We live in the age of reviews. Both blessed and cursed, they do help us in making our minds up whether to buy something on the internet. There’s also nothing more powerful than leaving a review for an Uber driver, a restaurant on Yelp, or a shop on eBay.

But there’s a whole different world when it comes to reviewing movies on Amazon. Because you see, even the best ones do deserve a solid 1-star rating.

Luckily, the Twitter page "Amazon Movie Reviews" has chronicled all the funniest tiny bits of honesty. Get your popcorn ready, 'cause these will be more entertaining than 2 hours of cinematic boredom.

More info: Twitter

Bored Panda reached out to Joe Grabinski, the man behind the Amazon Movie Reviews Twitter account, which has more than 239.6K followers. Joe said that he started the humorous account purely by accident.

“I simply stumbled across humorous reviews when purchasing DVDs/Blu-rays on Amazon and wanted to store the funny reviews somewhere. I remember thinking, “It would be fun if I got 500 followers someday, people who enjoyed seeing these things.” Little did he know that the page would soon have 1K followers within 24 hours.

However, Joe was honest enough to say that he “had a lot of excitement and disappointment associated with the account: book agent, podcast, YouTube show, etc. None of those things quite panned out, but there have been a lot of fun benefits such as getting to know some interesting and cool people.”

Since the launch of the Amazon Movie Reviews page back in 2014, Joe has noticed that these days, people are leaving “a lot less reviews (for movies) on Amazon than they did when I started.” It makes it harder to find the good ones.

Joe assumes that it’s due to a couple of reasons: “1) The novelty of leaving reviews has worn off for people; 2) People are buying less Blu-rays and DVDs; 3) There are more competing platforms for people to rent/stream movies; and 4) There are more competing forms of entertainment.”

Taken 3 was actually quite tragic, and arguably better than the others. But I give this review 5 stars.

This is most upsetting. First, because people only want to watch films in English (doubtlessly because they are incapable of reading subtitles); second, because they can't even tell that the film is in Korean, not Chinese! Do they even know there is a country called Korea, where people speak Korean? Have people always been so ignorant?

You laugh, but remember when that American news reporter interviewed the KOREAN director of this Korean film in which a Korean cast plays a Korean family living in Korea who are trying to navigate the Korean class system.... and asked him "Why did you chose to film it in Korean?"

Sadly there's too much ignorance, intolerance, and hatred, among the people in the US, but there's also many of us that are kind, intelligent, ppl that are accepting of the diverse cultures, diverse social and family lives, and support equality for everyone in this chaotic world that we all live in. Currently it feels like a pipedream, but those of us who do care, just have to continue the journey one day at a time.

They're missing out. I used to run into this all the time when I worked at a Movie rental store. The company put 'SUBTITLED' in bold bright letters on the film case and people would still bring it back demanding a refund because it wasn't in English.

I think it's safe to assume people who actively don't like subtitles are usually fuckwits with a 3rd grade reading level. Those that don't watch a movie if it's not in English are usually selfish bastards who don't want to understand the concept of different cultures.

I don't usually choose to watch movies with subtitles, mostly because I'm often doing something else, and I don't want to stay focused on the print. But then the other day, I was able to watch a foreign movie that I really wanted to see, because it offered dubbed English. Score!

Many times you can't read the subtitles fast enough & you can't look away from the screen for a second or you might miss an important part!!

And, no one read one of the reviews before buying the movie... I always look at a few reviews. It's not always a determining factor for me, but I like to see some general opinions.

I don't understand the flat out refusal to watch subtitled films. Ok so you think you'll struggle and not be able to enjoy the film? Reading is reading. It gets easier the more you do it. You don't think you can absorb the film and read at the same time? Give it a try and keep on trying. You'll get better at it. There are so many amazing films in so many different languages. Why would you choose to limit yourself to just the ones in your own language when there is such a simple solution?

I'm sorry for all of you native English speakers. You don't know what is to see most of the movies dubbed or with subtitles. Don't be lazy and read is not that hard and you don't miss the plot. Ans the difference between Chinese and Korean languages is HUGE sounds are very different. I invite you all to leave your confort zone.

I once watched "Grave of the Fireflies" with my two friends. One of my friends invited his tart to watch with. At the end she said, "I never read a movie before." We were all speechless.

I don’t like to have to read subtitles. It takes just seconds but it also takes just seconds to miss an important part of a movie. Not that movies are important. They’re made by millionaires, billionaires, isn’t that what the people on bored panda are concerned with? You really shouldn’t worship a bunch of “celebrities” who really don’t care that you exist. It’s sad how young people are today.

i understand your cynicism, but damn dude. there are some amazing, life-changing movies out there; not everything is a cash grab. plenty of movies are made for the art of the thing, rather than to make money. yes, the disney/marvel/lucasfilm conglomerate is bad, james cameron has four unnecessary avatar sequels lined up, etc etc, but then there's guillermo del toro's stuff, the lord of the rings and the hobbit trilogies, older horror movies done with practical effects, all sorts of things that were done because someone wanted to and loved the material.

They should have watched 3-Iron instead (the Korean name is Bin-Jip). Very little dialogue, but a great example of visual storytelling.

KOREAN on Netflix: Kingdom (period piece/zombie horror). Beautiful scenery, well directed, well acted. Smoothly dubbed into American English. 4.5 stars. // The King: Eternal Monarch. (light sci-fi/alternate universe/romance/drama). Great scenery and settings, well acted. Some directing weaknesses, confusing plot line (duh, it's meant to be intricate, but I lose the thread). In Korean with English subtitles. 3.5 stars, but entertaining.

I frequently have the subtitles on when showing an English film in my English classrooms. Some students are distracted by the visual information on the screen. Students who struggle with reading are frustrated that they can't read as quickly as the words scroll, or can't recognize the complicated words.

I don’t like movies with subtitles either. Sometimes I’ll do something else while watching and only depend on what I hear for a brief moment. This is pointless if it’s in a language I don’t speak. I didn’t know it was in Korean. I won’t watch it now since I’m too impatient to read while watching
