It is called a love seat, the idea was you could sit there and neck with your beau, but you couldn't rub your private parts together. Victorian era dating had a lot of rules. And they weren't kidding. They had furniture built to make sure the rules were followed. Off topic: My great aunt Margaret (b 1898 d 1987) had one, she had her whole set of furniture from when she got married. It used to take my breath away, just really really gorgeous. And it was perfect, clean and lovely even tho it was old. She never had any children. (During the nineteens, her mother had her and her sister sterilized so they couldn't have kids because their father molested them. The mother didn't want her daughters to have kids by their dad. So they never had kids at all, and never had the slightest notion of justice for what happened to them. And they weren't the only ones. It was done with some regularity for a few years on young girls. In Virginia.)

How sad. Sad that it happened at all, and absolutely horrifying that THAT was considered the best and most logical solution. I'm angry for her.

Some people just don’t understand the value of things they inherit or are given. I’m glad this piece of furniture is now in the possession of someone who will love and appreciate it. Just like with pets; don’t buy new, rescue older furniture instead!

Perhaps the person who left it had to clean out the home of a relative who passed, and were unable to take it with them, so they put it in a place where it would be seen for someone else to rescue.

I looks like a reproduction, but still a beauty, I almost bid on a truly victorian courting sit like it, but I found it chunky and the legs were very short so I passed, I regret it now ...

Even if it’s a re-creation (and from the look of it, it likely is not original), it’s still a major find.

It looks to be in beautiful condition, despite the fact the wood has been "messed" with. What a fantastic find!

Not Victorian. Bad 1960s Victorian revival. My mother loved this stuff along with the bad Spanish dark furniture.

This would be great for a pair of cats on the outs. They wouldn't have to see each other but both get a comfy place to sleep.

They're known as "love seats" I think they were popular around the time of the French revolution, they stopped any "hanky panky" going on!

This is a very cool piece. On my way to work one morning, I saw a table in the room, across the street from our house. It was super cute, so I jumped out and put it in my car. When I got home from work I showed my husband. When I told him where I found it his response was "Are you sure it was a free item? They did just move in and they could have left it there by mistake." Now I am in a panic because I have just stolen from the new neighbors. So I made my husband put it back in their driveway when he left for work the next day ( he left way earlier than I did). We have never told them about this but my husband has never let me forget the "time you stole the table."

Secondhand shopping — especially for clothes — is great for both your wallet and the world, and here’s why. First of all, you can wear fancy branded clothes from thrift stores for a fraction of the retail price. You can quite literally walk a mile in someone’s fancy shoes and save cash while doing it.

Secondly, more people wearing and sharing secondhand clothing means less rubbish, less manufacturing new clothes, and a much happier planet. Way happier. According to Sheril Dsouza on Medium, it takes a whopping 1,800 gallons (that’s more than 6,800 liters for all you Europeans out there) to make a single pair of jeans!

Lastly, trading secondhand clothes and items create stronger, more responsible and eco-conscious communities. That’s right. When you go to a thrift store to drop something off or to find a new wacky thingamajig for your office, you’re actively building a better future. You’re taking recycling to a whole new level. You’re encouraging your friends and family to care about the environment. If you’re ever in doubt whether something secondhand is fashionable, just remember: old is the new new.

This Is Probably My Most Prized Find. This Is Billie Jean

This Is Probably My Most Prized Find. This Is Billie Jean

I’ve had her for a while. She has a back story. I drove past an antique store and saw her on the sidewalk out front. I instantly loved her. A couple days later, I drove past the same store and there she was. I thought to myself, “How has no one purchased that glorious goat?!?” I was trying to be good. I went home and later that day was scrolling through my news feed and there was a picture of her on Facebook! What are the odds?!?! I shared the picture on saying that I couldn’t believe that no one had purchased the goat. The post got a lot of traffic. I thought about that goat most of the day but I was balling on a budget. I broke down and called them to see if they still had her. When I called the guy said, “I don’t know what the deal is with that goat! I’ve gotten so many calls today!” He said that she was still there as of then. I got in the car and told my husband I was going to try and barter for her. He knew then, that I was coming home with that goat one way or another. Well, the owner wouldn’t barter because he had gotten too many calls. Ironically, the calls were because of me sharing her. (I have a decent following for my work). Someone had even paid a deposit down for them to hold her but hadn’t returned within the allotted 24 hours. Needless to say, I’m weak and wrote a check. He told me they called her “Billie”. I added Jean because she was mine and I could. I came home with her and then I was afraid someone would steal her because she was so awesome. I made her stay in the house for a week. I finally put her out front but obsessively checked for her every time I walked passed the window. I may or may not have installed security cameras because of this goat statue. Needless to say, she is part of the family now and the talk of the neighborhood.
