FYI, I tried the whole vegan thing. Got really deep into where food comes from, vowed to not eat anything that comes from an animal, made by an animal, everything. Then my iron levels really plummeted and it was affecting my health. I appreciate those that have found success in their desired restricted diet but you need to understand a few things. 1. NOTHING is animal free in our food. Fruits, vegetables, nuts all need to come from plants pollinated by bees. You don't even believe in honey cos it comes from bees. They are not suffering. 2. Animals, eat other animals. I'm very curious what a vegan's thoughts are on this. 3. Humans are omnivores. We're designed to require both meat and plants. We naturally crave both. This is why it's so hard for people to not eat meat. If you have to put so much effort into ignoring cravings and making vegan food look like meat (not saying it's not tasty. It is.) then it's not a natural diet. I do agree humans eat more meat than we need/should.

Human diversity is large, some populations adapted to eat mostly meat in near polar regions. Some others eat mostly plants in some tropical regions. Both have their limits in health perspective. Vegetarianism and veganism even more, require B12 supplement at least, so yeah it's "un-natural" ! But just like a huge part of the world is iodine and vitamin D supplemented... Don't feel guilty if it didn't work for you, vegans shouldn't be shaming people to conversion either. But I think we can agree with the necessity of an urgent decrease of intensive farming for health, animals and environment.

i agree with the whole "If you have to put so much effort into making vegan food look like meat then it's not a natural diet" thing, but disgree with the "we have a natural craving for meat". my whole life i've hated the taste of any type of meat except fish, and only recently stopped eating fish as well. if i liked meat i probably wouldn't have the willpower to be vegetarian

I don't want to come across as an ahole but I know several people who have had an alcohol problem in the past. They still like it, but refuse it because of their will power. Just saying...

Also, imagine if we hungered for polar bear meat? They wouldn't be on the verge of extinction anymore, there'd be farms of em!!

You make it look like livestock farming doesn't require much more land and doesn't consume half of monocultured crops. "Animals, eat other animals." Some of them. But do we have to picture ourselves as predators ? Doesn't seem to do us well even in inter-human relations.

Yeah. Not eating meat won't save the rainforests. We need to cut it off at its source.
