Emotions are a complex thing. Anyone would say that sadness feels bad, and laughing feels good. But the human psyche is so much more complicated than that, and things are never just black and white.
So in order to see how that works in practice, we’re diving into a collection of posts that will simultaneously crack a smile, and leave you pretty sad. And thanks to the corner of Reddit “Funny And Sad,” which is home to 726k members, there’s a lot to choose from!
Get ready for a very nuanced experience of internet consumption where jokes meet tough reality, and where the reality is not always funny. After you’re done, be sure to check out part 1 of the post right here.

Why On Earth !?
The Most United States Thing To Say About The United States Ever
Poor Mom
Previously, we spoke with Dr. Lise Deguire, a clinical psychologist and the author of “Flashback Girl: Lessons on Resilience From a Burn Survivor” who said that occasional sadness is a normal part of life.“Happiness and sadness are both normal feelings that naturally arise through life's inevitable ups and downs. When people are numb to their feelings, or try to avoid feelings altogether, they won't experience sadness, but they won't experience much happiness either,” she explained.
However, some people may be more susceptible to sad emotions than others. This may be due to many reasons, but previous experiences, genetics, and mindsets are largely to blame. “This can be partly genetic and partly due to negative life experiences. Mindset is also a factor,” Lisa told us.
“People who tend to be pessimistic, who dwell on the future anxiously, and who ruminate negatively about the past can experience more sadness. However, these are cognitive bad habits that can really be helped by psychotherapy.”
Sounds About Right
Unfortunate Truth
In addition, those corporations would continue to make those individuals feel guilty about "not doing enough" to recycle.
Load More Replies...Fun (aka horrible) fact I recently learned. If all Americans switched to electric vehicles tomorrow, our nation's outdated electric grids would fail. We should definitely support greener vehicles, but we absolutely must invent in improving infrastructure at the same time.
That's what we do in Germany currently - shutting down nuclear and coal plant in favor of wind turbines and solar fields. That we buy electricity created by french reactors and polish coal plants is somehow ignored
Load More Replies...Companies pollute because they produce what people buy. It is called exported pollution : you make others pollute for you so you don't feel guilty, but it is actually still your fault.
Not when there are alternate production methods available. Companies pollute producing what we buy yes, but how much they pollute through that process is something they have some measure of control over. Take our power grid here in my country for example, a huge chunk of pollution comes from burning coal to power the country, but we have frankly excessive amounts of sunlight throughout the entire year and some exceptionally windy cities, not to mention a large coastline. If the electricity companies invested in greener energy they'd STILL be able to supply the service we need while reducing their carbon emissions significantly.
Load More Replies...Yup. The Corporate lies of Greenwashing are especially horrible. Yes Plastics industry, Monsanto, Nestle, Bitcoin and every fossil fuel corporation out there, I’m talking about you
And you're both dreamers. Most of the things you put in recycling end up in the garbage; I have a single stream recycling dumpster where I live and just to separate the one dumpster would take hours and most of the stuff is unusable because of food. Also, take a look at plastic packaging on everything that is sold and you should know getting rid of straws does nothing and electric cars are charged using electricity produced with fossil fuels or nuclear. Grow up and face reality.
Load More Replies...Look, it's a good idea for us all to recycle, and to make ecologically sound choices, because every good action is still a good action. But the truth is that yes, a few corporations are responsible for 70% and all the other corporations are responsible for another 20+% and individuals, not so much at all, but our efforts still count.
And they would still have their political talking heads trying to make you feel guilty for it
Wall-E is a cute movie. But it is the only thing it should ever be. A cute MOVIE.
My math skills are a little fuzzy, but if everyone else stops doing a thing, wouldn’t the % of the thing of those still doing the thing go up?

