Even if you don't watch Game of Thrones, you probably know at least something about it from the thousands of memes, articles, and rants on social media. And you're probably aware that since the Game of Thrones finale aired back in April, many fans of the HBO series are quite unhappy with what they've been given. Especially after two years of waiting since there was a longer-than-usual break between season 7 and 8.
And according to many who watched the Game of Thrones season 8, there are more than enough reasons to be upset (spoilers ahead!). The most criticized aspect of the final season is the writing with fans tearing apart nonsensical plot-points and skewed character development. From short, strongly-worded rants to full paragraphs detailing every single flaw, the fans of the show took to social media to make their stance on Game of Thrones ending clear. Most of the people are upset about two main characters, or their characters arcs to be exact. One of them is Jaime Lannister, the Kingslayer, who spent most of the 8 seasons on a personal journey towards (or seemingly, away from) redemption. Many fans were outraged by the Game of Thrones plot development where the man who gave away his honor by murdering the one he was supposed to protect to save millions of people, in the end turned to say that he never cared about innocent lives.
Ok, does that make me a bad person for wishing Cersei a horrible death or is just that GoT writers did lead me to believe she deserved a cruel demise given her evil ways??? Because rocks.... I mean.... rocks....
One of the biggest plot turns and another source of fan outrage was the way the show-runners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss handled the Dragon Queen's character arc. Daenerys Targaryen was a character who spent 7 seasons coming into her own right after being sold like a slave by her own brother, who fought for the lives of innocents, ended up doing a complete 180 in a span of a few episodes. Instead of accepting the city's surrender just after a little more than 7 minutes of her attack, Dany decided to 'make it personal' and burn thousands of civilians alive by dragon fire.
If the social media posts and Game of Thrones memes aren't enough of an indicator that the show is going down a pretty dark path, then the ratings can confirm that. While season 8 episodes have more viewers than any other season before, the (usually high) ratings started plummeting as soon as the episode 3 rolled out. The latest ep "The Bells" has a rating of 6.8 on IMDB, just a slight rise from the previous episode's 6.6 which was also the series lowest rating ever. If that isn't telling of the reception of the final season, then we're not sure what else could be.
Agreed! GoT broke my heart in S8 E5. Seven + years only to see the heroine (aka "Mhysa") turn into a monster. I wasn't expecting a story-book ending (although I would have enjoyed one), but I was hoping - and wanting - to see Dany and Jon both take the throne together.
That guy always had a Plan B and suddenly he is outsmarted.... Makes no sense.
Remember when she locked up her dragons because they roasted a child??? And now she doesn´t give a hoot about anyone?

I wouldn't care if Dany went bad, stuff like that really isn't the point. The point is, there was no set up to it happening. They just kept hitting fast forward on the story and it became disjointed. Martin probably always meant for her to go bad and some of the other stuff to happen. That is all fine, it's the fact everything was rushed and forced that is the issue.
And every single 1 of these on BP, S*CK balls! I fully understand people need to make some money & it is easy to make use of the current giant GoT media attention. But most of these posts aren't even funny or are this silly "meme" low value productions..... well at least to me. I sure have some personal views on this final season of GoT, but the constant WHINING of all these people is unbelievable......
Nah i cant understand them at all neither excuse them. Its like a virus or cancer on the internet all this whining. Same people were whining when Jon was killed by the night watch or the red wedding scene. But after time and story was let to build up these scenes are now great and classic and same people forget their own whining. Its as you said. All about money. Tehy act as if dragon queen will be muted last episode and its not very interesting already to see all these how is gonna end up. Its literally like review of a movie halfway through before the ending and its retarded. All about money and crumbs from a great and huge tv show. its very pathetic actually if you think about it
I've always appreciated GRRM's character development and plot arcs, but I was never fond of GoT, so did not make an effort to watch the series. I feel like I've dodged a bullet. I'm so sorry for everybody who fell in love with this series and its rich development just to be let down in the end.

Tried watching season one and couldn't get into it. Based on the comments though, I'd like to welcome you to my world of Dexter and it's bizarre, disappointing and nonsensical ending.
I feel your pain, so far Dexter was def the bigger disappointment but atlease it had a good run. Im not disappointed with GOT. Let's see what happens Sunday. Lol

I love these series and i will miss them after the end. You can't satisfy everyone anyway and reviews after each episode is like reviewing a movie halfway through before its ending. Its ridiculous idea and its all about small influencers/sites/youtubers making small money eating the crumbs of a tv series that has a huge admiration worldwidely. Cant wait for last episode and i am more than happy with what i ve seen already so far.

