That lovely German word 'schadenfreude' describes the pleasure that one gets in witnessing another person's misfortune. While we don't necessarily condone this slightly evil feeling, it can be useful in putting one's own struggles and unfortunate events into perspective.
For example, you're not having a good time of things. You didn't get much sleep, the car won't start, and you're late for work. Seems like you're having the worst day ever! It's easy to feel grumpy and full of self-pity; you might even bring the people around you down as well, with your crappy mood.
However, one look at this list, compiled by Bored Panda, will immediately make you realize how much worse things can be. These people are having a really bad day, and it's sure to be worse than yours. Does that make things better? Yes. Should it really? Probably not. But somehow it does, so who are we to argue?

And I thought I had it bad when very early one morning I drove a few miles from my house to drop off some paperwork. I ran up and dropped off the envelope. Upon returning to my car I found my keys locked in my running car... as I stood there, in the cold and snow, in my jammies and cow slippers. And yes, I’m blonde. lol
A client arrived for her appointment in the pouring rain. I ran down the stairs with umbrella opened, rushed to her car door, waiting for her to get out and under protection. She proceeded to leave the engine run , wipers going full on, blast out of the vehicle, slam the already locked door with intense strength, and caught the sleeve of her very large sweater in the door - in some magical way that she could not release herself from said sweater. I continued to just stand there in abject amazement, transfixed, in the rain, face scrunched up. Newer cars do not allow that "activity" - can't be locked from inside - especially with keys in ignition - engine running. But I gotta tell ya, that sure was some fun to watch.

Years ago I worked for a company that handled the service work on all of our municipality's vehicles (fire trucks, dump trucks, police cruisers, and the SWAT truck). The SWAT truck was old and only had 1 key. The door was so heavy it often closed itself. We had to take it to the dealership one time and I made sure to personally drive it there so I could inform the shop manager, AND the technician they said would be working on the radiator, about being sure to NOT lock the key IN the SWAT truck! Got back to my work and not 30 mins later I got a call from the dealership...keys locked in truck... Don't worry, I found a way to get the key out!!! I had half the guys in the shop running around finding me the items I needed to pull it off! LOL
I saw this happen with a hook-and-ladder truck. Luckily, they weren't on a call (nor were they called during the dilemma)--they'd stopped in front (yes, THE VERY front) of a grocery store to buy groceries. Much embarrassment was experienced. Poor guys!
Had a rental car from airport (miles away from my relatives) with four children in it 5, 7, 10 and 14, stopped for lunch at a place they liked and we all locked our doors, with the key inside AND THE MOTOR RUNNING. My brand name rescue service took 2.5 hours to get to us (car ran out of gas during that time and fortunately the rescue truck came with a gas can full for me) getting the rental car open took an inordinate amount of time, and the restaurant bill was astronomical. Then we went to the mall to go shopping.
Could try like hell, or just hide and wait for an experienced car thief to come wandering by to do the job for you....
Elon Musk needs to find out where they source their bullet-proof windows.

Payback is sweet. When I was still driving,one of those things parked *across* all three handicapped spots at a store, leaving me trying to stagger from the farthest spots in the lot. Then the driver*sneered* at me , saying they could park 'anywhere they liked'. I LOVE it!
Oh this is so funny. These guys are the epitome of helplessness. How did they ever get out of this one.
