Stereotype jokes have got to be probably the least creative and tired kind of humor there is, a constant re-hashing of the same old cliches over and again from now until eternity. Italians eat lots of pasta? Check. Germans lack humor? Gotcha. Brazilians and football? Mhm. Oh, the Irish love potatoes do they? I never knew.
Yet still, they remain popular, we as humans apparently love to have our beliefs and categorizations confirmed and they make us happy. The internet has been experimenting with another angle on the theme lately, with people exploring the 'true meaning' behind national flags, and they do allow an element of creativity into proceedings! This is INCREDIBLY offensive to the memory of the thousands of Northern Italians who fought and lost their lives fighting for the resistance. In my family we lost four brave men who were helping these Italian Partigiani who were hiding and fighting against the Nazis in the Dolomites during WWII. It saddens me greatly that the Northern Italians' struggles during WWII have not been included in the history books here in the west.
Don't get your knickers in a twist over one persons generalization of what history shows. You may have had resistance fighters but WHY did you have them??? Oh yeah, because your leaders stood with the wrong side. THAT is what history books show, not just the "good" side but ALL sides.

Christ, lot's of people here too young to be involved having much too much to say about this. Things are not as clear cut as you might want them to be.
This is stupid. The Italians were clever to have went out of World War 2. They knew which battles weren't worth fighting for. That saved loads and loads of their people. Lack of loyalty? More like being clever.
Puh. This one is really not ok. Besides, loyalty for whom? Italy was officially an ally of Nazi Germany and in that respect it was loayl. But there were thousands in the resistance.
Whoever made this was an utter idiot, because Italy didn't change sides during WW1. They went in on the side of the Allies in 1915 and fought the Central Powers until 1918, by which time they were weeell on their way into Austria Hungary, despite the reverses of Caporetto and Piave the previous year... And I should know about it, my great-grandfather fought on the Italian Front in the Austro-Hungarian army. Besides, in WW2, Italy had been divided on wherever to joint he Germans in the first place, and after the Allies got to the Italian mainland in 1943 the whole thing kind of turned into a nasty little civil war between the "Esercito Cobelligerante Italiano" fighting with the Allies against the "Repubblica Sociale Italiana" a Nazi Puppet under Mussolini, with plenty of partisan activity in the latter from the "Resistenza italiana", the Italian Resistance.
