What is a photogenic cat? One that has a lush coat? Majestic whiskers? Whatever your answer is, you probably weren't thinking of Sphynxes when you read my question. But don't feel bad for them. Owners of these proud felines probably wouldn't fight you on this one.
In fact, sometimes they're even mocking their pets for not being able to take a good photo, posting their unflattering snaps online for everyone to see. Some of those kitties remind us of Dobbie from Harry Potter, some look like bats, but one thing's certain: there are a lot of Sphynxes that won't be walking down the catwalk. Sphynxes are very devoted and loyal. They are known for following their humans around the house, wagging their tails almost like dogs, kneading with their padded toes, and purring with delight at the joy of simply being near their beloved owners.

Another example of a cruel breeding by fucked-up people for fucked-up people. A cat without hair isn't only suffering from a difficult to maintain body-temperature but actually is sense-restricted since their hair and whiskers are sense-organs (touch).

The special look is one thing, but another is the quality of life for this animals. I am not an expert, but a quick Google search tells me they have to stay inside due to the lack of warmth or they can get a sunburn really quick. In Germany apparently there are regions where breeding this cat is not allowed. I mean, is it really worth it to have such a "toy" for the sake of the sensation? Sure, maybe there are owners who put in a lot of time and care for those animals, but still, it feels very selfish to breed animals and know they will never have the type of life they could have.

It's really just like keeping a cat in an apartment. They can lie in the sunlight in the window no problem. The biggest problem is the lack of protection. I have to watch my sphynx very carefully when I let her out in the evening because she gets pretty scratched up if she gets into a fight.

There is absolutely NOTHING that makes these cats elegant. They look like a parody of themselves, and that alone wouldn't make me angry, but it's cruelty to breed them WITHOUT WHISKERS! Skin is an organ. It's necessary for survival. Whiskers are important for cats to explore their surroundings, because they can't see well close up. About 30 cm from them, things get sharp - closer, and it's all a blurr. It's why they need whiskers and hair. Apart from the obvious, having hair to regulate the body-temperature. Also, Sphinx need to be washed regularly or their skin will suffer. And on top of that, so many pictures here show blatantly overweight cats. No, thhey're not "cute little chonks" - they are bloated. If you, for some inexplicable reason, own a sphinx, at LEAST keep them lean and agile. There's no excuse with a naked cat - you can very clearly see that it's not "the fur" that makes them look big.

Those cats may not have fleas problem but they have a lot of others. Sunburn, scratches, cold and so forth. They wouldn't be able to live in the wild they are designer cats made just to please specific human. My opinion: this is disgusting.

Never thought of flees, but I agree, these deserve as much love as any other animal. :) they are in need of some special care (just like other breeds) but this breed just developed like other ones... everytime it begins with a mutation. And just like with any other breed (any animal) there are breeders who take care and working on not to inbreed them and some assholes who just use their trusted ones as breeding-machines. And, for those who don't know: the sphynx breed has the completely naked ones (no whiskers, near to no fur), "flock" (Whiskers, very little straight fur - fuzzy) and the "brush" (whiskers, very little curly fur)

My cat is a sphynx, and it's just disappointing to see how many ignorants are here in the comment section! How can you call them a "perversion"? There's nothing cruel in this breed, because it's just a natural genetic mutation, not induced by humans. The fact that these cats are looking kinda weird, doesn't mean they're ill, or suffering. The quality of life of a sphynx cat is just the same of a hairy cat: they eat, sleep, play and get all the love they deserve. No health issues, no suffering. These cats can be without whiskers, it's not a cruel human choice to breed them without (as some idiot wrote in the comments). Having a sphynx means to have to wash your cat (not a problem at all), and to have a lot of warm spots in your house (again, not a problem). I really don't get what your problem is, but sphynx cats don't have any

I love cats, and would be happy to have a sphinx. Sure, they don't have fur, but they do have peach fuzz, and they feel amazing. The only issue for them is cold (obviously), sunburn, and some skin conditions/rashes you have to watch out for. All the people saying "eww" or whatever have clearly never been around one, or just hate nice things.
