102Kviews
A Reddit user named Natalie Zamani went on an incredible journey to find herself. From childhood, she felt like she didn’t belong in her body. Feeling confused and lost, she found other people like her in the world and realized that she is transgender.
Soon, after a lot of research, Natalie discovered that she could take hormones and finally feel like herself. She shared progress photos of her transition on Reddit and they are amazing! Natalie received a lot of love and support from other Reddit users. She shared her story with Bored Panda down below.

“I learned early on that feeling this way was something I had to completely hide, but my girly tendencies still came out in my personality here and there. That changed when I hit my early teen years and the start of puberty, however. I felt disgusted with the changes happening to my body and miserable that I had to endure them helplessly. This is around the time I first learned what it was to be transgender.”

“I did research and found that there were other people like me, who had chosen to do something about it. That it was possible to transition. But what I found in all but a few cases was that people who had transitioned lived difficult lives on the margins of society, unless they were lucky and strong enough to live in ‘stealth’ and had that privilege by virtue of being able to just blend in and hide. Going stealth, as I understood it, often meant people would leave behind their old lives and relationships and start a totally new life far away from them. That, being the best option at the time, sounded both incredibly lonely and difficult for me. And there were no guarantees that would even be attainable for me. So I made the impossible decision that I had to take this knowledge with me to the grave, and live as happy a life as I could without acknowledging who I really was.”

“Anyways, fast forward to last year. I was 27, I had a great job in tech, a lovely relationship, and had built up confidence in my life. Life was good, but yet I was still not at home in my body. I realized I couldn’t outrun my identity and expect to live a full life. The acceptance of trans people had totally shifted during my lifetime, and I didn’t face life at the margins purely for being openly trans. I had to start living my life. I drove to Planned Parenthood a few days after that realization and started hormones.”

“This journey has been the most difficult time of my life, hands down. But it’s also been the most wonderful period of growth. It wouldn’t have been possible without the amazing people I have in my life—family, friends, and my amazing partner have been my biggest source of support and embraced me so fully and wholly. Over the past 14 months, I’ve grown into the person I truly am and started to find an inner love that was never there before. I’ve only been out and presenting as me for a few months now, and didn’t start doing so until the pandemic had fully hit, so I’m very excited for what my life has in store once I can start experiencing all that life has to offer out in the world as the real me. I’m so happy I held out through all of the pain and difficulty for this moment.”

We asked Natalie what people inspired her to go through this journey: “So many of the visible amazing trans women in media inspired me — and then meeting lovely people in real life who could also inspire me!”
Natalie shared that she loves music and collects vinyl. She’s slowly, but surely becoming a plant mother. Natalie enjoys creative writing, yoga, cycling, and the arts.

She shared with us the first things she noticed when she started her transition: “It was really slow and for about 10 months I looked super awkward. But I noticed immediately feeling like things were right in my body, and that I was at least on the right course finally.” She also opened up that the hardest part of the transition was losing loved ones.

“My partner Irene was and is incredibly loving and supportive. She was the first person I’ve ever told. My mother has always been behind me in my life, and for this, it was no different. And then my brother really showed up for me, and protected me when I needed it,” – said Natalie when asked who supported her the most during difficult times.

Bored Panda asked Natalie if she receives hate and sadly, she answered that she does. “It doesn’t bother me anymore. I’m happy, my life is wonderful, and I really hope those people who hate me can find their own peace someday.”
Some more before and afters

Natalie shared some wisdom for people who don’t feel like they belong in their bodies and are thinking of transitioning: “Transitioning is hard and unpleasant at times for most of us — but I promise you it gets better. If you don’t feel ready to do it yet — don’t force yourself. Start your transition when you feel ready and safe!”
“If you’re interested in educating yourself, I recommend watching Disclosure (on Netflix) and reading resources from HRC and similar organizations. We’re hurting no one by trying to live our authenticity. If that bothers you, I recommend you take a look at yourself and ask why,” – said Natalie when asked what she had to say to the people who don’t understand or disslike transgender people.

Just to clarify (this is Natalie), I had facial feminization surgery about 50 days ago, hence some of the pics show a nose bandage. So there are a mix of pre-surgery and post-surgery photos here :)
Hi Natalie, it's a courageous thing to embrace your true self. I hope this is the start of a long and happy life for you.
Tara Kozloski, why don't you go back to the middle ages where you belong? People from the developed civilization are trying to have a chat here.
Andy Warholla Jr. good
Tara, so people who feel unhappy in their OWN bodies should just be unhappy? Your true self is who you are inside, not some outer shell. Just because some chance mixing of x and y chromosones decrees your body be male or female (in most cases), doesn't mean you are inside. I'm not transgender, but often have problem understanding wtf gender is and why I have to be that one specific gender because of some random chance.

It's not being your true self. Your true self is what you were born to be. And that's on its birth certificate. Fucking sick how people approve of this sick lifestyle

What a lovely smile! So nice to finally see it (I noticed it's absence in the before photos). Great to see you getting to live your best life. You be you!!
What an excellent observation. You're right, she didn't look very happy before.
People like Tara Kozloski care so much what other people, who do no harm to anybody, do with their own lives, however, all that cruelty that is happening on this sad planet, all those atrocities perpetrated by truly sick, evil sub-human monsters toward both animals and people, all that pain and suffering don't bother people like Tar Kozloski one bit.
Hi Natalie, i just wanna say that you are so so gorgeous and strong, and i hope everything works out for you!