About the recycling. If you really dig into this subject you will find that only about 10% of the "recyclables" Actually get recycled. America. They wouldn't make enough money if they actually recycled.
OR stop producing more consumers by endless breeding. Those corporations aren't producing s**t for no one, are they
10% of your recycling is actually recycled, electric cars are not only expensive to buy but if you need batteries replaced can be rediculous plus not environmentally friendly to get the battery components like Lithium. Nothing is set up to make any of this make sense or work. Sigh…I digress. Your statistic only made me feel more sad.
big companies are not looking to get rid of plastic but its ok for poor and middle class to pay out for global warming as long as it isnt their money?
Imagine the waste that would happen if everyone changed to electric cars!!! All the emissions from producing all this cars. And we would need much more electricity.... I think we were saving the Amazon from deforestation when we switched from paper to plastic bags
The point is that the change needs to take the form of coming together to fight against the powerful. Which is what actual professional activists are doing. Help them.
Load More Replies...And don't forget the 1% jetting around the world, vacationing on mega yachts and flying into f*****g space.
Look, I'm ALL for restrictions on corporations as the first solution for climate change, as they won't improve their efficiencies if they aren't forced to. But I'm going to have to call you out on this. If you look into it, it turns out that most of the 100 corporations in this popular fact are energy producers. Gasoline, your city's electrical grid, etc. Renewable energy will help, but if we aren't going to all be dead before the problem is solved, THE CORPORATIONS CANNOT DO IT ALONE.
Duh. Those corporations produce stuff because WE BUY IT. Don't fall for that excuse for not taking action. Make lifestyle changes even if they don't rock the world immediately. Also: boycott, pressure corporations, donate to environmental groups, and more.
If every person on Earth would just stop buying s**t from those 100 corps, they would just perish and we could have it nice.
Those 100 corporations power your electrical grid and fill your car's gas tank, so good luck with that.
Load More Replies...I think it's demand and supply..even if we drive electric car, any component they have to smelt or make which requires to produce smoke would still make the corporation smoke.
I already recycle, don't use any straws (what even for?) and I don't own a car.
But those companies are mostly creating s**t we use, like oil, plastic, products, etc. So we have to stop consuming so much stupid s**t in order for those companies to reduce their emissions. It's a stupid point.
Why would anyone expect recycling and using plastic straws would reduce "emissions" at all, especially emissions by corporations? But he makes a good point: emissions are created chiefly by the products you buy, and anti-pollution measures in the U.S. have zero effect on China. So if you want to reduce pollution, reduce consumption (you don't need a new i-phone every two years or a new car every three) and support trade regulations on China.
Recycled plastic uses up less emissions than newly produced plastic. And those straws you use once and then throw away also create tons of emssions when produced.

But most of the posts in this article have to do with the fact that they make a point which is presented in a funny way but is in itself not that funny. Quite on the contrary, many examples present cases of what could be called “a hard truth” which is, as we know very well, a pretty hard thing to swallow.
In a previous interview, Susan Petang, a certified life coach who runs The Quiet Zone Coaching, told Bored Panda that if the truth is something we don’t agree with, it will be uncomfortable to hear it because it all has to do with our core beliefs and values, and the way we view the world.
“When what we believe to be true about ourselves, situations, other people, or the world in general is at odds with what we observe, the result is cognitive dissonance—when our beliefs and our observations are at odds. This can cause considerable stress,” she explained.

My 12yo wants to live in Iceland when they grow up and I'm encouraging them because I want my kid to have a better life than I've had and getting out of the USA is going to contribute to making that possible.
On the other hand, when we talk about truth, we have to be aware of the fact that it’s really a question of perception. Unless it’s a stated, scientifically-backed up fact, or a law of nature, all truths can be challenged. “So, what I have experienced as 'truth' may not be what you have experienced as 'truth.' For example, one could say that the truth is that water boils at 212 degrees. Or does it? If you use the metric system, water boils at 100 degrees,” Susan said.

Ya, people from other countries on here love to take a poop on America. Why is it so many people want to come here then?

Chinese concentration camps are ALSO outrageous. There are also human rights violations all across the Middle East, Israel is stealing land and homes, there is wholesale destruction of the environment all around the world, there are humanitarian crises on pretty much every continent…….and on and on. The healthcare system can be changed by democratic and concerted effort by the American people, in order to do that it needs to be highlighted and the politicians held to account. The others requires those same politicians to exert pressure on China et al, a regular American citizen can’t contact a foreign official and demand an explanation or indeed change. Instead of undermining legitimate concerns about healthcare how about encouraging positive change AND highlighting the other concerns around the world?
