This Rug Pattern Carved Into A Hardwood Floor
I question the "beautiful floor" part. The entire floor seems to be made up of very small pieces, and no effort has been made to stagger the seams between them. The carving does a beautiful job of distracting from this.

kinda funny that there was an article about this piece months ago but now they're leaving out the context? in case anyone was wondering this is an art piece created by Selva Aparicio who states "This piece is about covering and exposing, trauma and bearing witness" so i feel like its a lil messed up to just act like its not an art piece? idk

This was recycled, discarded oak flooring whose "only purpose in life" was to BE ART. For goodness sakes, get over the "ruined a good floor" tears. This floor did not freaking exist prior to the installation. *eyes rolled all the way to another dimension*
While rolling your eyes, Tina, please remember and consider that not everyone that viewed this post has the same information that you apparently do. That info was not provided, so one could very reasonably think that this WAS a regular, home wood floor. Calm down and put your eyes back in your head.

This has a point only in a museum! It's not practical in a house it will get destroyed and difficult to clean
skills but really uncomfortable to walk/ sit on also a nightmare to clean.

Actually this is an improvement, this parquet floor pattern is too much irregular, my guess is the tiles are from a pile of discontinued models.

Hopefully they filled it with clear resin. As to those saying they "ruined an expensive hardwood floor." That's recycled wood, likely a mix of old and new growth, probably Douglas fir or Southern Pine. You can tell by the color, the short board length, and the grain pattern. Both would be comparatively easy to carve compared to oak or tropical hardwood.
Well, if the artist or museum want to sell it, it might be expensive to ACQUIRE. Won't be expensive to "get rid of".

This is absolutely stunning! That being said, if I were house-shopping and came across this, I would immediately turn around and leave. I can not imagine my 5 year old spilling red juice or my clumsy hubby spilling coffee on this. What a pain to clean alllll those little crevices, and the potential staining it would leave!!
You can easily seal it which would prevent that from happening.
