I found a pair of "mens" shorts that fit me. The pockets are like this but REAL.

There may be a thread inside that, if pulled, would open the pocket. As a seamstress, it's easier to put a zipper in place if the seam is sewn shut. I usually go back and open the seam, but apparently, the manufacturer didn't see the need.

I get these. It's an stylistic choice. You have the proper pockets (look closely), then you have this for design.

Often these are real pockets, they're just stitched closed so the clothes are easier to press and transport. Get yourself a seam ripper and open them up.

Apparently you're supposed to take out the stitches and there's magically a pocket there, and the reason why the stitch it up is because the want the pockets to look nIcE aND FLaT
