35 Hilarious Chinese Translation Fails

China is fascinating, and visiting it is bound to leave you with some fantastic impressions. Sometimes, however, the English-speaking guests might have some difficulties finding their way around the country. Due to poor English knowledge, complex Chinese dictionary, and clumsy Chinese to English translations, signs that are supposed to help you out, only end up causing outbursts of unstoppable laughter!

Inspired by Buzzfeed’s “22 Chinese Signs That Got Seriously Lost In Translation”, we decided to make our own list of hilariously funny translation fails in China. And yes, there are definitely enough of them for many more such compilations, to the joy of grammar nazis! Check these out, so that if you ever do go to China, you wouldn’t be too surprised with bad translator creations about fresh crap in fish tanks and wild germs that hate soup. Oh, and never order the greenstuff!

Never!

F*** Vegetables

“干菜” means dried vegetables and “类” means type. So as a whole, it should be the dried vegetables section. The translator was way too concerned about the Chinese character “干” which is also a slang for f***.” (Image credits: chinalert.com)

Don't read this comment if you just seek for fun. First, not all of them is in China. Some are Japanese, some are probably in HK or Taiwan, or maybe Chinese communities in US/Europe ... and there's some actually NOT A FAIL. The "Whatever" there is just a funny name of mixed juice, and it seems customers can select WHATEVER they want to add into the juice.

That is still a translation fail, but "Whatever" has a completely different connotation in English.

It is interesting . However, People from China has been working to support foreigners when they visit there. Think about if you visit a country, and cannot read write and communicate, it will be disaster and it was my first month experience when I moved in Canada. to show your support, let the store manager know the mistakes when you find them. It helps more compare with just summaries them in here. Chia is amazing place to explore:)

"Soup for sluts" is NOT a translation fail. Blue Q, the company who makes those noodles, makes humorous products. They also have "wasted and broke" ramen. Lina D needs to do research before posting fake pics.

I don't see an issue with "cat ear" And "no s******g", they are translated correctly. (cat ear is fried flour pieces that look like an ear)
