To us outsiders, being pregnant seems like such a beautiful experience. Months of researching baby names, learning about the human body during doctor's appointments, and bringing a new life into this world. Honestly, it sounds so magical.

But the everyday life of pregnancy is so much more than that. And way less glamorous than the movies want us to believe. Stylish maternity clothes are really expensive and hard to find, and that "glow" that everyone keeps mentioning is more sweat than sprinkles.

To paint you a more accurate picture of what it's really like to grow a human being in your belly, Bored Panda has compiled a list of honest posts that mothers and their loved ones made about them expecting.

It's ok to assume one is pregnant if it encourages to be polite (to give a seat, open doors, etc) but if it's used to control and humiliate like in this example... Makes me MAD.

To help you make sense of what pregnant women go through, Bored Panda contacted Vicki Broadbent, a writer, director, broadcaster, and founder of the parenting blog Honest Mum. "There is a myriad of changes which take place when you're pregnant: hormonal so chemical/emotional changes and of course physical as your body expands to house your precious cargo," the bestselling author of Mumboss (UK) and The Working Mom (the US and Canada) said.

Vicki herself has two boys and a baby girl on the way. "I believe pregnancy has provided me with somewhat of a maternal superpower too. My instincts are sharpened so my boundaries are stronger; I have less tolerance for any BS or drama as I'm protective of my mental and physical health and that of my baby's and my focus is firmly on that which brings me joy," she explained. "I recently read that women are born with all of the eggs they'll ever have in a lifetime and that when my mother was in my grandmother's womb I was there, nestled within her as a tiny egg. How incredible is that? I like to think there's a generational strength that has been passed down to me from this strong line of women, empowering me on a cellular level."

That's true, female babies are born with all the egg cells they're ever going to have; around 1-2 million of them! No new egg cells are made during their lifetime. When a girl reaches puberty, she has between 300,000 and 400,000 eggs left.

That is disgusting, even when they’re pregnant they still have personal space! They should have two persons worth in fact!

If you touch a non-pregnant woman's belly you can get instantly arrested. Hy should it be okay, when she's pregnant?

I had a few people do this but always chalked it up to the fact that I was the size of an aircraft carrier. I got enormous, but in my defense I did have twins. I did once actually ask if someone wanted to touch my stomach, but only because it was someone I worked with and I was talking about how much they were moving and I could feel each one separately. The look on this guys face was sheer amazement. I asked if he wanted to feel, he said "Can I? Really?". So I let him. The smile that lit his face was worth it. You'd have thought I'd given him a million dollars. But I never let anyone simply walk up to me and touch me.

Being a Mommy didn’t happen for me, to my anguish. Early, early miscarriages and an ectopic pregnancy, so I’d never felt the “quickening”. But I had never had the presumption to ask anyone if I could touch their beautiful, pregnant tummy, and am aghast that anyone would do so without permission, especially to a stranger. But when my Home Health Aide was about 8-8 1/2 months, she finally said “Oh! All right!” walked over to me and presented her belly, saying “Go ahead!” 🥰🥰 Feeling that movement was absolutely amazing, and I am so grateful to her for offering me that moment.

Legit had complete strangers reach out & touch my belly when I was preggo, I would freak out! Hormones, also DON'T TOUCH ME! You don't walk up to strangers & touch them, especially on the stomach!

I didn't have any strangers try to touch my (absolutely gigantic...twins) belly. My niece's husband reached out and touched my stomach when I was just barely showing, so I reached over and put my hand on his stomach. We stood there looking at each other for a couple seconds and then he said, "point taken" and removed his hand. We got a good laugh out of it.

Why do people think it's ok to feel pregnant people's bellies without asking first? My last pregnancy my Mother-in-law started feeling my belly without asking and I was not happy. I like my personal space so if someone asked it was totally fine to touch. Would it be ok if I walk up to someone touched they're belly and asked when they're having their next bowel movement? Repect the personal space and ask b4 you touch.

One day at church I was talking to a friend who was very pregnant. I said, tentatively, 'I know it's not the baby, it's your body ...' and she said 'oh, you want to feel?' and she took my hand and put it on her tummy and said 'he's moving here now'. It was so kind of her to let an old maid feel her baby inside. I would never say that every pregnant woman should do it, but it was a gift I'll never forget :)

My daughter (from England) moved to the USA to marry and eventually have our Grandson. I went over to help her with a difficult pregnancy and was HORRIFIED at the number of people (complete strangers) who would just walk up to her and touch her bump!!! What the holy Hell is this????? How rude. This never happens in the UK. Wish I'd have thought of this - great idea.

There was someone who's logic was "children don't get personal space, so I should be able to touch the belly" My aunt was pregnant, and it was a complete stranger who walked up to her and tried to touch.

Something about a pregnant belly makes people become complete idiots. All manners and common sense go out of their minds at the sight and god forbid they see the baby moving. It can become a literal mob scene of strangers all pushing and shoving to have the baby "kick" their hands. My daughter started carrying a police baton with her when she left the house because she was so skinny with a beach ball belly while pregnant so she couldn't hide it.

