Millennials are choosing pets over kids for a ton of reasons, from cost (an average of $3085 a year to raise a dog, $12-14,000 for a child) to freedom, basic companionship and not having to wipe their butts.

While not everyone thinks that this is a good thing and sure, the two things are so vastly different that the comparison is a stretch. But after a busy day at a job that doesn't offer the same security or benefits that your parents grew accustomed to, what would you prefer to come home to? A little fluffy bundle of joy who just wants to play and cuddle, or a demanding child that needs to be cooked for, cleaned after, homework and so on?

Obvious, when you think about it! We here at Bored Panda have compiled a hilarious list of all the memes millennials are sharing to show they prefer animal babies to human ones, just in case you need further convincing. Scroll down to check them out for yourself, and let us know what you think in the comments!

Sheeeeiiiit, the last thing I'd want is a mini-me. I know what a pain in the a*s I was when I was a kid. I don't have patience for my own adult self, let alone for a small, useless, needy version of me whose frontal lobe isn't even developed.

I used to get this all the time. "I don't want kids." = "oh you will change your mind", or "why not? You'd make a great mom!" or (one of my favorites...) "your life will be so much fuller/complete when you have a child". Some people just don't get it that my dog IS my child, and that I am very happy!

@bob have to use this reply since you weren't brave enough to have one on your comments. My dogs/horses/birds and every living being on my ranch are their own persons and ARE my children and they give you the most UNSELFISH love of all. Making the statement that "it "(should insert HE OR SHE) is "Just a dog"--well you are just a human--and our poor planet suffers from too many of the human animal life every single day.

Unpopular opinion here... and please know that I'm not trying to bash any parents.. it's part of our instinct to have and want children. But I feel to have children is selfish... you're bringing them into a world where they will have to deal with a lot of struggle. Life can be beautiful yes, but it comes with more struggle than we bargain for at times... and many people are very unlucky. Also, most people don't realize all the disease and defects you pass along genetics-wise. If you know certain illnesses run in your family, you're subjecting new life to it. A lot of mental illness runs in my family. I won't subject any children to that kind of life so I've chosen not to have any just because I need some kind of "purpose" to live for... nope.

I do agree and I also am a childfree person and I don’t like or want kids. And you make some valid points. But on the other hand of your point, life is a f*****g GIFT. To just be here and be alive is truly a gift even with all the hardships you mentioned. I do think having kids is a selfish act but that’s because people do it for selfish reasons like “muh procreation” or “muh genes” or their lineage or whatever dumb tacky s**t people want. But as a human who is someone’s child, I can’t think of anything better than being alive and experiencing this wild a*s ride on planet Earth.

I love how those people think pets are a big responsibility but don’t accept it when you don’t want kids and I just want to say to them, “excuse me but taking care of kids is an even BIGGER responsibility! And it’s harder! At least with pets they are easier to train and can be left alone for the most part. With kids you can’t do that.” So yeah those people’s logic makes no sense.

This reaction is just biology fighting for the survival of the species. I have overcome biology. I have 1 dog, 1 cat, 1 hamster and 0 kids.

Or how about this (the same person stating that they want pets/kids): A. -"I want a couple of pets." -"Come on!. You never stick to anything. It is a huge responsibility and they can live 10, 15, or even 20 years, you know. Please think this through!" B. -"I want a couple of children." -"Oh, that is fantastic! It is time you settle down. I love big families, maybe you shouldn't stop at two."

This is me and the missus, we met when we were teenagers and never wanted children, we still don't 20 years later and haven't regretted it whatsoever, we help rescue animals, have lots of disposable income and can sleep in every weekend if we choose.

People who scream that you should have kids are just jealous that you'll have enough money to retire 20 years before they can.

Reasons I prefer my cat to children: - Is quiet and likes the quiet. - Does not need to be taught to use a toilet. - Is soft and likes being pet. - Is objectively cute rather than whatever babies are (I usually find them ugly, at least for the first like... year)

While I don't like pets and I don't want one I find this very true. It's a bit grotesque that people can't understand that someone does not want or can not have children but they have a lot of understanding when it comes to pets. That is frustrating.

I had some neigbours who never walked their dog. She always stayed tied in their garden. They said they got no time. Then they had their second baby. And then the third. When they moved, they still got things to take from the old house for two weeks. The dog was the last one. Yeah, "time"...

Some people shouldn't have dogs or children. If they can't look after a dog, why would they look after their children any better? I would have taken their dog off them.

Everyone tells me I'll change my mind, but I won't. Kids are annoying and expensive and I want horses. I've seen my mom dealing with my siblings, and I don't have the patience for dealing with screaming, crying, or "I hate you" nonsense, but apparently I'm wrong for not wanting kids.

Whenever previous-generation people criticized my lack of children or caring, I usually told them that I found it morally objectionable to bring a kid into the world only to inherit all the s**t that'll be dumped on them. (war, famine. climate change. very little of that being things I can do anything about.). I still feel the same way, but having adopted my G/F's daughter seems to mollify them.

I knew when I was like 7 years old that I did not want the two-legged variety of kids. My parents were great and were very supportive. We always had a house and yard full of the four-legged and feathered brethren. I was horse crazy and we didn't have enough land, so I had riding lessons and got my first horses at 14. Worked at riding other folks horses to pay the board. Bought my own farm with all kinds of four-legged a feathered kids. Never wanted to have the two--legged kind. Now at age 50+ I still feel the same way--even stronger if anything. My kids have a wonderful loving home for life, and a respectful resting place when they pass. They are my babies! I refuse to back down on my convictions! So should anyone who feels the same way!

Problem is people urge/insist you to have kids and not pets, that they didn't realize you don't have or can't find a person to have them with, some just wants a baby not a relationship. There are couples that isn't ready yet or can't produce children so they end up having a pets instead.

Except eventually the human race dies out when generations stop having off spring. Not to mention the economic impact of a diminished population base. Life is kind of pointless if a species stops procreating.

Same. And before anyone starts blaming parents for not controlling their children, sometimes they just can't. Take my little brothers for example. When someone picks up a bad habit from school that they think is cool, then have fun getting it out of them. Time outs, groundings, and spankings don't seem to work either. I'm only a teen, (which in our current society means very little anyhow) but from what I see, parenthood is hell. I will NEVER willingly have a kid.
