The bridesmaids should never outshine the bride. Some brides, however, seem to be taking this to the extreme when dressing up their maids of honor. Or maybe time changes fashion trends so much, that after some the style that was "in" starts to look simply ridiculous. Either way, Bored Panda has collected a series of vintage bridesmaids dresses that are so funny, that you'll probably feel sorry for the women who wore them.

The 70s fashion brought outrageous patterns, floppy hats, and undiscernable silhouettes to the mix, 80s fashion later added vivid color, spandex, and space-filling hairdos. No matter the era, though, these absolutely unique vintage outfits would make your silly Spongebob PJs look like a classy suit. The dresses day "garden party" but the hats say "yippee ki yay". The groom's tux says "we'll be here all week, try the veal and don't forget to tip your warehouse."

I'm sure the outfits are bad but I can't see them. My eyes are glued on the hair of the guy on the right.

The dresses are blessedly simple. The issue here is the headgear. They look like someone re-purposed Easter decorations.

Now these bridesmaids dresses are cool...unfortunately I don't think the groomsmen suits will ever come back in fashion

I forget how young people got married back the day.....all these fresh little faces. Before someone jumps my s**t....I'm not saying I think it's a great idea to get married fresh out of high school. I'm just observing.

If you go inside the church, you'll see that all of the wallpaper in the hallways is gone.

I wonder if the bride had an open wound that the Dr didn't want her licking?

I honestly am not bothered by the oddness of the dresses. I just live how happy everyone looks. No one is trying to look cool; they seem genuinely happy to be part of the day.

Yes, but in her defence I believe this was the norm back then. It was cheaper to make your own clothing and most women knew how to sew.

I'm going to make a very confident guess based on the time period, the flower style, the shoes, the hair, the accessories, etc, that these were supposed to be Chinese style (or at least influenced) dresses. The silken fabric and collar style also really suports this theory. I'm not saying this was well executed but I would be very surprised if this was not the intent.

All the dresses look like nightgowns. And I think the bride is wearing blue because etiquette at the time said no white after the first wedding, so it may be her second marriage.

It’s a “grab your bathrobe we’re getting married” situation.

I don’t mind that they are homemade. Many, many dresses were homemade. My mother was a seamstress and made bride dresses and bridesmaids dresses. BUT, the bride dress is blue (ok for then) and the bridesmaids are deep pink. They don’t go together at all. Could have tied them together with flowers at least!

My mother-in-law has a bathrobe that looks exactly like the bridesmaids dresses. It's even the same color!

They look like their luggage with their dresses in it got lost and they had to wear their nighties instead.

I have no problem with homemade, as long as it's executed well. Which these are not. That wide hem - did they think the girls were going to grow 6 inches before the wedding? The unpressed seams! And that hideous bobble trim!

WHY are all the women wearing bathrobes? And they all (male and female) look too young to be out of middle school. What on earth is this?

The wedding was so early in the morning, the girls had to wear their nightgowns & robes because they didn't have time to get dressed.

Is it me or do they all look tiny somehow, like they're 3/4 size of people today?

I wonder if the bride's dress was really blue? If it was there would have been a story behind that....possibly ( for the time ) a second marriage. ... or it would have been scandalous .
