Don’t agree with the language recognition. I can’t tell the difference between Danish and Swedish either and Chinese and Korean is very similar to people who speak neither as well.

Unfortunate, I just had a conversation with someone regarding TVs and I was mentioning that the TCL is from China and he said so was the LG. I corrected him and said it was from South Korea and he responded, to my chigrin...that's the same as China...arrgh. Don't people know geography and history?

I prefer foreign films with subtitles to the dubbed ones. It’s all part of the full sensory experience of watching films. Subtitles give you total immersion in the storyline, and all the performances as originally intended. Hearing the actual actor’s real voice delivering their lines and conveying the emotions of each scene as they were intended beats the hell out of being subjected to some flat dubbed voice that doesn’t match what’s happening on screen.

I really struggle to read subtitles. I either miss the actual movie coz I focus on the subtitles or miss the dialogue coz I am focussing on the movie. I can’t do both and you need both to get/understand the whole movie. So for this reason I never watch movies with subtitles. My brother keeps recommending I watch Pans labyrinth but the subtitles put me off.

I for one Can't tell a difference from Chinese (Mandarin etc), Korean or Japanese if my life depended on it, sorry :D I bet they think the same about Russian, Polish, Belarusian etc. I bet you can't tell difference either. They did not watch the movie long enough to notice where the movie was from. The reviews are stupid tho, I agree. Nothing wrong with reading subtitles.

Unfortunately, I think it used to be worse... Give it a few more millennia. Hopefully there will be a few less ignorant people then.

First of all it is South Korea, not just Korea. Secondly, I was raised bilingual (Greek/English) so I never had to read subtitles like all other Greek kids did. As an adult, having to read subtitles results in missing some of the action. Not all people like/do/prefer the same things. And it is ok.

As a norwegian, english is ok. I can recognise vietnamese or japanese, not always korean or chinese, philip, thai aso. Subtitles are ok.

Some people don't like watching movies with subtitles. It's difficult for them to focus on two visuals at the same time. I admit the mistake between Chinese and Korean was quite ignorant but it was only one person who said that and you are discrediting everyone who commented.

Reading subtitles removes you from the movie. At that point all you're doing is reading a book with movie noise that doesn't track with the subtitle pacing. Furthermore not knowing every single delineation cultural and lnguisitic present in asia, is something many asian natives can't pull off.

The type of people who are complaining about a subtitled film are also the type of people who couldn't tell the difference between these languages. They are also they type of people who wouldn't click on the menu to find out what the language actually was that they are complaining about. All the info is there for them but you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink!

To be fair.. I watch movies To watch.. Not read... And I can read just fine.. So that blanket a*s statement is stupid. Now the rest of your statement I dont know.. Because I always read or look up where the movie was made prior to buying or watching. But not everyone is going to be able to identify every spoken language. So stop acting as if you are better then everyone because you watch foreign films. No one cares!
