"Yeah, yeah, how are you gonna do that, hooman, didja think about it? We'd make a point to pull on the leash the entire time. After that we'd share your favourite pair of shoes. Is that right, Bob? Bob? Stop looking like you are a hooman on a funeral, dog!"
Cute pictures and beatiful dogs, but I really don't like to see all these dogs sitting completely loose in the cars. They should sit in a cage in the trunk or in special safety belt for dogs. In case of an accident, the dog is totally unprotected and could even fly out of the windshield. You would never let your baby sit totally lose in the car, would you?
I totally agree! Every animal should be secured in the car.
Why would you ever in a million years, put your dog IN THE TRUNK??!!
Haha, please see Tiari's respond about the trunk. Of course I did'nt mean a trunk of a sedan.
Ahhh, I think I get it. Classical intercultural communications-problem. Europeans love their station wagons, especially dog owners. It's the norm here. Nobody would suggest putting a dog in the trunk of a sedan.
What is so horrible about that? Caged off trunks are completely normal, and the dogs have more space there than in the passenger's part of the car.
I meant like in this picture. dog1-5a732...901e50.jpg
Not in the trunk. With a doggy seat belt. There are plenty @ Amazon. Small dogs *maybe* in a cage.
Exactly! My dogs are either in crates or are secured with a car harness. And they should never ride in the front seat even if belted in or in some kind of open car seat. If an airbag was ever deployed it could kill a dog.
I totally agree with a seat belt. But, a cage in the trunk, oh hell no. Get rearended and pet is dead, injured, trapped; and that goes without getting into a small, dark place that could have exhaust fumes. Seriously?!
I agree except for the trunk. The poor dog would be terrified in the trunk. Plus, has anyone heard of rear-end collisions.
Yes Lucida this. Also take your dogs to the vets for visits while they are calm / enjoying a walk. Train them to sit in the waiting room politely and calmly, feed them yummy treats. They associate the smells with weird stuff that happened last time. So break that association = everyone is more relaxed including the human.
Exactly. Take the dog to the park before and/or after the vet, give them treats while they're there, go for checkups so they don't think going to the vet = shots, let them walk around the waiting room and make friends with other dogs and people and smell around. And don't let them sit on your lap or hug them when they're scared - it'll make them more nervous, specially if you get nervous yourself.
My dog has never been scared or not wanting to go to the vet. The last time I took him was because, when I got home from work, he wouldn't stop coughing and vomiting all over the place. As soon as we got to the vet's office, he was so happy he was cured of all ailments. He's nuts.
My 200lb English Mastiff is so scared of the vet, he will lay down in the parking lot and refuse to move. It takes three people to carry him in.