I was wondering if you would mind sharing what it is like dealing with the genital area? How it effects you and how you deal with it. I cannot imagine what transgender people go through and I have always wondered about that topic. It seems that not to many people are talking about the deeper issues that myself and a lot of people would like to know. If you do not feel comfortable talking about it, I understand. I am genuinely curious about so much and just want to know more. With that being said, thank you for sharing what you did. I enjoyed reading and learning about things I am not familiar with. :)
I love how politely you asked that question and that you explained your reasons and that it was okay if it made her uncomfortable. I've had so many people ask questions that were just really rude and disgusting (I'm ftm) and that just made me smile.
Danielle, absolutely! I want to learn and do better. The only way we can do that is to ask questions listen and learn. To many people do not have compassion or understanding as it is. Talking is something we need to do. We often hide or feel shame about things we shouldn't. People's bodies being one of them. It's okay to talk about it and. So yes I would be fine with it.
just curious...would it be ok with you to have random people ask about your genitals? i can tell you're not trying to be offensive but it's just not something you ask if the topic wasn't offered.
Natalie, this is fantastic. I have a 20 year old transgender daughter. She started hormones about 3 months ago. I've noticed some changes, both physical and mental. I KNEW this child at 18 months old was born in the wrong body. I always let her take the lead, not trying to make her conform to any type of stereotype gender role. And she came to it on her own. So, I think I know what a difficult journey you've gone through. You're a beautiful young woman. And I wish nothing but good for you!
you knew she was in te wrong body from the beginning and you didn't antagonise her about it you didn't conform or format her especially from a young age you are such a good parent ^^ and person :)

How did you know your one and a half year old was in the wrong body. Just curious how you would think that’s ok about a child who just barely started speaking. You’re a horrible mother and should be ashamed of yourself.

You look great! I’m so happy for you.
My kid turned out to be trans and is in the process of getting HRT. I'm really glad for them, and I'm relieved they knew they could come to us as parents and get support. I want you to know that the work you do here helps my kid grow up and into a (hopefully) less hostile society. Thank you! :)
you looks so happy, congratulations!
everything I do I hold my body I restrain my movements I try to be the least uncomfortable possible and I think of how happy (or actually normal to have the right body) I would be everything I could have done T T I feel like I am wasting the years of my life so many already have been wasted I wish I could just.. be me I wish this would be dealt with so I can finally think about something else about life about the world around about the future! if there is a way ..
I hope things work out for you and you feel better someday.
You can take transitioning (Whatever that looks like for you) as slow and as little as you want to. From just cutting/growing your hair, changing your style of clothes, changing the places you socialise, etc. There are lots of helpful websites you can join that have whole communities of people in exactly your position You can talk to. Therapy would also be a great idea so you have someone to talk openly about how you feel, and can guide you through your journey to self acceptance. Much love x
What all does that surgery entail?
It varies from person to person, but the goal is to erase male characteristics from puberty. So I had brow and forehead work (as mine was super pronounced), a rhinoplasty, a chin reconstruction, jaw contouring, and a trachea shave.
Hey Natalie :D You're amazing, beautiful, valid, and your post made me feel so happy. I love seeing trans people becoming happier after transitioning into their true selves. <3
Natalie, Thanks for sharing your journey. Any hate that comes your way is from people who put out hate -- today it's you, tomorrow someone else, and they can't escape judging themselves. Your best revenge against haters: LIVE AN AWESOME LIFE! I'm glad to read a lot of people are showing up and expressing support and human kindness.
I was wondering what was up with your nose there! I'm so glad you feel right in your body now
Congrats on your transition Natalie, you look a lot happier now and I'm glad (:
Congrats on your transition Natalie, you look so much happier now and I'm so glad (:
Congrats on your journey so far- it’s so amazing to have a supportive group around you. Best of luck to you on your journey; sharing your experience helps that little bit more in normalising and accepting transitioning For those who don’t yet understand it

You look really good, what a happy smile! Beautiful eyes and great eyebrows too. But I noticed you have the same expression on most of the photos, lifting your eyebrows and looking up. Explore your expressions and angles and show off that pretty face, girl! :)

I am 100 percent for people living as happily as they can. I will never understand how people can be so personally offended by another person living their happiest life, and not bothering anyone else. And for people who are so.fussed with transgender people, I put it like this. People make choices.different from yours all the time. That's why there's different pizza flavors, fashions, car models, etc. I bet you don't waste time being bothered by people being different in those ways. But how can you stand inflicting pain on someone else- real,. lasting pain- because you're so bothered by someone making a choice.that isn't yours? People aren't dying from choosing different pizza toppings than you, but they are from being shamed by closed mindedness forcing them to live totally against their true selves.
You're spot on. This seems to be the main thing wrong with the world. People need to just butt out of other people's happiness.
Better yet, see someone happy and going about their life and not hurting anyone, and enjoy it.

What if someone is happy gunning down people in the middle of a theatre. Should we just but out or try to get that individual help.

Let us see how happy this person is when those drugs and hormones backfire and cancer ensues. And then they feel betrayed by their so-called support for the un-natural that is wracking their bodies with pain and misery. But of course, many of you new age nazis want the freedom of speech only for you and your kind and want to shut the rest of us up. If you do not want to hear the alternative, then do not have your stuff put out on a public forum where EVERYONE has the right to speak freely.

Yeah, it's because it's an increasing cultural social fad impacting young people, similar to the rise of cutting a few year ago. I'm not saying it's the same but it's similar. The only difference is discussing the topic with anything other than unconditional affirmation, such as mentioning potential life long medical problems, is considered horrendously damaging in someway. This means that young people without abilities to make properly informed decisions aren't being given accurate information or genuine advice because the of social stigma that is related to discussing the topic openly.
No one talks about the rights of the female horses, don't they have a right to run around, to live in the sun, to have a foal or 2 and raise them, why must they be sacrificed, wouldn't surprise me if half the people reading my comment think that I am bonkers, raving about horses, look it up please, Premarin!
