Have you ever used a restaurant bathroom where the stalls are made out of semi-transparent frosted glass? Perhaps you've bought a pool float only to discover that it bears an uncanny resemblance to a pantyliner? Or maybe you've bought a garden gnome salt shaker that looks suspiciously like a member of the Ku Klux Klan? It's a bad design anyway, since there looks to be enough space above the hand clamp thing to pull the alarm without getting your hand stuck.
Fire alarm boxes used to be on street corners, so the if there was a fire in a building, the person pulling the alarm wouldn't actually have been in danger. that being said, I'm still not sure this is a good idea.
And when the fire goes out of control, they'll find your charred remains dangling in that box, no sir ! I am not using that contraption !!!
Most of these pull stations were positioned outside of buildings on the street. A wire was connected directly to the nearest fire station. Indoor fire pull stations were extremely rare.
Women at the White House have actually started to install these on themselves as a safety precaution.
Great idea.... *not* ..... what on earth was the designer thinking....
I'm sure the intent to deter people from sending false alarms was good, but what if the alarm is for real?
These types of fire boxes were placed in the *streets*, not inside buildings. Before phones were common, there were fire boxes placed on street corners from which people could signal a nearby fire. You can still see some old boxes scattered around many New England towns. Kids pulling street alarms just so that they could watch fire trucks come was indeed an issue, and, assuming that you couldn't just reach around, this would solve that problem. Since the fire box was on a street, anyone pulling it for a real fire should have been well far enough away.
Lmao. Why wouldn't you just reach around it? There's plenty of room.
And if there really WERE a fire do they get there fast enough to rescue?
Good luck getting anyone to pull it when there actually is a fire...
