Even if you don't watch Game of Thrones, you probably know at least something about it from the thousands of memes, articles, and rants on social media. And you're probably aware that since the Game of Thrones finale aired back in April, many fans of the HBO series are quite unhappy with what they've been given. Especially after two years of waiting since there was a longer-than-usual break between season 7 and 8.

And according to many who watched the Game of Thrones season 8, there are more than enough reasons to be upset (spoilers ahead!). The most criticized aspect of the final season is the writing with fans tearing apart nonsensical plot-points and skewed character development. From short, strongly-worded rants to full paragraphs detailing every single flaw, the fans of the show took to social media to make their stance on Game of Thrones ending clear. So scroll down to see the best memes and what people had to say, and don't forget to comment with your own opinion!

Most of the people are upset about two main characters, or their characters arcs to be exact. One of them is Jaime Lannister, the Kingslayer, who spent most of the 8 seasons on a personal journey towards (or seemingly, away from) redemption. Many fans were outraged by the Game of Thrones plot development where the man who gave away his honor by murdering the one he was supposed to protect to save millions of people, in the end turned to say that he never cared about innocent lives.

Ok, does that make me a bad person for wishing Cersei a horrible death or is just that GoT writers did lead me to believe she deserved a cruel demise given her evil ways??? Because rocks.... I mean.... rocks....

One of the biggest plot turns and another source of fan outrage was the way the show-runners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss handled the Dragon Queen's character arc. Daenerys Targaryen was a character who spent 7 seasons coming into her own right after being sold like a slave by her own brother, who fought for the lives of innocents, ended up doing a complete 180 in a span of a few episodes. Instead of accepting the city's surrender just after a little more than 7 minutes of her attack, Dany decided to 'make it personal' and burn thousands of civilians alive by dragon fire.

If the social media posts and Game of Thrones memes aren't enough of an indicator that the show is going down a pretty dark path, then the ratings can confirm that. While season 8 episodes have more viewers than any other season before, the (usually high) ratings started plummeting as soon as the episode 3 rolled out. The latest ep "The Bells" has a rating of 6.8 on IMDB, just a slight rise from the previous episode's 6.6 which was also the series lowest rating ever. If that isn't telling of the reception of the final season, then we're not sure what else could be.

I would have liked to have seen an update on her torturing, though. That was one of the few times - perhaps the only time - I cheered Cersei.

This. So many series I watched, from early childhood cartoons to modern real life actor shows, did this. Just throw in some surprising plot twist/change of character to keep things ‚interesting‘, even if it makes no sense at all. So many shows were ruined by this.

Agreed! GoT broke my heart in S8 E5. Seven + years only to see the heroine (aka "Mhysa") turn into a monster. I wasn't expecting a story-book ending (although I would have enjoyed one), but I was hoping - and wanting - to see Dany and Jon both take the throne together.

Wow people are missing the point, she has gone bat s**t crazy like the other Targaryans. Her family is know for incest/inbreeding, Varys even talked about it earlier in the episode when he said everytime a Targaryan is born the gods flip a coin. It's not as if the writers forgot how good she was before or how much she cared about the innocents.....she's completely lost her marbles.

I would argue that murdering Dickon (*chuckles*) and Randal Tarlies was totally uncalled for. They were soldiers, so not exactly innocent. But at that point they were merely unarmed prisoners who chose to stay loyal to their oaths. They were not a threat. Murdering them in gruesome way for the sole purpose of terrorizing others into submission is hardly justified. What if Greyworm was captured and chose to change sides under a death threat rather than stay loyal. Would she say "yeah, i totally approve of his choice"? Also, "eye for an eye" crucifixion of slavers of Meereen says "You think they were cruel? Well, as it happens i am no better than them". So no, she wasn't a "kind-hearted girl for 7 seasons".

What about John killing olie? What about need stark killing the deserter in 1st episode? Little finger was unarmed when he was killed. Dickon and his father were given chance to choose between life and death. They choose death, what's Danny's fault ?

I think it's awesome. It's been building since last season, you people weren't paying attention. Shes a throne grubbing b***h. And she inherited her familys insanity. It makes perfect sense for her to go off the deep end. WHAT? You wanted her to just be the sweet little queen and end up with everything? She's going to die at Tyrions hand (Or crossbow) and Tyrion will be on the throne. Jon will just go back to the wall or something.

Wrong. She has killed innocent people, her "freeing" slaves left said slaves jobless. She killed masters of slaves who were actually good people, giving some slaves actual jobs and purpose, responsibilities and a decent life in a slave driven world. She burned... sooooo many people and was going increasingly tyrannical. You gotta be blind not to see how she was growing more and more corrupt. But her sudden jump to burning the city was still severely out of place and not earned. The only saving grace of THAT episode was the chance to witness the madness of a Targeryan...

This is a selective representation of Danny's actions. When she crucified the slavers of Meereen, I don't remember her much caring if those masters were guilty or not. They were aristocrats and that was guilt enough. In a similar vein, there were no slaves in Kings Landing so the people weren't innocent in her eyes, they were to some extent complicit. Danny's morality is actually quite underdeveloped when you think about it, and it's been consistently so throughout the series. It just took a while for her to be in a position to do the most harm.

Just re-watched the scene from season 5 where Danny feeds one of the nobles of Mereen to her dragons. Her face when they burn him alive ... She's always been a bit psychotic if we're being honest. It's just that in the context of the show, everyone was a bit psychotic so we didn't really see it and we just focused on the good things she did.

Not true. There was a scene specifically where one of the "slavers" she crucified was a good person whose son personally sought an audience with her to ask why she killed him. Many of the slavers she killed in Mereen were good people who treated their slaves well, whether they freed them doesn't change that too much. She killed plenty of innocent people without stopping to see what kind of person they were. She roasted the Tarly's without a single word more than "bend the knee or bye". If you can't figure out this "plot twist" you're an idiot and you need to take your normie self back to Big Bang Theory, because this is 100% culmination of 7 seasons of her storyline. And just in case you were too dumb to figure it out yourself, HBO literally put in a flashback quote reel - something that's never happened in the show. She didn't go around just helping people and being Oprah. Every single thing she did was driven by ulterior motives - what she would gain.

So why isn't Jon, also a Targ and Aerys' grandson, not going mad? Dany has never been set up as mad, the writers themselves had previous said so. They called her brutal, because of her Targ heritage, but not mad. It's bad writing for the sake of shock value.

You watch for years hoping when her time comes it will be cruel and satisfying. Then you blink and miss it, you wind back and can't believe the bloody plot twisting cruel ends GoT is known for just dropped some rocks on her head like the plot from a Road Runner cartoon.
