Teacher Collects All The Weird And Funny Things That Kids Say When Their Parents Aren’t Around (40 Pics)
You've heard it once if you've heard it a thousand times before: kids say the darndest things. We've always loved the frank, honest and unadulterated way that little humans choose to express themselves - they see things from a different perspective to us grownups whose thoughts have been shaped and molded by the world around us.
NYC school teacher Alyssa Cowit was so fascinated by the questions and comments from her Kindergarteners that she decided to start an Instagram account, called Live from Snack Time, to chronicle them. According to their bio, Alyssa "believes children are honest and curious, and while often perplexed, they’re brilliant – and that it’s a teacher’s job to take what children say seriously."
She wants to help adults to understand that children are not always acting outrageously to seek attention, but instead thinking out loud, soaking up new information, and solving problems 24/7.
Since starting the page in 2015 together with Greg Dunbar, a digital marketing manager with Walt Disney Studios, they have since grown to almost 100K followers, and even have a book! It's called 'I Did My Homework in My Head: (And Other Wacky Things Kids Say)' and is full of "Irresistible quotes from the elementary school classroom that prove kids really do say the darndest things--and even more so when their parents aren't around!"

I do not think that ten years old children are aware of their sexuality yet. Give them time, and when they are older, 18 or so, maybe, they can think. What am I? Until then, it is all about exploration.
I loved detention. I only landed in detention a handful of times because I was tardy to class, I think, but it was literally ONLY on detention days that I'd start my math homework right away and get so much done. The most productive 45 min. of the day. On regular days, I'd go home and have snack time for a couple hours, then do other stuff and procrastinate on getting to HW until evening, and stay up till 2 or 3 in the morning because I had insomnia, and would have to get up at 6am for school. I always associate detention with something positive. Mr. Robinson, who was my Civics teacher, was the detention monitor, and he was the sweetest guy. Really cared about the students. He was an old hippie guy, really funny, had a good rapport with the kids. I wouldn't have minded going to detention daily...seriously...lol.
I did similar things in grade school. These days I would have been diagnosed as autistic/Aspergers but back then {the 1950s} I was given all sorts of labels we wouldn't use today. I loved being alone in classroom reading instead of going out with the other kids at recess so I'd do something just bad enough to get that 'penalty.'

Literally had one of my students comment the following about 5 minutes ago. I said "What are you doing this weekend?" the reply "I don't know but Im know Im having root beer, my mom got like a gallon of root beer and said its for the weekend" and he promptly walked away
"out of the mouths of babes", nuggets of wisdom. Only a glimpse of thier world and how they see it. We will never be there again.
In the case of many of these comments, I thought, "Oh, what a cute and naive point of... wait a minute, they're actually right".
"I don't know what I want to be as a grown up, but I know what kind of grown up I want to be" is essentially all the wisdom amd guidance of humanity's greatest teachers in one sentence.
Yes, it sounds like something Mr. Rogers would say.
