Y’all I’m Dying! This Is Ben’s Journal Entry From Monday About Our First “Home School” Day. That Last Sentence

Candice Hunter Kennedy Report

You're trying to finish your report right before the deadline, but your kid is running around pretending to be a superhero. Or you want to sit down and watch some TV, but that's the moment you realize that your toddler broke it. Ah, the wonders of raising kids! It's a challenge, but there are things you can do so you can focus on your work.

For instance, Allyssa McCabe, a psychology professor at the University of Massachusetts, told The Atlantic that it's easier to keep kids busy during the workday without supervision the older they are. But for those readers out there who have young kids, don't panic just yet!

“For young children, independent play is tough. They really need social interaction. Parents will be tempted to hand over an iPhone or iPad or the like. This is understandable, but parents should also know that the younger the child, the worse this is for their language and cognitive development.”

Instead of making your kid sit surrounded with electronic devices all day long, it's best to go for something that will actually help with their development. Give them art supplies or Play-Doh to get them creating!

Meanwhile, Michelle Martin, a professor at the University of Washington's Informations School and the founder of a children's summer literacy program, recommended that parents play their kids some audiobooks.

You'll be able to focus on work and your child will be engaged and learning. And the best part? While your kid's listening to Harry Potter, you can sneakily listen in, too, when you're taking a break. Now that's a win-win situation if we've ever seen one!

my guess? kids room. The other guess is... they're just lacking in interior decorating skills. Also... my next question is... where are they storing said paint that kids can get to it.

Wow. Hilarious. Yes I have kids and no I'm not a helicopter mom. But leaving cans of open paint around with toddlers in the house is reckless & stupid. Guaranteed that the parent was on social media but will claim it was just a few seconds while they were in the bathroom. 🙄

O my Lord... I'm ..... ooooo I feel so bad for the person taking the picture ... on the bright side if there ever is one is that this exact moment in time is going to be forever etched into a picture frame and hung on the wall that I'm assuming this paint was supposed cover for all the world to see and used to guilt trip these poor kids into just about anything.. it's even bit ironic innit ... I wish you luck parent of future painters ..

I hope more self-righteous parents post about how these kids were left unattended for so long- we all can't wait to read more of your admonishments- please keep them coming and then go search out *other* kids-in-paint photos on the internet and post there also, for the good of us all.

Right Kristin Elizabeth? I highly doubt any of those comments come from parents... if they were parents they would know baby proofing doesn't work, and it's just not that simple... you try to do anything, and I mean anything at all, and the kids will get into it within seconds if they are not out of the house. There is no containing them. They learn how to undo or break all childproof devices, and climb everything... so nothing is ever out of reach unless it's padlocked. Our home is in need of painting, repairs, and organizing but we can't do anything at all while they are here because they never stop running, and never stop knocking things out of place or wrestling each other. Third floor too so can't just send them outside do we can get stuff done...it's just how it will be until they grow.

Same as I wrote on the other paint post...How did a child that little pry the top off a paint can? I, as an adult, have to use a special tool or screw driver to get it off. Then that means you left the child in a room with an open can of paint. You aren't too smart, are you?