This sounds completely outlandish and entirely too optimistic, but what if-- we are all being completely fucked with? Does anyone remember when filming season 8, the actors had stated how they had to film "fake scenes due to the paparazzi?" Why did it take so much time to edit this than usual? Could we be seeing the fake footage? Perhaps as an alternative future of Bran's warging? Maybe we will actually be receiving more episodes than we had been told, since double the footage had been filmed, edited. Maybe this isn't how the season goes at all. Maybe this could be a big fuck you in the face of the leaks with which they faced last season. If there will be leaks, them leak bullshit. Totally far-fetched. I know. But shit, I just don't want it to die like this. I'm in complete denial. I apologize for my ranting. Lol.
It feels like every great (and long) book or written series, when they are trying to pack it all up in few hours on screen. Final solution: lets make most main character crazy and let them kill all, explosions, dragons, fire, thousands of dead, CGI madness, who cares about plot and character development, no time for that!
No movie or any tv series can compete a book for that matter. Screen or book its not just a different means to deliver but means as a whole other creation itself. And a book will always prevail no matter what.For example, in a dialogue on a book there are the descriptions of sentiments,inner thoughts, expressions, the landscape and surroundings,the small movements of characters expressing these thoughts. And all these are being build on reader's mind with images of his own as if he is the producer of a movie himself. No screen adaptation can ever surpass that but only come near that. As for the dragon's queen actions they will be explained next episode.She won't be muted. its like toshing a book aside just on a page you dont like or doesnt make sense at the current time.
Maybe I'll get a satisfying ending from the books (if G.R.R.M. doesn't die first).
But we havent seen the ending from the tv series yet so why you already condemn it to be bad? Peter Dinklage himself on interviews has said that it is brilliant. All we need is patience to see whats in store for us before we make each one its own verdict. And GRRM has already said that except some side stories and endings,he wouldnt have changed anything from the main story. All these have both D&D and GRRM's approval. Stop searching for scapegoats. Cause if anything you say holds truth its not in favor of GRRM's image. Abandoning his creation of tv version to get a better out of his books. And at the same time cashing out on both of them. Thats not a flattering light you shed him with. And i am pretty sure he isnt such a guy. He is already rich and too old not to care about his legacy. And GOT on tv is a huge part of it. Everyone wants to write his own ending over a great show that lasted almost a decade. you cant have that anyway
That's not what GRRM said at all. He said the ending for the main characters will be thematically similar. But given how many important book characters have been cut from the show (just Young Griff alone would make Dany's storyline very different), it's impossible the ending will be exactly the same. So if Dany dies in the end and possibly even breaks down mentally, it will not be anything remotely similar to this hamfisted mess D&D have served their audience.
@ GOT writers/directors/producers: Jolly good attempt, but we are not amused. Now please STFU and show the real episodes.
While I think there are some legit complaints. Cersei's death and Tyrion completely ignoring who he knows his sister to be, I think the overall sentiment is a little unfair. GoT was born of great characters and character development. But there was never any rush by Martin to get to an end point. Now with a line in the sand drawn (which does puzzle me slightly I'm guessing the cast was getting hard to keep) there was a need to plot a straight line to the finish Martin had already decided on. His writing benefits greatly from the lack of boundaries in terms of time and words. But I think he hasn't finished the books because he doesn't have a clue how to stick the landing and has punted and let the TV production give him something to adapt.
He might not adapt what the TV production has done now he's seen how disappointed fans are.
One thing that didn’t suck was Daenerys destroying Kings Landing. I’m sorry, but if people were actually paying attention, they would know that Daenerys has ALWAYS been corrupt and a tyrant. Season after season she has enjoyed conquering and burning people alive and selfishly being worshipped with no consequences for her actions. She has had to be talked out of burning down cities, which is what she’s always wanted to do when things don’t go her way. So what she did in episode 5 should have come as no surprise. She was always meant to be the ultimate villain of the series. Sansa was right the entire time, she was right not to trust her.
All of the characters are supposed to be villains or antiheros depending on your point of view. None of them is good.
She's killed slavers, people who betrayed her and/or attacked her. It's medieval fantasy, the punishment for these acts is death. Daenerys was right to execute those people and her motivations have been to end slavery and fight for a peaceful life for her subjects. I can't imagine how someone can view that as a bad thing. Meanwhile Sansa has been completely ungrateful and rude to the person who dropped everything she was doing to come save her ass from ice zombies and lost a dragon while doing it. She also put Jon in danger when she blabbed about his heritage five minutes after he asked her not to do it. She's doing all of this to keep her power over the North. Jon and Sansa have also had people who wronged them killed, but I don't see you calling them out on it.
She didn't need to do most of them. She enjoyed killing people because she was better than them and anyone who stood in her way was not only to be defeated by utterly destroyed. I saw this coming a mile away. She started suspecting everyone was against her. She started threatening even her closest advisers with death for questioning her decisions, which was hinted at many seasons ago.
Actually, I hope every episode sucks and looking forward to seeing it finally end and hope the three spin offs be so bad they are cancelled after their first seasons. I am sick of listening to people talk about this dumb show. Now if you REALLY want to be entertained DM me and let me get you a link to my podcast
