I wear them because when I don't have the support they flop around as I run around after children all day, and after a while that gets painful. Some well endowed women also experience back pain if they don't have breast support. Also, during that time of the month, they can get tender--when I was a teenager, mine would hurt just from walking up and down the stairs without a bra, and that was before they were even that big. As for why people shame women who don't wear them, some people just suck.

You got a lot of thoughtful responses already, but here’s another one. I like to dance (badly) to psych myself up for the day, one of my titties smacked my arm. They hurt running up and down the stairs. Didn’t even notice that I hold them while i do for a long time. Also, they need to be bolted in place while exercising. Prequarantine I used to stretch or shadow box in the morning when I’m not bouncing around, they become weapons of self destruction. I would really like to know why people shame others who don’t wear bras too. I’m just jealous and would want to join them, but I have to wait to get home or for the weather to get nicer to go without.

Lots of great answers so far! I wear a bra when I go to work and bralettes/tank tops with bras when I am out in public. I sleep in the bralettes and tank tops. Sometimes I'll sleep without a top cuz it's more freeing. The second I get home after wearing a bra all day it comes right off. I don't like bras at all. They're so uncomfortable! My boobs aren't even (they're like really uneven) nor are they perky enough to go bra-less in public or I totally would. One time I was at a river and I sat down in it and leaned real low so no one could see and let them be free in the water.. Omgoodness, it felt so amazing with the cold water swooshing/swishing by. I loved it! As for why people shame those that don't wear a bra is probably because they have nothing better to do and or envy those that can.. idk :)

Well I was just in a car accident as a passenger and have 6 broken bones, and I AM NOT wearing a bra. I dont care what anybody thinks!

I avoid them at home, but when I go ought I usually wear them to help avoid predatory looks. And sometimes comments. Women often feel like prey.

My truth: I have B cups that look like anklet socks with a half a cup of sand in them. On top of that the nips have the nerve to stand at attention most of the time and would show through kevlar. Needless to say, I look better with a bra on than without. My only consolation is I have a GREAT a*s.

bras are kinda to hold them (this is gonna sound weird) but to hold them against ur chest so they don't....flop....lol.. and also so the pointy part doesn't poke sorry this is weird lol

I wear one for a few reasons. One society tells us that not wearing a bra is tarty, unflattering etc, then also get shamed for saggy breasts, stiff nipples yaddi yadda. The support whilst out and about so they aren't swinging from side to side and around and around, less stress on the neck and shoulders etc and also the underboob sweat and chafing. When I am at home I don't care about all those things and like to be bra free.

Well speaking for myself, as a kinda bustier chick, the support is nice. I never knew why people shame those who don't where them. All in all, every female has their preference.

I don't often wear a bra and I'm never ashamed/shamed. Although to be fair except for those that are like super close to me no one really knows. It's not like I just announce that I'm not wearing a bra and I've never been called out on it, so I don't know.

I wear them when I go out, because otherwise they bounce and flop around as I move, which causes rubbing against loose shirts, which means raw, chafed skin. Not a fun thing to deal with. When I'm home and not going to be doing much I don't bother, but when in public I wear one to keep them under control.

I'm very busty at an F+. Don't have an issue not wearing a bra and hiking around, etc, but I never have worn them all the time - you do develop pectoral muscles that help with the support under the fat if you don't need to wear them. Pushups and other upper body strength exercises help. But so do chance genetics and some people will always need support, and some never. However, since people are going to judge - audibly - wearing a bra is an investment in not having a c**p day.

um... you're not a woman... women wear bras not for the looks but because walking around all day with 'em hanging free actually can get painful especially during physical excercise.

Yes. I don't like to conform to the misogynistic and patriarchal society norms just because I'm a woman. But with larger breasts, it hurts walking around with them after a while with no support.

Mostly, I go braless and don't have any issues with it either personally or socially. I'm a B+ cup, for the record. When I do wear them it's mainly for fashion reasons (tops often fit a lot better with a bra for me) or I'll wear a sportsbra if I'm riding horses (because sitting trot is murder without support). As soon as I can, though, the bra comes off. I've only been shamed once for going without and I just ignored the person because I just can't be bothered dealing with jerks.

Most fitted clothing is designed to be worn over a bra. In current "western" culture wearing a bra is a sign of dignity and class and good grooming. People who don't need them are lucky and maybe even envied. I'm trying not to make sweeping statements because this site is viewed by people from different cultures. And then there's jiggling.

Even in quarantine, I still put my bra on when I get out of bed
