A proud mom recently posted her six-year-old son’s hilarious answer to a math test question online. After correctly answering the first question, he was asked, “How do you know? Show your thinking.” The boy’s answer? A picture of him lost in thought! “The plan is to hang onto this until he can fully appreciate the humor,” the mom wrote on Reddit.

I laughed so hard when I saw this! When I was this age I was told to write the steps to make a bed. I described how to go to the store and pick one out and have the delivery guy put it together for you. My mother was mortified. I had to start making my bed everyday. Teachers could be more specific (just kidding)!
My daughter was asked: "Look at the map. What forms the border between Texas and Louisiana?" Her answer? "Lines and dots."

just goes to show you how our education system is (not) working..... if you want a specific answer .. ask a specific question.... and understand why they want children to elaborate and use their brains... there just has to be a better way.... !!!!!! I love this kid !!!!!
When I was about 4years old I was building a bird house out of construction paper my father says to me are you going to put your bird house outside cause the rain will ruin it if I do. My response was no dad it's just a prototype he was just dumbstruck :-D

Again, to "show that you are thinking" means to demonstrate that you are thinking and he did that when he answered question 1. To show "your thinking" is to display your thinking and that's what he did.

It's because the question was not properly constructed. It should have been " How did you solve the problem? Show your computation."
No. Either works, but his sketch actually shows his intent to use the possessive pronoun response. He's showing HIS thinking, and not anyone else's, so the contraction makes less sense.
