From the comical mishap of walking straight into a seemingly invisible glass door to the downright perplexing experience of momentarily forgetting the very word 'door' when attempting to recount the incident to a friend, it's an undeniable truth that each of us encounters moments of sheer human fallibility.

Whether it's a dumb fail that leaves us chuckling at our own expense or a brief lapse in memory that momentarily stumps us, these occurrences remind us of our shared humanity and keep us grounded in the unpredictability of everyday life. For better or worse, nowadays, all these mishaps are all over dumb posts on the internet, and all these blunders are documented for years to come.

So to make peace with our collective dullness of mind, we at Bored Panda have an ongoing series where we share pictures of the dumbest things ever said on the internet by people. (In case you haven't seen it, I recommend you check it out here and here and catch up.)

We hope this latest collection of dumb social media posts reassures you that nobody's perfect and allows you to look at your failures with a little less embarrassment. Or, at the very least, it provides you with an opportunity to distract yourself and forget about it!

We All Fail Sometimes, and Here's How to Deal With It Like a Pro

Psychotherapist Amy Morin, LCSW, who is the Editor-in-Chief of Verywell Mind and the author of the bestselling book 13 Things Mentally Strong People Don't Do, believes that failure is something we all endure and it's important to know that there are things we can do to feel better about it.

First off, embrace your emotions. Morin highlighted that failure is often accompanied by a variety of emotions, including embarrassment, anxiety, anger, sadness, and shame, just to name a few. Those feelings are uncomfortable, and many people will do anything they can to escape the discomfort they cause but according to research, allowing yourself to feel bad is actually motivating. It can help you work harder to find better solutions so that you'll improve next time, even if we’re talking about the dumbest things ever said on the internet—they can also make you feel very underwhelmed.

Minimizing the Discomfort Won’t Make It Go Away Completely

Next up, we should make an effort to recognize our unhealthy attempts to reduce pain. "You might be tempted to say, 'I didn't actually want that job anyway,' but minimizing your pain won't make it go away," Morin said.

"Distracting yourself or filling the void you feel with food, drugs, or alcohol won't heal your pain either. Those things will only provide you with some temporary relief."

He may be the head of the Catholic Church, but whatever no Catholics believe, he is supposed to follow what Catholics have been taught and do believe - or they would be something else and not a Catholic. BTW, I have no ax to grind in this discussion. Just if you claim to be something, and dare to be a leader of that thing, you should stick to the precepts of that thing or withdraw yourself (as a Catholic leader) and proclaim your beliefs as a private person unaffiliated with the church whose doctrine you disagree with.

I always hate when he is shown as an example of a "good catholic". He stated that women cannot get any power in the church "because jesus chose men to be his followers", called selfish to childfree couples or that had "only" one child. Refused to fight the pederastia, sexual abuse and slavery cases in the vatican. He is a bit more modern than the others but not a good guy

Exactly! He's only good in comparison to the previous ones, plus he's sure talking a lot, creating better PR for the church, but when it comes to actually changing things for the better he's not doing much.

That sounds stupid, but sedevacantism is a thing. They are a sect of traditionalist Catholicism that believes the Vatican II (and particularly the Dignitatis Humanae declaration about religious freedom) was BS and the subsequent popes are usurpers. For a sedevacantist, Francis is obviously not a true Catholic.

kimlcontreras92 avatar

Sedevacantism is a doctrinal position within traditionalist Catholicism which holds that the present occupier of the Holy See is not a valid pope due to the popes espousal of one or more heresies, and that therefore, for a lack of a valid pope, the See of Rome is vacant. I don't think these Catholics are so much against what he is saying as they are incensed that he would use his position as leader, pope, to actively go against the teachings of the church.

Actually, the issue with Catholics (and I was raised one) is that humans get to change, edit, upgrade, switch, and delete ideas and rules anytime it fits them. Sure, years ago gay people would "go to hell". Now, the Church is changing its tune a bit and becoming more lenient. Are we to believe that God is sending messages to the Pope, etc., announcing his change of heart? No. Humans, as with every religion, keep inventing things that suit them. When I receive First Communion at age 7, it was mortal sin to eat within 3 hours before receiving Communion. A few years later, it turned into only one hour. Today, there are no time limits. Why? Because the Catholic church is desperate for people to just show up for Mass. Forget the dress code, forget the old rules ... just show up.

I’m so confused after reading some comments along the line of “just because he’s the pope it doesn’t mean he’s infallible”. Yes. That’s is literally and expressly exactly what it means. It very well documented and agreed upon by the entire Vatican and catholic system - the pope is very much exactly that: infallible. At the very least in ex cathedra.

Very rare for a deeper understanding of the word catholic amongst "believers". With a lower-case "c," catholic means "universal" and "inclusive." The goal of catholicism ought to become more inclusive of all things, not less.

Ashley Hutcherson, I guarantee he's a true Catholic, a good Catholic, & the reason some of us are considering listening to the church after leaving (call myself a recovering Catholic for a reason - I'm 56). And from your one hate filled, uninformed, small- minded and just plain stupid comment, I can also guarantee he's a MUCH better person than you are. I've disagreed with the Catholic church most of my life - no women priests, no divorce, no birth control, nothing but male/female relationships or marriages, etc - but he is trying to bring the church into the 21st century. I was taught God loves us all, regardless and I should do the same. I try, but I'm happy to make an exception in your case.

Well, and to be fair- not regarding the actual comment mind you- but on whether hs is truly a Catholic- folks have been having that argument for hundreds of years and hence why there are so many Christian denominations- even within the "Catholic" church- you have Anglicans, and Roman Catholics, and Greek Orthodox, etc- So Pope or not- “Heavy is the head that wears the crown.” - another Schism could be just around the corner!

I believe the Catholic Church has a terrible history as far as committing heinous crimes, but the pope is going against Bible teachings which Catholics use to base their beliefs on. The pope (right or wrong) has no business representing anything that goes against those teachings.

Building Healthy Coping Skills is Vital

After that, we can start focusing on healthy coping skills instead. "Calling a friend, practicing deep breathing, taking a bubble bath, going for a walk, or playing with your pet are just a few examples of healthy ways to deal with your pain," the psychotherapist explained. We’d also add that looking up something fun, like the shortcomings of the dumb people on the internet, might also cheer you up.

It’s one thing to lack knowledge, be naive or ignorant. These are merely obstacles. However, needing some warped sense of validation by correcting people you know nothing about, or even worse, mansplaining simply because they’re a woman, is a character flaw at best, a personality disorder most likely.

A 2016 review published in Clinical Psychology Review that looked at 46 studies examining reactions to failure found that a "more positive attributional style" was a strong factor in how resilient people were to the emotional distress caused by failure.

In other words, they saw failure as a result of something specific and external rather than something internal.

"When you find yourself thinking that you're a hopeless cause or that there’s no use in trying again, reframe your thoughts," Morin suggested.

"Remind yourself of more realistic thoughts about failure such as: a) failure is a sign that I'm challenging myself to do something difficult; b) I can handle failure; c) I can learn from my failures."

However, you will probably need to repeat a phrase or affirmation more than once in order to ward off negative thoughts or to reinforce to yourself that you can bounce back. But you will bounce back! Even the people from these dumb social media posts did, and that accounts to something.
