Why are those guys sitting on each other on that tiny sled? What the hell are they doing with those brooms? And why does that skier have an assault rifle?

All valid questions for Winter Olympics novices. Personally, I look forward to an event when, once every four years, I get tremendously excited about sports I normally wouldn’t think about. I find myself screaming at the TV while some Swiss dude, who I had never previously heard of, does incredible things on a snowboard. I agonize over a figure skater who does the perfect routine, but misses the landing on her last twist. And, of course, there’s the hockey.

With so much confusion, so much drama and so many great stories, the Winter Olympics is a goldmine for internet commenters. Scroll down below to see what people have been saying as they try to figure it all out, and add your own Winter Olympics observations in the comments below!

The Steven Bradbury story is incredible. Struggling for over 18 years as a total amateur in an obscure sport ( in Australia at least ) over coming a potentially career ending horrific skating injury to finally represent his country. Got to be in it to win it!

It takes A LOT OF TALENT AND SKILL not to fall. I mean, it happened to everybody but him!!! Kudos!!

To this day 'doing a Steven Bradbury' exists in our Australian vernacular. Meaning to achieve greatness by default. Classic

I remember watching this and have always thought people didn't see it for what it was, EVERYONE else fell down, yet he managed to stay on his feet, how is that not deserving to win?? Not one other "top" athlete could do what he managed with ease, he could keep his balance and deserves every bit of that win, I applauded him then and stil do now, he adapted to the sudden change of the course in front of him and cruised through, the tortoise verses the hair springs to mind..

As a native Michigander, I can confirm this. Sometimes we ice skate with the penguins and polar bears.

Want to be a commentator? Make up random words and follow them up with 4 digit numbers. Oh, look at the Gambit Drag Spleen, followed by a Left 1250! Sure to get a score if he doesn't FALL and DIE on the twenty foot ramp.

The Olympics are not the right occasion to learn anything about any culture :D It is packed with stereotypical stuff, 'cause that's what the people (most of them) want to see.