Crazily enough... I never did mind people loving the bump. I knew it wasn't about me but about a new life... New hope.. That said..I never touch anybody without strict permission. And I never ask either unless its a friend. Even then it's rare. I guess just because I don't feel the need doesn't mean that others don't. I'm not sure why I'm like that. It just doesn't bother me but I can see 100% why it bothers others. Strange way to be i guess. (Though if they are sick or anything..um no. And I never handed my baby to strangers either. Germs..negative energy.. Who knows. Im the one that will have to deal with it though. Not them. )

We should make a kid's version for when people try to make them hug & kiss them... when they don't want to or haven't even been asked. (Besides which this can "groom" them for pedophiles.)

That spray bottle will come in handy a few weeks after the baby is born too! Both to spray away unwanted strangers and if you have a natural V birth! (If you have gone through this, you know how great that water spray feels!)

I swear I hate when people touch me. I'm not a touchy person, I don't mind if it's like a hug, but when they are playing with my hair it annoys me so much, they always come up to me and be like I love your hair is so nice and thick etc and play with it, without even asking me. I really like my space. I couldn't imagine how awkward and annoying it would be to have people coming up to touch your stomach, I've seen it happen even with strangers. You should respect people's space.

I believe I was about 7 months pregnant when I was finally really showing and decided to post a cute pic showing off my bump in a tank top I was openly engaged and even if I wasn’t this wouldn’t be okay. But this creeper guy I didn’t know commented how he really wanted to rub my belly because he used to for his wife and how beautiful I was and how much he loved pregnant bellies. Needless to say my fiancé was totally on the defense and I was totally creeped out.

I think this is a clever way of getting your point across regarding your personal space. I'm really horrified to think that anyone believes they have the right to touch another person without asking permission first! I even ask dog walkers if I may pet their dog when we stop to have a conversation. To just reach out and touch someone's protruding stomach is so...so...WRONG.

It never bothered me. I'm in my 70's now, but honestly, at least back then, it was thought of as a blessing to the baby, a good luck and good health blessing. Unless someone is being rude or ignorant, I found it a compliment. It seems so many people today feel affronted by just about anything. I've got to feel sorry for them, that they live their lives so meanly. I can only wonder what has brought this behavior on... does negativity make one feel better? What an unhappy space to live in.

Feelin’ Like A Whole Chicken

Feelin’ Like A Whole Chicken

Madiford2 Report

Pregnancy starts taking its toll right from the get-go. "First-trimester nausea and fatigue certainly aren't fun. Nor is indigestion and insomnia of the second trimester but as this is my fourth pregnancy and third baby (I sadly lost a baby last year), I am relishing the magic of pregnancy as much as possible," Vicki Broadbent said.

That being said, Vicki still faces challenges. "I can't lie and say I'm fully at peace with my changing body as society/the media and my own pressure to not look 'too big' does affect me but I'm certainly trying to be kind to myself with loving affirmations and making healthy food choices and safely exercising. I'm doing daily meditation too so I can be more responsive and less reactive — hormones can be wild at times — so that helps!"

Tommy's, the largest UK charity researching the causes and prevention of pregnancy complications, miscarriage, stillbirth, premature birth, and neonatal death, also recognizes that it's natural to get a bit stressed when you're pregnant and acknowledges that coping with your symptoms and changing lifestyle, as well as everyday life, can sometimes be overwhelming. To relax, Tommy's offers these tips.

Personally, Vicki prefers meditation and allowing herself to feel all the emotions that arise. This includes crying when she needs to.

"Talking candidly about how I'm feeling is key," she said. "I kept a lot of trauma buried within me after a tough first birth and I learned from that period that not expressing my pain was detrimental to my mental health so now I talk (and talk) to those I love."

The mom listens to her body too. "When I need to sleep, I sleep and any guilt I might have harbored to try and be superwoman in previous pregnancies has definitely gone this time around."

Vicki discusses her experiences in her blog Honest Mum as well as on Facebook and Instagram. She will be releasing a new post today so be sure to check it out. Nobody is quite as articulate and sincere as she is.

While pregnant, a friend used to refer to the toilets as "the pregnant woman's hangout".

I Heard “You’re So Big!” And “You’re So Small!” Literally Within The Same Day In Pregnancy And I Was Like Wut

What is it about our baby bumps that makes people think they can give us their UNSOLICITED comments and suggestions?
Here's a tip: Just wish us and our baby good health and safe delivery.

What's the worst unsolicited comment you've heard about your pregnancy?

Very often they're only kind people being a bit clumsy. First one: 'oh, you're 7 months pregnant, but your belly is very discreet'. A week later, (admiring tone) ' wow you're due in October, but your belly is already quite big' (really depends on the clothes I wear). I know my baby is OK, I didn't overweight, I'm in good health and shape, so I really don't mind comments like this as they're first meant to be nice.

Let's Say I "Hypothetically" Forgot To Take A Pyrex Lid Out Of The Oven Before I Preheat It And It "Hypothetically" Melted

What would be the best way to get the plastic off the hypothetical oven rack? Or would one need to just throw the whole damn oven out? Asking for a friend.

Actually, melted plastic usually peels right off of smooth metal, once it cools. Ask me anything about bad housekeeping!
