IKEA Releases Instructions How To Make ‘Game Of Thrones’ Cape After Costumer Reveals Actors Wore IKEA Rugs

Being a member of the Night’s Watch in Game of Thrones doesn’t sound like much fun. The constant threat of danger and death at the hands of Wildlings and White Walkers. Vows of celibacy. Freezing your ass off daily. There really is very little about their job that you’d actually want. They do however have some pretty cool fur capes, and you don’t need to be a Brother to get one. All you need is a $79 SKOLD IKEA rug and some time for a DIY project, because believe it or not, that’s what the tough Game of Thrones characters of the Night’s Watch have actually been wearing on their backs this whole time.

The truth was revealed by head Game of Thrones costume designer Michele Clapton at a talk at the Getty Museum in LA last year. “These fur throws are actually IKEA rugs,” She said. “We take anything we can; we cut, and we shave them, and then we added strong leather straps. I want the audience to almost smell the costumes.” Want to make your own? Then you’re in luck because IKEA has released a simple set of instructions in their trademark easy-to-follow format. Scroll down to see the IKEA Game of Thornes merch for yourself. Better hurry up though. Winter is coming!

More info: IKEA

We’re not sure if anybody would find the Night’s Watch so scary if they knew what they were wearing

Because it was recently revealed that their capes are actually made from IKEA rugs!

In response IKEA released their iconic instructions about how to make your own

Just cut a hole for your head in one of their $79 SKOLD rugs

Pop the rug over your shoulders

And you’ll be ready to take your vows!

Voilà!

What's really funny is that IKEA rugs were originally based on old Scandinavian winter capes.

Except that Jon Snow's cape, as shown in this photo, is one of the ones that is NOT a sheepskin! And... cutting a hole like that in a sheepskin like that is not the correct way to do it... :)

Thank you for this helpful blog, which clears my mind about games of thrones and IKEA rugs. After reading about IKEA rugs buy a bedside table Australia from Dwell living interiors.

Now we all know that they are walking around wearing an IKEA rug to make them look tough, don't they look like a bunch of twats in that picture?

At first I thought they were talking about the cloak on the first picture with Jon Snow. I thought "Damn that's some fine carpet right there!" Then I saw the brown things they were actually refering to. lol I can't believe anyone would want to bring that in their home, even less pay 79$ for it. But to each their own I guess.

All capes are flat like rugs. On the floor, hung over the door, on your back, on your bed, and thrown over a horse or pet to keep warm.

For people with actual humanity the skinning process might give second thoughts on buying one of these animal skins
