We have all experienced the phenomena of a man getting sick with some measly cold, little indigestion or a headache and exaggerating the symptoms so much, that we start to worry if they are on their death bed. Though men really do like being taken care of (hence lying in bed for a week in a recovery of the common cold), it has recently been scientifically proven, that some diseases do get men sicker than women. It all just has to do with women having superior immune systems that are not so easily affected by viruses. I must have found the only man alive who is the exact opposite. Migraine? Eh, just pop a painkiller and go to work. Vomited? Meh, my desk at work is close to the toilets. Diarrhoea? I feel the reason we act like were dying while women have it "easier" is pain thresh hold, I firmly believe women have a higher one then males, first there periods, those come with cramps {i am a guy raised by girls so I know but at the same time dont} that is way-way more painful than a normal {like poop cramp} {sorry if im wrong only heard of this} there's pain from growing there brests and even childbirth when there older while us men we may deal with scraps and cuts, none of this effect the inner works until the cold/flu, then it hurts badly, while women have been dealing with inner pain for most of their lives, men haven't and it takes us down mostly by surprise since we see women not suffering much from flu/colds there's also the case of men also are and Have to be seen as the tough guy {even us gay girly type have to be seen like that } and will fight it till it get too bad to fight anymore, and most like the care that shown too at that point {mothers love thoughts}

Bad timing for this post...in Australia anyway. It's been a horror flu season, with most of the east coast dealing with a flu epidemic. It recently claimed the life of a young man who had not long become a father, as well as an 8 year old girl, and 8 members of an aged care facility; hospitals are cancelling elective surgery to make room for the extra flu and pneumonia patients. Just recently we've been told not to brush off "man flu" as it might legitimately be a medical emergency.
Those are terrible things, and why we in the US have an advertising campaign going every fall to remind us to get our flu shots. A few years back when the H1N1 flu first hit, I had two friends lose their husbands.

My female friend (in her forties) complained about her fever the fifth week in a row, and couldn't go anywhere. First of all, I think women are just having fun with this, and that's ok. That said, I think men are encouraged by society to act invincible and not show vulnerability. Many men grew up with the pressure that it isn't ok to cry. Men generalkt feign strength and confidence because that is what they are expected to do. Suddenly we see a man (husband/father) who is ill, and quite understandly not pretending to be invincible, and it doesn't fit the picture that they try to project on a daily basis. I have had man colds, but my wife and previously girlfriends have really milked it when they are ill, so I don't buy this idea that women somehow muscle through more than men do. People get sick, we just aren't used to seeing men act vulnerable. And who doesn't want to be comforted when they are sick?

In our house, if I'm sick (anything short of vomiting) I still do all the tasks I do normally, up at the usual time, make breakfast, school lunch, get my kid to school, laundry, cooking etc. If my husband has anything more than a mild cold he takes the day off work and stays in bed. He has the advantage that if he takes a day off from his work, it won't make much difference, but if I stopped doing my jobs at home, my child wouldn't eat.

The weird thing is that so many men make a huge fuss about a cold, but actually don't go to the doctor when they really should. They usually don't go to precautionary exams either. And then - on average - they die much earlier than the average woman.
I do the grocery shopping, the cooking, I take out the trash and I wash and put away my own clothes. I'm also a ham radio operator and provided national and regional communications during hurricane Irma. I also pay all the bills, keep all house related activities on my computer and keep all of them updated and secure. When I get sick, my wife wears dirty clothes to McDonald's to keep from starving to death. I also clean up my own dribble and put the seat down with being asked. When my wife runs out of toilet paper she smells bad until she takes a shower. That is if she can find the soap because I take care of that too.

Guess it depends on the man. My dad never stays home from work even when he gets sick. When he is sick you can't even really tell because he doesn't complain. My boyfriend is the same, he doesn't complain when he's sick. He just lets me know that he is sick so I'm not confused as to why he's being a bit different. I had double pneumonia and I still cooked Christmas dinner. My husband came home from work early 6 weeks later with the sniffles. He has never left work early before, so I was caught off guard. He told me how horrible he felt and he turned around and went to bed. I seriously lost my cool. I made sure he knew just what he had done. I do the grocery shopping, the cooking, I take out the trash and I wash and put away my own clothes. I'm also a ham radio operator and provided national and regional communications during hurricane Irma. I also pay all the bills, keep all house related activities on my computer and keep all of them updated and secure. When I get sick, my wife wears dirty clothes to McDonald's to keep from starving to death. I also clean up my own dribble and put the seat down with being asked. When my wife runs out of toilet paper she smells bad until she takes a shower. That is if she can find the soap because I take care of that too.

Waited a.month for a sinus infection so bad that it turned into a swollen gland in the throat . While working 10 hr days thennnn finally went to the er last time my man was sick he stayed in bed for three days and then i got sick XD
Guess it depends on the man. My dad never stays home from work even when he gets sick. When he is sick you can't even really tell because he doesn't complain. My boyfriend is the same, he doesn't complain when he's sick. He just lets me know that he is sick so I'm not confused as to why he's being a bit different. My ex on the other hand was very similar to these posts. When I was sick I still had to go to work and do all of the house work and cook dinner (because he barely did anything, ever, even when not sick). Someone had to pay the bills lol
First my husband is rarely sick. Second when he is he soldiers in like a man and never complains.
As a kid, I dreaded staying home sick while Dad was in charge. Mom was all "take your meds, eat your soup, take a nap, I'll check in a few hours." Dad was checking on me CONSTANTLY. Offering food I couldn't stomach, meds I didn't need, tv I didn't want. "What can I do for you, sweetheart?" How about leave me alone, don't talk to me for 3 hours?!
It's actually been scientifically proven that men get more severe strains of things like a cold and the flu than women.
Remember, these sorts of generalizations or light hearted humor at women's expense are sexist, misogynistic, and only horrible people find them acceptable. Men may not handle a cold well, but at least we can take a joke.

Load More Replies... I had a bad cold this week, still worked 10 hours a day taking care of a house full of daycare kids. Husband got the same cold and took 2 days off work. While he laid in bed dying he told me to feel his head... had to say "You're just sweaty, that isn't a fever." When he couldn't sleep he said to me "I'm glad you're still sick too." Thanks dearest.
I had double pneumonia and I still cooked Christmas dinner. My husband came home from work early 6 weeks later with the sniffles. He has never left work early before, so I was caught off guard. He told me how horrible he felt and he turned around and went to bed. I seriously lost my cool. I made sure he knew just what he had done. To this day, he has not complained about having a cold again. They can be taught ladies!

There's tons of female nurses in hospitals, risking virus and bacteria infections from their patients and having to witness real life gore and literally having sh*tty jobs by cleaning poop from bed ridden patients. And that's just one example. Please, let's not diminish each other's work and roles, it's all important and valuable.
