Yes. I did not know this, and back when I got my first pup in 2006, she was a shelter pup and was spayed at like 3 months old or so. She died very suddenly and traumatically from a type of cancer that has a much higher occurrence in early-spayed female dogs when she was 10. We should have had many more years together and it devastated me. Unfortunately most shelters still spay/neuter as soon as possible. I agree with it ultimately but I hope we can figure out some better way to be able to wait til they've gone through one cycle.

dogs yes, cats are good to go over 6-8 weeks. i follow a number of cat/kitten foster people and all of them (and the vets they work with) agree that as soon as a kitten has hit a specific weight, barring any other health issues, they should be speutered. it's much easier to possibly lose track of a cat out in the world and have it engage in reproduction. please consult with at least one vet before deciding to hold off! many other animals benefit from being fixed as soon as possible, including rats and rabbits, as it greatly lowers the chances for things like tumors or mammary cancer. idk why dogs are so different, but they are, the bigger breeds in particular.

Honestly. I recommend spaying and neutering, big advocate for it as well. But his cat parent seems to be doing a great job keeping her cats happy and I'm sure they don't leave them out on the streets to be gallavanting around and impregnating other cats. If the owner is a breeder she's obviously not neglecting them and obviously taking good care of them. Some people ARE capable of having an unaltered animal without creating more innocent animals. Just saying, be passionate but don't be ignorant and presumptuous yourself about people off of one picture. This is not a neglected cat. Put your animal rights energy into focusing on actual bad people. You're making very cruel assumptions about this person and it just pisses me off. It also pisses me off that they're unregulated too, as well as most animal exploitation operations, but you don't know this person or the background enough to be saying the s**t you said about them. I'm bad bad bad allergic to cats and have always wanted a sphynx by the way. But I won't buy from any breeder, I have to find rescues. And there is no abundance as they're hard to come across for me at least. If I don't want an animal shipped. I've always wanted a cat and these are the only ones I know for sure are safe for me and I still wouldn't buy a baby from a breeder. But still what you said without knowing for sure what you're talking about was irksome to read first thing in the morning and I'm just saying please don't make good people and animal rights activists all look like grumpy if ignorant karens. I know in my heart your wrong about your presumptions about this situation and I felt the need to defend it. Because you DON'T KNOW and you were very harsh. Thankyou Pamela, I agree with desexing if it is the best option and most of the time it is. However, sometimes responsible pet owners can do otherwise. I am not sure about cats as (please correct me if I am wrong) the spiked penis is designed to bring on fertilization. But I have an entire male canine, 7 yrs old who has never fathered a puppy and never will. He comes from a breed likely to suffer hip dysplasia and with a penchant for food. We made our decision and sought advice from our vet, who concurs. I pay a lot for those balls, not without consideration.

My Hairless CC was spayed at 5 months and had some cognitive issues after that. She didnt understand that I was the wife to my husband - I think she thought she was. Mollie was never sick a day in her life until being diagnosed with final stage lymphoma on June 3rd and given 2 to 4 weeks to live. I've cried every day since.

When there are billions of animals overpopulating the earth from not being spayed/neutered and they end up dying from malnutrition, lack of vaccines resulting in disease, loss of habitat, etc it becomes everybody's business. That being said, he may be too young as others have said or has been neutered in a less invasive, more updated manner. If everyone does not care about the problem of animals becoming rampant with disease and illness due to over breeding and abundant repopulation then the problem will never be solved.

No it should not be, there are way too many animals on this Earth as it is already that are homeless and sick due to lack of vaccines because they have no health care, they have lost their habitat, and breeders overdoing things. The only reason owners do that is to make more money to line their pockets. If that is not greedy I don't know what is. They do not care where the offspring end up or if they are even taking care of as long as they are paid. That is why we have puppy mills, dog fighting, inbred designer breeds, etc. Saying someone should be able to choose if their animal reproduces or not is very irresponsible as a pet owner. The cat may be fixed, no one really knows unless the owner speaks out but if he is not and he is allowed outside then the owner is responsible for all of those cats and their future. Of course no one cares though, they will let them wander the streets, get ill and die.

Obviously the concept that is difficult for you to understand is the fact that most of these people have no idea what they are even doing. They breed their animals and give them away to anybody just to get money. Most of them are not even licensed breeders and if you know anything about puppy mills, then you already know what happens when people decide to inbreed and allow rampant reproduction. They end up crammed in tiny cages with open sores and never even have room to lay down or turn around. No one is saying that nobody should breed them, I've looked through the comments and have not seen a single person say that. However backyard breeders and people who breed for profit or dog fighting are absolutely disgusting. If you are not a licensed breeder that is concerned about the well-being of the animal and fail to run a background check like most animal shelters, then you have no business breeding animals.
