.

One thing I love about our neighborhood is that kids DO play out front, and range up and down the street between houses. They're not just back yard kids or play-date kids, they can play without Mommy there making sure nobody ever does anything mean to little Susie. Kids need that to learn social skills and just have unstructured fun!

I want this! I was afraid to let my kids play alone in the front yard for a awhile because I'd heard some people were calling children services if they didn't see a parent right there with the kids. I sat on the porch. Now I'm over it, know more people in the neighborhood, and let my kids walk around the block. I think this summer I might let them walk to the library alone as well (block and a half away).

There’s a misunderstanding about risk in there: likelihood of something happening, has to be weighed against seriousness if it does. Crime rate alone is an inadequate measure.

I fondly remember my free-range 1970s childhood. My favorite thing in summer was walking to the city pool with my friends where we had season passes. We changed into our swimsuits without a parent, swam all afternoon without a parent (there were two lifeguards but that was it), walked home without a parent, then hung out in the yard without a parent until dinnertime. It was wonderful.

Compare that to this past summer in my new city, where the local zoo has some awesome playground equipment, probably left over from another era. For every child on it, there was an adult right there on the equipment with them, guiding their every tiniest move, hands-on guiding them down the slide, making sure they didn't climb, crossing rope bridges while hanging on tight to the child-leash. It was completely alien to me.

It really depends on the kid, and their circumstances. My (small stature and adorable) son learned self defense tactics and was a black belt in Kung fu by age 11, He knew better self defense than most adults! Even so, I worried about sending him out alone because he was a bit of a dreamer, and could easily forget to "look both ways" etc, so I had him go out with his more area aware (but younger) friend down the street. They learned from each other, and grew into phenomenal teenagers, with their self confidence intact.

My Dad and I were talking once and he told me when my brother and I were teenagers in the mid-70’s, my brother was riding his bike on a trail out by the Forest Preserve Glenview, IL. He was alone, and at the end near a fence and some houses-basically, I guess some kind of dead end. He noticed a nearby car with two men had been creeping up onto the bike path blocking his way. Somehow he was able to throw the damned bike (he had a bad feeling and didn’t want to wait around to find out what they wanted) over the fence, and was able to hop over after it , apparently as the men were getting out. My brother ran to the first house screaming, no one was home, then to the next and then called my Dad to come pick him up. They didn’t call the police or even tell me (because, WTF, they didn’t want to scare me- how ‘bout warn me). My Dad never even thought about John Wayne Gacy until one of his poor customer’s sons was missing after doing some work for that bastard and I’m not sure what happened.

You know what'll happen right? Someone will go up to kids asking them if they have this id, when the kid goes to get it out, the person will grab them while distracted. If the kid doesn't have one, they'll say they have to take the kid back to their parents until they get one, then drive off with them. Short sighted-thinking here.

Safer is a stretch and a kid shouldn't be on their own outside unless they're walking home from school or something but that's still a stretch and there's really nothing a kid could be doing on their own outside unless it's like in their neighborhood and what would a kid even be doing?
